Please give me the name of the Arabic restaurant (if it is good)
Bagatelle did our Wedding cake. :kstategrad:Please give me the name of the Arabic restaurant (if it is good)
My wife's family likes N+J's (I think largely because they know the owners). There's also a French bakery place in a really odd location on Harry St (Bagatelle, I think) that makes great manooshi. La Galete is mostly French, but it's owned by a Lebanese family. I'm not sure what's on the menu, but I know they make great fatoush, tabouli, kibbe, hummus, etc in the back at least. The same family owns Pita and Panini (used to be Yuca Bistro) and TJ's, incidentally.
There's at least one more place. I'll ask my wife for the name. (and technically, spangles is a lebanese restaurant...)

Had some good sushi in an area near old town(i think), I think it was in a place called the square, or something. It was in a strip mall square with fountain and crap near. Near a movie theater or something.
Anyway, it was good.

My brother-in-law also insists on Texas Roadhouse (which really isn't that bad) and some tiny place called the Fish Market or something. My older, godfather-esque brother-in-law likes to rent out his own section at the Olive Tree for brunch once a week (this was actually pretty good; plus he looks exactly like Andy Garcia and actually wore a tracksuit to the restaurant, which was outstanding).
My wife and her youngest sister used to work at the Hilton and always drag us to the Sunday seafood buffet (crab legs! crepes!). The oldest sister is the one that owns the restaurant, so she hardly ever eats out and insists that we eat at her place (which is phenomenal; she makes homemade baklava that just melts in your mouth).

The sushi is at Hana and it's not in a goddamn strip mall. It's a square with shops and pretty good bars and restaurants in Old Town. In the same square is a wine and tappas bar that I like a lot called Oeno. Cafe Moderne is also in the same square and I love it. OK_Cat talks crap on Wichita because he hasn't been told where the good smelling elites go. When he gasses up the camino and comes to town he hangs out at Fat Tony's and Wichita Wild games with the rest of his mullet wearing, casino loving, MMA watching, toothless Okie hillbilly buddies.
Also Fish Market isn't my thing but everyone who has eaten there loves it.

have you ever brought up this common misconception with her? Hopefully not! Like, after years of marriage, just shout "HAHA OMG UR LESBIAN! Just kidding, lol." Or bring it up when you see her merry lesbian family, and then laugh about it right into their sinning lesbian whore faces! Then apologize and take them to the donut hole and talk about how you actually like lesbians and lesbianese things, like Black Swan and flannel.
Or you could just get some donuts at the donut hole. They're pretty neat.

Wichita police arrested three people in Old Town on Sunday in an incident that began when a man threw an inflatable penis at an officer's horse.
Officers were patrolling Old Town on horseback at about 1:20 a.m. when they came across a large group of women in their early- to mid-20s who had been celebrating at a bachelorette party, police said.
Also in the group was a 24-year-old man, a brother to one of the women at the party. He was carrying a 5-foot-long inflatable penis, police said.
"While he was joking around with this toy, he launched this large toy toward one of our officers, who was on horseback," police spokesman Gordon Bassham said.
The toy struck the officer's horse, causing the horse to get spooked, he said.
Police arrested the man, of Eastborough, on suspicion of battery of a law enforcement officer, in this case, the horse.
A woman, upset at the arrest, grabbed the arresting officer's arm, police said. She too was arrested.
While the crowd was being dispersed, another woman in the party was arrested when she struck a horse's head, police said. The horse stepped on the foot of that woman, who was treated on the scene, then taken to jail.
Is there any purpose to police horses other than to bait drunk people into assaulting them? eff those things. The tv show McCloud 1970-77 about a small timey Marshall transplanted to NYC had Marshall Sam McCloud riding all crazy ass around NYC.He killed a lot of people iirc and had mad horse riding skills and not once do I remember anyone even getting close enough to assault his horse.I think big city horse cops these days lack mad horse riding skills and as a result can`t keep their horses out of harms way and citizens end up paying the price.
Is there any purpose to police horses other than to bait drunk people into assaulting them? eff those things.

Pro-tip, theres a new chinese buffet on north rock (bro) and K96 in the old Ryans ( :barf:) that has me by the balls. Anyways, finally tried it a month ago, i've gone there at least once a week since. Called Royal Buffet.
And if you're going to say no self-respecting :kstategrad: should eat at a place whose business model uncludes phrasing like "all you can eat" but I can vouch that its worth it
Also, Wichita Fish Co. is a good little hole in the wall with good fish, best (and arguably only) raw oysters in town.
Also, check out De Fazios for an "in the know" little Italian place

Jet BBQ was always fun to go to, I grew up on the north side of K-96 and Woodlawn, and it was so fun to watch people scream all the way down the Thunder Plunge (you could hear them from the front yard of my house). Glad someone said Old Mill Tasty Shop already. The goblin thing by the keeper of the plains is pretty interesting, given they spent money on putting a goblin under the grating by the river. Skate East was cool as a kid (Skate South was not a place to go to). Don't know if it's still there but the Riverside Perk was fun 19th hole to go to after playing a round of disc golf at Oak Park. All the airshows with it used to being the Air Capital were fun to watch, as it was to see the B-1's (when they were there) and KC-135's do there flight path in to McConnell (living near that flight path was just great). Going to Mosley Street Melodrama can be cheesy sometimes, but a lot of fun, especially at Christmas time.

My parents frickin love that melodrama place. (Well, I'm pretty sure it's my mom that really likes it.)

No, denied. Old Town Cabaret is bitb. But both are very different than Looney Bin. Looney Bin is just a matter of who is performing.
 on the thunder plunge. I miss that place.
Jetman is great. Stop by on a Friday evening and have a beer and play some ping pong. Carousel Skate Center was/is awesome. Never went to skate east. Have been to skate south once unfortunately. Riverside Perk is long gone - Maggie that owns Scotch and Soda killed it.
I have to eat lunch in Wichita in a couple Weeks, I have as much time as I want, but only about $15 to spend, where should I go?

Scotch and Sirloin is the easy choice here. They don't have a lunch entree over $15 but don't have a dinner entree under $20.
Oh yeah, its also a front for high dollar prostitution.
Filly. She never did.

What do you like? Tanya's Soup Kitchen is pretty fantastic if you like soup/sandwich. Mike's Wine Dive also has good sandwiches.

I like chocolate raspberry hazelnut cheesecake recipes, Johnny Wichita, that's what I like. :dubious:
I prefer hot sandwiches to cold ones, do those places do hot sandwiches?

Ha. I don't really have a recipe. Let me get it on paper and I'll pm it to you. But you have to promise not to start a competing super elite cheesecake/coffee/wine bar next to mine. Deal?
Most of Tanya's sammy's are cold. Mike's are typical hot sandwiches. Also you could hit The Flying Stove (food truck) for pretty elite sandwiches.
I think the Loony Bin closed.
When I go to Wichita I like to eat at Chester's for dinner. There's a million good places for lunch in that downtown square some dumbfuck characterized as a strip mall with a fountain. Sabor and Todd Brian's come to mind.
I think the Loony Bin closed.
Just closed for the summer for relocation. They are attempting to move to Old Town.

would be great for them, that strip mall on 21st and Woodlawn was awful for them, its a testament to how great they were doing that they were able to sustain being there for so long. Their neighbors were freaking Big Lots.
Agreed. Probably high point when backstage was running full steam and stud boss J. Beasley was manning the door. They would be great downtown.

Backstage was the name of the bar next door that one of the Stevens owned. Had a brah who was a bar tender there. This is probably the only reason that J Beas' did not sit on me for my fat comment. This same friend bar tender also mumped Jenn Bates FWIW.Agreed. Probably high point when backstage was running full steam and stud boss J. Beasley was manning the door. They would be great downtown.

How were you guys getting backstage? Was this when Beasley was selling real estate and trying to play for the Stealth? I ran into him at Flashbacks a lot at that point.
can confirm that sumo's fried rice is fantastic. the hibachi cooking show is exactly like every other hibachi cooking show. kids and old balls love it. if you want good sushi go to kanai, it's out west (119th and maple)

Apparently not air traffic control people.

That plane needs 10k foot runway to take off. It landed at Jabara.
i just don't understand how you land at an airport that has no control tower while you are talking to an air force base and the air force base is all "yeah, we see you, come on home" and then nope whoops we could have killed everyone by landing at this hayseed farm strip. so weird. i mean. it's 2013.

True story. I've lived/worked in Wichita for 14 years and have yet to eat at that place.
18yr old Gooch got food poisoning from Nuway. Was sitting on the crap'r holding a bucket cause it was coming out of both ends. Have never been back since. eff Nuway.
I've eaten at NuWay several times with no issues. Gooch never goes with me though.

Did I already talk about Wimpys? Just west of the OG Nuway location. Delicious sliders, onion rings, fried pickles, etc.I saw that just opened in the old British food place, is it worth a Friday lunch break?

-There is a mexican place on West Street, north of central a block or two on the west side of the street that is amazing, the building used to be a drive in or something, no idea of the name.
-Never saw or heard of those statues, I gotta check that out on my next trip. I have been to the memorial at the park on Piatt St where the plane crashed and killed a bunch of black kids and nearly killed Lynette Woodard btw.

Great list, Rob. When was the first time you went to Shamrock? And when was the most recent visit? Also, if you haven’t tried the Flying Stove you need to. You’ll love it. MIR, Scotch and Sirloin sucks.

Went to about 2 innings of wingnuts vs. railcats yesterday before deciding we had to leave right away to fly in the helicopter that kept buzzing the ballpark.

Uber allows drivers or passengers to refuse to give or take a ride “if your gut tells you there’s something kind of weird about it,” Renecker said.
I hope the uber drivers don't talk bad about ICT like the cabbies do.
I hope the uber drivers don't talk bad about ICT like the cabbies do.When Mrs. Gooch and I went to Chicago this summer for the entire 10 min drive to the airport our cabbie was ranting about how all the numbers on the cul-de-sac's in my neighbor hood were backwards. I was like yeah no they're right and he just kept going and would not shut the eff up.
I hope the uber drivers don't talk bad about ICT like the cabbies do.

Wichita has definitely Wichita'd their downtown revitalization plan. Like, they've done some good things, but spread everything out so much that it doesn't all work together the way it should.

Hey guys, I'm moving to Wichita after I graduate this year, and I have questions. If you like to golf there's plenty of courses to play at. Other than that it's your typical Midwestern drink, movies, softball/kickball flair.
What are the best things to do?
Is Old Town a fun place to be? or should I find some place else to Pak and stuff?
Do I have to support the Shockers?
Never been to the riverfest, how is that?
Good place for dates?
Help me out guys!!!
Good news, Headinjun, I like golf and got some offers for college golf. But, otherwise, your outlook has me bummed out :runaway:

Was in town looking for apartments the past 3 days. Ate at Heroes in Old Town and had a really good burger. That was the only non-chain I ate at while there and it was great. I think I had the sweet pepper bacon burger. I would definitely recommend.

I avoid Kellogg and the flyover at all costs. It's not so much the roads, but the idiots who are driving on them. Driving a semi through town is a real treat too. My favorite is crotch rocket guy who likes to split lanes of traffic at 80 MPH.....

Luke, there is an apartment building in the 1300 block of Franklin Street that is about the coolest place I've ever seen. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.699359,-97.353202,3a,75y,189.45h,79.91t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sOdmAyaQZevJEcidWwbOstw!2e0!6m1!1e1Since we weren't able to go look at apartments after Spring Break, we just decided to go with an apartment complex for the first year. All of the houses/duplexes for rent wouldn't hold the place for us until June 1st. It will be a lot easier to find one of those when we live in Wichita.

$1000 dollars is the cutoff, at least for the first year. We want at least two bedrooms with an open kitchen to the living room. We looked at about 10 different places and the Villas was the best in terms of being new, nice, and a good location in reference to where I'll be working.Haven't given them a deposit yet so go for it.holy crap, I shouldn't have given directional hints :cheers:It's on the east side, close to rock road, but not on rock road.Since we weren't able to go look at apartments after Spring Break, we just decided to go with an apartment complex for the first year. What are your predetermined parameters? It's important to have those, because you don't want to end up with the oscar Weber of apartments.

Theres not a ton of good places for rent downtown unfortunately. Innis Station can be manageable if you can score a spot in the private parking garage. Eaton Place is pretty good, but kinda dumpy in some places. Theres some converted lofts on 430 S Commerce that I friend of mine used to live in that as I recall, she liked pretty well.
Just live somewhere and save up to buy a house somewhere, the rental market in Wichita is way overpriced and houses are cheap.
Well no crap. So you actually looked at that place? If the accommodations are good go for it, I've been living in that neighborhood for 5 years now, I'm full #TeamRiverside. I kinda thought it was a semi-retirement home, is it rentable by average Lukes?Luke, there is an apartment building in the 1300 block of Franklin Street that is about the coolest place I've ever seen. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.699359,-97.353202,3a,75y,189.45h,79.91t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sOdmAyaQZevJEcidWwbOstw!2e0!6m1!1e1Since we weren't able to go look at apartments after Spring Break, we just decided to go with an apartment complex for the first year. All of the houses/duplexes for rent wouldn't hold the place for us until June 1st. It will be a lot easier to find one of those when we live in Wichita.
You two are talking about two different places.
Yeah, that place isn't in Riverside.

This is all my fault. Can we please continue to talk about things in Wichita that don't suck? I'm using this thread to guide my move.

Well I'll tell you something that does suck....having to drive on that K-96/I-235/I-135 interchange area in the morning. So living somewhere that would help you avoid that is a good thing.
6:00 PM Mondays in the grass field south of Koch Arena. Just started up for the season a week ago, we run as long as DST does.I host a pick-up game of Ultimate every Monday, you should check it out!

You'd probably be able to catch a game or two, generally we play for like an hour and a half.6:00 PM Mondays in the grass field south of Koch Arena. Just started up for the season a week ago, we run as long as DST does.I host a pick-up game of Ultimate every Monday, you should check it out!

I live really close to Sims, its my favorite.have you played all of them?
Never played Clapp but have the rest. Im admittedly biased towards my home course. Auburn Hills is the nicest outright, but Sims is less busy and i don't spend all day looking for balls (im a bad golfer)I live really close to Sims, its my favorite.have you played all of them?

Sim is also the easiest, not that that's a bad thing. Good learner course for sure. Played MacDonald the most. Not in the Wichita Public Courses but is still public is WSU's Braeburn, which while isn't the nicest, is still decently nice and a fun course and I've probably had some of my best shots and holes ever at that course.

Which public golf courses are the best? I qualify for the 18-23 season pass, so I will only have to pay $150, which is FREAKING AWESOME.
This link let's you see the packages for public golf course season passes.

I'm hoping I can move my flight back a day as a meeting got canceled, but as it is I fly in really late next Wednesday night, could probably do lunch or happy hour Thursday, Thursday dinnerPAK, and Saturday lunchPAK. Plan things that don't suck accordingly.
I also need to go to go to a few Dillon's stores to get all the sweet tea mios I can find.

Also, you could still take your family to Fantasea in Wichita, though I'm not sure you would want to.
mrs. dave is from wichita, a large gas station chain in Omaha is called Fantasy's, she will drive out of her way to go to a different gas station because of the name. nfm.
I know this topic is a fairly old post but I just had to throw my 2 cents in for whatever they're worth! If you grew up on the south/southeast side of Wichita or in the lgbt community you called it Barnacle Bill's or Barnacle Bill's fantasea. Why? Well, if you called it just fantasea people were liable to confuse it or joke that you were talking about Fantasy... a gay bar at 31st on Hillside, which is still open.

Don't sweat it. I just did some more checking and if I don't get to them myself while I'm there I can order a gang of them from walmart at a decent price and get them shipped free. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mio-Sweet-Tea-Liquid-Water-Enhancer-1.62-oz/15939961

Jackpot. What a clusterfuck the scheduling of this is though. What used to be a great plan now has me needlessly missing a night at home and arriving 15 minutes after Ambassador stops shuttle'n. I'm gonna have to get one of those dirty cabs to take me on a graveyard shift Dillon's run on the way to the hotel.
But this mio news is great. I just put a couple big ziploc bags on my stack of stuff to pack to remind me to load them up.
Y'all need any fish?

I also have a Mio Coupon on my Dillon's card if you want to use it by putting in the number when you check out. (PM me if so.)
1 pound of the jumbo lump crab meat and 4 of those vacuum seal smoked salmon would be great.
So grocery weekly ads usually change on Wednesday...so I wonder if the Mio will still be on sale by the time you get here. Maybe I should just stop by a Dillon's and get some.
Ones like the adoption fest would be fine.
I drove up to Leavenworth last night after the SKC match to stock up on Kroger Fitness Water fitlat (not like mio but a cheaper but better tasting propel) and I brought a cooler to get Blue Bell Ice Cream. That shifty Dillon's only had one flavor of fitness water and Blue Bell is still recalled in Kansas and Missouri :curse:

It is not legal, but the proposed ordinance passed which reduces the fine to $50 for possession of a small amount. It is superseded by state law though, so now there is going to be a big uproar and the AG is going to sue Wichita or something.

Didn't they recently open an independently owned barbecue joint somewhere near old town? I've not been, but I've seen people talking about it on social media. All I know is that it's one of those places with a gimmick bloody mary that comes with brisket or ribs as garnish.
I also still have to make the all-important guayaberas for mios swap.

We would like to let our most loyal customers and fans know...
From our CEO and President Paul Kruse
We’re committed to doing the 100 percent right thing, and the best way to do that is to take all of our products off the market until we are confident that they are all safe. At every step, we have made decisions in the best interest of our customers based on the evidence we had available at the time. We have brought in one of the world’s most respected food safety microbiologists to inspect our plants and systems to help us get to the bottom of this issue.
Through further internal testing, we learned today that Listeria monocytogenes was found in an additional half gallon of ice cream in our Brenham facility. While we initially believed this situation was isolated to one machine in one room, we now know that was wrong. We need to know more to be completely confident that our products are safe for our customers.
As Blue Bell moves forward, we are implementing a procedure called "test and hold" for all products made at all of our manufacturing facilities. This means that all products released will be tested first and held for release to the market only after the tests show they are safe.
In addition to the “test and hold” system, Blue Bell is implementing additional safety procedures and testing including:
-Expanding our already robust system of daily cleaning and sanitizing of equipment
-Expanding our system of swabbing and testing our plant environment by 800 percent to include more surfaces
-Sending samples daily to a leading microbiology laboratory for testing
-Providing additional employee training
At this point, we cannot say with certainty how Listeria was introduced to our facilities. We continue to work with our team of experts to eliminate this problem.
We urge consumers who have purchased Blue Bell products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with any concerns or questions should call 1-866-608-3940 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. CST or go to www.bluebell.com for the most up-to-date information.
We are heartbroken about this situation and apologize to all of our loyal Blue Bell fans and customers. Our entire history has been about making the very best and highest quality ice cream, and we intend to fix this problem. We want enjoying our ice cream to be a source of joy and pleasure, never a cause for concern, so we are committed to getting this right.

How sketchy is it around Wichita State's campus at night? My fiance will be taking some evening/night classes during the first semester and she is scared about it. She thinks I will need to take her to and from the classes.
What's everyone's opinion on FC Wichita? Attended both games this weekend and had a good time.

So random. I was discussing this place via email with some friends yesterday. I have never been there, but my friend said it was really good.
You and Gooch should go, but go before sundown and don't stop at the nearby QT.
Jesus rough ridin' christ
Its a rough part of town after dark. Somebody just got shot at that QT a few months back.
What's your deal?
So rough ridin' what? People get shot everywhere it's America everyone has a gun, so.
Gooch, probably don't get that chicken at 3:30 in the morning.Probably going to give it a go tonight. Will be long gone by the time the sun goes down tho :gocho:

Ok, so here is my best Pete Kansas Ave Mexican joint review impersonation.
Mrs. Gooch and I headed down to waaay south Wichita to try this fabled chicken at Krispy's Chicken. It is quite the drive from my house in NW Wichita or as Trim always referred to it as Hutch :driving:. Pulled in to the parking lot and as you can see they really rolled the red carpet out for us with a spot right in front of the door. The building was much nicer than I expected. They really polished up a turd here.
As we entered the building we were greeted by a blast of very hot chicken grease filled air. I did smell delicious but it was uncomfortably warm in there. As we perused the menu the Asian girl behind the counter seemed a bit uneasy that we did not know exactly what we wanted. We were there for chicken of course we were just trying to decide on sides. She was very friendly and said just yell at me when you are ready to order and proceeded to go to the window to pack an order. We both settled on a two piece white. I'm a breast man what can I say? Sides were a large mashed potatoes & gravy and large fried okra. The girl proceeded to tell us it would be about a five minute wait for chicken. She seemed overly apologetic about this wait. I told her no worries as I knew we would be getting super fresh chicken. The price? $12 and change. As I was being rung up for this an Asian dude behind the counter came up apologized yet again and said it would be a five minute wait. Again I assured him this was not an issue.
As for the fellow clientele in there. They seemed to be strictly "south siders". This is clearly not a "destination" dinning location. This guy with the tear drop tattoo did not seem to be as receptive as I was to the five minute wait. He did however stick it out which lead me to believe that this chicken might be legit.
The mashed potatoes and gravy was a one large container with the gravy on top of the scoop of taters. This concerned me greatly as I thought the gravy to potatoes ratio would be to heavily skewed to the potatoes side. It was not and you could really control the ratio on how you maneuvered your spoon. This would obviously only works in a his and hers situation and you did not mind eating out of the same container as your partner. The gravy was a peppered white gravy. Very tasty. The okra was very bland.
Now for the chicken. It was served smoking ass hot in a paper boat type container. This is a terrible but frugal choice by the management. This does not allow the chicken to breath and caused a soggy crust condition as I had to wait for this to cool before eating. The crust is a light batter not heavily seasoned. In my opinion it needs more spice. It is very similar to Church's. The chicken itself was moist and generally good. You could contribute the moistness more to the fact that this chicken had come directly out of the fryer to the table. You can tell they do not marinate their chicken. They should as this is key for great fried chicken IMO. All in all it is an adequate piece of fried chicken. The sun was getting low in the sky so we quickly finished our meal and got the eff out, you know cause crime and all. :Carl:

Final thoughts? This truly is something in Wichita that does not suck. It's not bad but also nothing special. It is very meh. Much like Wichita itself it is adequate but nothing to go out of your way to experience. So if for some truly unfortunate reason you find yourself in that neck (pun intended) of Wichita give it a try.

"Running a restaurant isn't a sprint. It's a marathon," he said as he was wrapping silverware at the table closest to the kitchen. The small restaurant was partitioned into a modest dining room, giving the majority of the space to the kitchen in the back that was currently putting my sampler together. It was in response to a regular, who was pleased with her food today and commended my choice of meal. She also asked me what caused me to stop in. Obviously, I couldn't reveal that I was collecting restaurant reviews like a 14 year-old Brad collected Pokémon cards, so I mumbled something about noticing the place after having driven by it a few times.
In reality, I've driven past it hundreds of times over the past four years but have finally reached the point where I've run out of other places to go. The fact of the matter is that seafood is still something that Wichita approaches trepidatiously, especially when it's not sushi or a high-end restaurant where we can use the price as a means to assure ourselves that it's fresh. In this respect, Pirate Pete's should be commended for their commitment to the cheap seafood shack; while they're easy to come by in other parts of the country, Pete's and Wichita Seafood Company are really the only two that manage to fill the gap between Newport Grill and Long John Silver's.
If anything, it gives them more motivation to produce a quality product, and they hedge their bets by largely focusing on the seafood and the preparation methods that they know they can do: this means lots of catfish and Pollock, and lots of frying. LOTS of frying. On the one hand, they are able to fry admirably well under varying circumstances - the thin slices of Pollock were plenty crispy in their panko-crusted exterior, while the eye-poppingly large catfish fillet was treated to a simple cornmeal coating before meeting the heat. They were both very well prepared and plenty fresh, though the lack of salt to either made both taste flat.
The freshly-made onion rings were almost as large as the catfish, and even though the onion started to slip out of its crusty exterior, I was still a fan. Coleslaw got the job done. In a respite from everything else, the grilled zucchini, squash, and broccoli made me feel a tiny bit better about eating all of that fried food, though really the vegetables has as much oil as the rest of the meal. It ended up being a stomach achingly large amount of grease. The vegetables were heavily seasoned, which I appreciated.
With a name like Pirate Pete's it's difficult to take the restaurant seriously, but they certainly don't cut corners when it comes to the product. It's mostly fried, and needs to be seasoned a little bit more, but barring that, Pirate Pete's is a very viable option when you're looking for some seafood without having to dress up and make reservations.
See if you can get a picture with pirate Pete

Specialties
Pirate Pete's Seafood is a small restaurant that specializes in Catfish and Pollock. We have Chicken for those who aren't quite a fan of fish. We would love for you to come in and have a seat in our recently remodeled restaurant, which, is now also under new management as of 2014.
History
Established in 2014.
We recently took over Ownership and changed out the Management of this Location. We chose to keep the name and location along with several of the recipes. We had to update some of our menu items; however, Tax is Now Included in all prices on our menu.
It has to be better that the Long John's Silvers I had for lunch yesterday.
1000x better than Long John Silvers.
Have you guys been to Wichita Fish Co. ? Serious question.
Can't believe it took this long. Our office single handily kept him in business probably an additional 4 months.
I'm not sure where this should go.

That's a great deal. It's always been gross to fly SW to Chicago and Dallas when there's AA flights, especially when they're only 4500 Avios. This is correct. This is a zero net affect to the Gooches. SWA sucks ball(s)
Now that girl with the breathalyzer issue will be able to fly SW direct to St. Louis, and those needing to go to Phoenix can take SW instead of even grosser Allegiant.

I think, much like MIR said, that its more a question of which BBQ joints in Wichita aren't elite? Two Brothers? They're probably my least favorite and still pretty good.
Their sides are pretty crummy, some of them at least, but i've always thought their BBQ was on point.I think, much like MIR said, that its more a question of which BBQ joints in Wichita aren't elite? Two Brothers? They're probably my least favorite and still pretty good.

If this did happen it's going to be very easy to figure out who did it by the sale listing. There's nothing listed on Zillow right now close enough to that house though. I can tell you, in that neighborhood, 25th and Amidon area, there are black people there and even more brown people so that letter doesn't make much sense. It took me two minutes to find the exact address.

Wichita businessman Steven says he is subject of federal gambling probe
SUBSCRIBER CONTENT: Feb 14, 2017, 1:26pm CST Updated: Feb 14, 2017, 4:13pm CST

Wichita businessman Brandon Steven told the Wichita Eagle Tuesday that he is the subject of a federal investigation over poker and his attempts to land a casino license. Steven and an investment group attempted and failed last year to obtain a casino license under the name Castle Rock Casino. He also is well-known for his work as a professional poker player.
Wichita businessman Brandon Steven told the Wichita Eagle Tuesday that he is the subject of a federal investigation over poker and his attempts to land a casino license.
The Eagle reported Tuesday that one of its staffers, whom it did not identify, and the newspaper received letters Tuesday from the U.S. Attorney's office informing them that their phone communications with Steven were intercepted last year under federal law.
The letters, required by law, do not implicate the staffer and the newspaper in the probe. They are required as notification that the calls were intercepted by federal investigators.
And then later Tuesday afternoon, the Eagle reported that former state senator Michael O'Donnell's calls also have been intercepted by the feds. The Steven family has financially contributed to O'Donnell's senate campaign in the past.
Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell said Monday he expects action from the U.S. Attorney's office on the Steven probe in the next two weeks, amid reports the city is doing its own internal investigation involving the alleged connection of off-duty police officers to Steven. Longwell would not confirm the investigation or any action taken thus far.
Steven and an investment group attempted and failed last year to obtain a casino license under the name Castle Rock Casino. He also is well-known for his work as a professional poker player.
Steven is a partner in several Wichita car dealerships, the family's chain of Genesis Health Clubs and other businesses.

man if only somebody here knew all the steven scoops
Spill it.
Speculating here, did he try to bribe his way into casino biz? His wife's divorce attorney is finding a discrepancy between his stated net worth and the financials he submitted to obtain the gaming license?
The big shots that flew into town for high stakes card games liked for hookers to be available, may have included an undercover FBI agent, and might have been so profitable that the money got laundered through legitimate businesses? Just spit-ballin' of course

That's just Wichita
Not really a hot take, but the whole Stevens family is mostly a bunch of druggies, drunks, and worthless humans.

Brandon Steven was playing high-stakes poker against Beverly Lange, a Texas woman at the televised World Series of Poker in 2013, when she decided to go all in with $435,000 in chips.
“Would it surprise you if I had a king?” Steven asked her. Steven was telling her that he had kings, which would beat the jacks in her hand. Or he could be bluffing.
“No,” Lange said calmly.
“It wouldn’t surprise you at all,” he said, taken aback by her response. “What do you do in Austin?”
Lange said she ran pom-pom drill team competitions and camps for young girls.
“Really,” Steven said, and then, as if trying to see if she was on his level. “You play a lot of poker?”
Steven started mumbling aloud the possible hands she could have. She couldn’t have an ace, could she?
“I’m really not that good of a poker player,” Lange said. “Don’t try to figure out, you know, what I should’ve done, because what you would expect me to do is probably not something I would do. Does that help you?”
Steven laughed: either she had made a mistake, or Steven was being played. “It helps me; it helps me. I know I have the worst hand, and I’m probably still going to call,” Steven said.
“If you have the worst hand, I definitely want you to call,” Lange said.
But seconds later, Steven folded with the kings that would’ve won. “A dagger to the heart of Brandon Steven,” the TV commentator said. Although Steven lost, the hand showed how savvy he had become at high-stakes poker.
I know the good Stevens family. You wouldn't believe where they raised their family. They are v good business men & women that's the truth.

oh so no lazy river, huh? ouch.
I saved a lot of lives there guys, there was a lifeguard station at the kiddie area where unsuspecting kiddos would end up in 4 ft of water and just look up at you with panic in their eyes, I must have hauled a thousand of them out of that 6x6 area, never had to make a save anywhere else in the park other than a few little snapper- heads that would venture too deep down the side of the wave pool.
Im not familiar with FantaSea. . .but I doubt it held a candle to Barnacle Bills.

Scotch and Sirloin, if you want to teach your kids about the pros and cons of high dollar hookers.Pretty sure the hookers are gone now. Sonny is out and the place is being run by new management. They remodeled the crap out of it and are pushing a more business by day Family by night atmosphere. It actually looks pretty nice in there now. I bet the new manager went thru the place with a black light and was :sdeek:

Well that's not anywhere near the arena.
Is it best/easiest to park on the street, or are their lots?
street parking and walking is 100% fine if you have functioning legs

That's definitely not a problem, but I know that its still supposed to be pretty cold and _FANw is not a huge fan of hanging out in the cold too long.
Ideally I want to park somewhere close to where we'll eat and the arena. It looks like that area north of the arena will be the best spot for that I have no issue paying 10-15 to park.

There is a big free parking lot (Coleman Parking Lot/Rotary Plaza) at 2nd & St. Francis just north of the Arena. It's a short walk, close to Old Town, Bite me BBQ is right there.

A baller ass place to eat. Rusty is right about B&C it's very good and close enough to walk to IBA, they have weird hours though. I'd also recommend Playa Azul if you're down with Mexican, it's on Washington and Douglas.
Also, B&C has renovated and is adding a patio and full bar.

We ended up hitting River City. It was quite good.
Also, we were impressed with the area around the arena. Very nice and we plan to come back and hang out there some more when its warmer out.

I'm a big cop defender but they are very much in the wrong here. There has been zero scrutiny of the PD here. It is absurd. The cop that shot is getting a free pass.
Something wrong with that?
Nope, other than it coming about 4 years too late.
I'm a big cop defender but they are very much in the wrong here.Reports are now coming out that the swatter guy was still on the phone with 911 even after the guy had already been shot and killed. This is a giant clusterfuck that is going to city a crap ton of money to make go away.

Probably a murder charge for the swatter guy, too, right?
In a better world than the one we live in, the cop would be held accountable, but I’ve given up on thinking that ever might happen.
The problem is the number of people who jump to blame anyone other than the guy who did the shooting. It was the guys fault for lowering his hands. It was the guy making a prank phone call's (which, is what this was, the police are hiding behind "we got fooled by a prank phone call so we killed a guy") fault.

I'm surprised we made it through another Denise Neil article without mention of the Doo-dah diner. Broken down, you basically told everyone we have famous people who visit, we started a lot of chain restaurants, and BTK was from here. Top-notch work, Denise. Are you sure you're not from Missouri?

We pronounce a few proper nouns differently than you do: It will sound stupid to you but it’s completely normal to us. Our Arkansas River, which runs through downtown, is pronounced ARE-Kansas. And our Greenwich road is pronounced GREENwitch. That’s just the way it is, and you’ll have to deal while you’re here.
I have never heard anyone put emphasis on the first syllable. It's always been "are-KAN-sas".
