Forward Curtis Kelly remains a member of Kansas State's basketball program while the school investigates a potential violation of department policy.
School officials could not confirm the potential violation, citing student privacy issues.
“Curtis is still a member of our basketball program,” associate athletic director Casey Scott said Tuesday.
Kelly's status for the rest of his senior season remains uncertain, however. The Topeka Capital-Journal has learned the potential violation could result in Kelly's permanent suspension from the team and loss of financial aid, though Kelly has filed an appeal to retain his playing status.
The situation is not believed to involve NCAA rules violations, and no definitive time frame exists for the appeals process. Kelly's availability during the appeal will be determined internally.
K-State's student-athlete handbook provides an outline of the appeals process. According to the handbook's protocol, athletic director John Currie would provide an initial ruling, which then could be appealed to K-State's General Scholarship and Financial Aid Committee.
Attempts to reach Currie and K-State coach Frank Martin were unsuccessful.
I think this is going to work out fine. Yeah, CK may technically be permanently suspended from the team and have lost his scholarship, but he's appealed! Who decides appeals? Currie! So, all Currie's got to do is come up with some reason to grant CK's appeal and we're home free. I hope he's heard all you Q@ fans who want him to do the right thing.

Nothing says utter failure like an inhouse/athletic department sanctioned promo campaign, in this case, "History Awaits" . . . only to see the team essentially fall flat on its face. For gods sake there was even a custom made "History Awaits" countdown clock in the ku football offices.
You worked at an athletic department that had like 17 guys arrested every week and most of them kept right on playing. You helped hire a coach that is a walking NCAA rules violation (BTW if this thing blows up on Frank you should make a run at Pearl). The football coach at the same school had an offseason, off the field issue scoring system and championship in his name that ran at a well known college football blog.

the funny thing is that gomaw did. the first three or four pages pretty clearly spelled out what was going on as far as i'm concerned and it did so hours before anyone else could write about it. not that they didn't have the same or even better info, but they just can't randomly throw up an emoticon in their newspaper or say "hey, we're pretty sure that......".
this place can because no one here is a journalist and no one pretends to be and there is no business being run. also, bsac's source was gold. also, no way anyone could've predicted that the appeal would've worked. all in all, pretty amazing considering. go cats.

At the conclusion of the meeting, unless the Director of Athletics determines otherwise, the period of suspension will begin immediately.
