I've been wondering that myself.  I feel very lost.  My productivity in things that matter could spike a lot this year.

Great thread.  This is now the official Fort/Treehouse/Hideout/Clubhouse thread.

1) One of my favorite forts ever was discovered by sdbro and myself when we were roughly 6 and 8 years old.  It was out in the woods near our house.  It was an actual little house with a glass window, door on a hinge with a bolt to lock it.  It was about 15 feet by 5 feet.  The floor was dirt and when we were digging up the floor for no reason we discovered and old metal tool box with some old rusty tools, some books that were basically unreadable and moldy and some other crap.  The kid who had it before us was estimated to have lived in the 1600s and was friends with indians and crap and probably ran away from home to live on his own.  He had all sorts of pet animals that helped him hunt and did various jobs for him.

I would go out in the woods and pretend that I was an Indian camping out (vision quest).  But I never found a house with cool buried treasure.

2)  Fort 2 was a tree house of sorts.  sd, sdbro and littler sdbro found a pile of wooden fence posts of various lengths.  We took them up into a big wide tree and began to hammer them down in between the Vs of the widest branches wedging them in there tight.  Then, we put nails through them so they wouldn't fall when we sat on them.  Eventaully we had about 40 wooden fence posts making walls up the largest Vs of the branches.  We then began to construct the floor out of ply wood we found in our shed.  The floor was of poor quality so it was primarily for looks only.  We would sit quietly waiting for a deer, bear or outlaw to pass by so we could drop the rocks we had stockpiled up top onto their heads....none ever passed or were seen.

My fort #1: A tree fort at my neighbors house.  Few wood planks and a rope to swing on.  Couldn't find any other ropes to use, so we used his parent's tow rope.  One day a friend went down the tow rope too fast and the hook ripped his sack.  Lesson for all the goEMAWers: do not use tow ropes for any future forts

My fort was generally inside in the family room. ETP and ETPbro would take all of the kitchen table chairs and form a circle. We would then take our bedsheets and form a ceiling with them. We'd play in it for about 5 minutes, then leave it to ETPmom to pick up.

we would usually grab all the sofa cushions. Use them as walls and use blankets over top. Usually would integrate a table or two as well.

The neighbor kid had a sweet fort in his back yard.  But, he was rough ridin' around with building a fire one day and set the entire three-acre back yard a blaze.

Fire department came and the kid told them that a "black man wearing a black cape and black hood set the fire."  Fort was torn down.  True story.

I didn't have a fort. Just a secluded dirt circle in the woods with some chairs and we put up some rock "walls" to make it kind of look like a fort...? Then they tore down the woods for an upper-scale neighborhood.

We had a treehouse at a creek behind the (residential) daycare I went to after school.  The treehouse kind of sucked, the real prize was the creek.  Tons of honeysuckles and wild onion shoot things.  We feasted on that stuff like it was going out of style.  Also we started collecting beer bottle caps.  Pretty apparent somebody had a bizarre obsession with Red Dog.

Vege cream cheese is worse than cream cheese, tomatos, and capers?  Not really seeing the difference hear.  Yeah, the mass produced, flavored cream cheeses suck but the locally produced stuff is delicious.  Stop being a bagel snob.  (Guess we could let the Jews be bagel snobs, they earned it.)

I lived on 20 acres with a creek & trees running down one side around the towanda/augusta area.   My buddies and I swiped some wood from my dad's shed & built a couple of bridges going over the creek.  We then cleared about 5 trails running through the trees making booby traps along the way to catch crap like, squirrels, deer, rabbits, friends little brothers, etc.   There was one tree that was good for climbing and we started to build a tree house in it, but it got struck by lightning and split the trunk in half.   After that, it was still easy to climb, but the main trunks were too far apart to build anything higher than 3 feet off the ground.  Later when we were in high school, we built bunkers and turned it into a kick ass paint ball field - bought cheep wal-mart guns & invited people we didn't like over so we could hide in all of our secret hiding places we had built and mercifully destroy all opposition.  After a full day of paintball, we would swipe beer from our dads, walk down to the local turnpike bridge late at night, drink beer & talk about how awesome sex would be when we got girlfriends that put out & eat cinnamon bagels with strawberry cream cheese.

I do that fairly often now.  Got 200 acres to explore.  Found an old well from likely sometime pre-1880's and the remains of some building from the same era.  All that's left is a circular pit about 12' across.  Good place to find morels and deer sheds too.
