New to the board, but I have been looking around and I've seen a few people asking about the Brown brothers.
I have the privilege of watching practice everyday. Both play scout team because they are sitting out this year, so it's kinda tough to get a definitive report but this is what I got:
Arthur:
- easily the fastest scout team player on the field
- aside from Hrebec, he is the best form tackling LB
- flies to the ball and like to look for the big hit when he gets an opening
- not overly physical when taking on blocks, but he has the quickness to avoid and get underneath most lineman
- decent form when filling gaps and stuffing the hole, he is very flexible and uses his hips well for leverage
- its tough to tell for sure whether or not he will live up to the hype, he has the tools but from what I have heard his problem at Miami was reading blocks and reading run/pass which is tough to simulate for a scout team guy
Bryce:
- VERY EXCITING PLAYER
- when he first came in, he ran hard day in and day out, as the year went on he proceeded to try less and less at practice, not a great sign about his work ethic but I'm optimistic that competing for playing time will rekindle that flame
- has a similar stride to DT, but faster
- rare blend of power and speed, when he is playing hard he can run around you or right over you
- decent hands, really excels in space and cannot be covered by a linebacker, safeties will have a hard time
- like i said earlier, closely resembles DT in his running style and vision, great explosion thru the hole, finds a seam and hits it as hard as he can
Hope this helps

Thanks hawksrul05. Great report. Go hawks.

Nice.

AIN'T NO PUNCTUATION!
-
welcome to the board, thanks for posting
-
none of that report makes me feel like they'll be worth a crap.
thanks for ruining cat football, mobdeep.
-
I now almost expect Arthur Brown to be the next Smoke Patterson. Thanks for the report.
-
can one of the cat football fans from the board fill me in on who the brown bros are? new recruits? juco? transfer? high school? are they brothers? cousins?
when do they become eligible and when are they going to be in manhappyness?

I heard that they are two dudes who where bandannas to practice and just kick the crap out of anybody who looks at them the wrong way. They aren't really brothers, but they cut their hands one day and put them together to be blood bros for life. I'm not sure what positions they play; they may just be enforcers for practice.
-

Source?
This is some solid insidery info. Dude seems legit!
-
we should call them the brown enforcers. i'm going to make a sign if i go to a football game next season.
everyone try to remember the sign, it will say "brown enforcers" on it. look for it at one of the games and say hello if you see the sign. i will be holding it.
-
I thought Bryce couldn't practice last fall because he didn't get a release. Am I wrong?

yeah, you're wrong

I now almost always fully expected Arthur Brown to be the next Smoke Patterson.

COACH 'EM UP, BILL!

The taking on blocks part was most concerning to me. This is very important with our shitty DL.
-
I realize that being the best form tackler on our defense is like being the smartest kid with down's syndrome. Hopefully bringing in JL will help with that.
-
:excited:
-
My question is how is Arthur at getting blocked. In the Chris Cosh defensive scheme, LB's are used to occupy blockers so that our safeties can tackle the opposing running backs 10-20 yards downfield. Very important for a LB to be able to occupy those blockers.

Hrebec is a pretty damned good form tackler. He blows because he is too slow to be in position and makes most of his tackles after a 5-6 yard gain.
He has the brain of a good linebacker stuck in a frail ginger body.
-
I wouldn't consider him frail... just a ginger. But thats bad enough.
Alex is a great guy and the head of the team's chapel group... but nice gingers do not win games.
If we want to win, we need to revert to hoodrat's and gangbanger's

It's not necessarily a bad thing.
-
Are you suggesting that Ray Lewis is the answer to our problems?

you know as well as i do thats its just 5 or 6 players that go over to bills house and do push ups while sharon sits on their backs and bill reads the playbook
-
Are you suggesting that Ray Lewis is the answer to our problems?
No, I'm saying that the team having a chapel group isn't really a problem.
-
Sure, if our chapel group is willing to stab a man to death in Buckhead like Ray, I'm cool with them praying at ginger's apartment.
PS, mob, how does Tate look?

This is all good stuff but I'd like to know if they have the potential to rape a white chick, steal a car, punch a cop or player on the team, and or speed while having an ounce of weed in their car? tia

As much as you all will probably tear me up for saying this, Tate actually impresses me.
Not to say that he is anywhere near a D1 starter, but he definitely exceeded my expectations.
He is too small and slow to probably ever start, but he works hard, probably the hardest working freshman on scout teams. He isn't afraid of contact and he covers well on special teams.
Again, I don't think that he is deserving of a football scholarship, but he will easily be a special teams contributor and could possibly see some snaps on defense in the future.
@Purplewood- Arthur seems like a genuine guy and I doubt he will ever have behavioral issues, but I wouldn't put it past Bryce.
-
MobDeep is a great new addition to the goEMAW family

Ha, for some reason this cracked me up.

Yep.

Yep.
Except for he's an undercover squawk according to his email addy.
:nono:
-
Hey, MobDeep, did the staff ever work on some variation of the Tecmo Bowl offense last season in practice, or were we all just completely bamboozled?
-
Cut me some slack, that's my old email address that I use to register for websites... (I am originally from Iowa where i was brought up a Hawkeye.)
@Nuts- This is my first year at my current position, so I couldn't tell you

Color me skeptical, fellas.

If you can't tell us if the team ever worked on the Tecmo Bowl offense in practice, then how can you tell us that Bryce worked hard when he first came in and his work ethic has gotten worse? It's starting to smell like squawk in here. . .

Did you punt for the hawkeyes in the late 80's and are now the new special teams coach?
-
@Nuts- are you considering last year as in the 2010-11 football season, or as the 2009-2010 football season?
@Wetwillie- I was a redshirt for Iowa, and in my title I am the new special teams coach although at practice all I do is run stairs, look for people trying to watch our practice, and tell them to GTFO

To keep this quality information flowing I suggest someone other than this Mob fellow sacrifice their testicles.
I would offer my testicles up, but my wife neutered me long ago, now one nut is the size of a mustard seed and the other is a little bitty thing.

AB isn't a man of taste and distinction dude or can't you read. It's Bryce who might grab your schlong. Jesus, noob...

The Brown Brothers will both be remembered in the past, in the future, as the best we've ever had at their positions.
This is nearly an absolute.

Bryce could be, but I doubt Arthur wins a Butkus. I love your optimism though PW. I really do.

I'd also argue having a crappy defensive line can make any LB, particitulary a MLB, job much more difficult.

If they can break your curse. Chris has yet to do that. Tyrik has yet to do that, Lamark has yet to do that. Just refrain yourself from posting comments about the browns, harper, tuggle and kstate in general.
