Then Smellinger should have said that.  Still didn't explain why it would be any more difficult to do so in a church.

Dear lord. It says in the article that because of his upbringing and lifetime experiences, he was able to tell that the gunshots weren't coming into the church and weren't coming closer to the church. So while others were freaking out about gunshots, he was able to stay calm because he knew the bullets weren't going to be coming his way. It states this in the article.

Well I can tell the difference between a good lead in a feature article and a bad lead in a feature article.
