Brian Newell seems like an OK dude (I've never met him). But there's a line between being an OK dude and a dude who will let his team be held to fewer than 50 points so that San Diego State fans can get free curly fries at a local restaurant, and that's not a line Newell is willing to cross. So when the Occidental coach realized the promotion was in place Friday, he quickly inserted his two leading scorers back into a blowout at SDSU. The score was 91-45 with 2:07 remaining. Final score: 93-50. No curly fries for you! "You have to look for little things," Newell said. "I didn't know that curly fries were at stake until they told me. That was a moral victory."

There has to be some sort of "Mendoza line" for slth.
During his last year at K-State, Wooldridge was 5-10 in games decided by 10 points or less and 5-9 in games decided by five points or less. Win three or four of those, and the Wildcats might not have Bob Huggins on the bench.

Games decided by 10 points or less: 5-10
Games decided by five points or less: 5-9
Games decided by one basket: 1-7
Big 12 games decided by 10 points or less: 3-8

Classic example of this is comparing how Huggs used Martin with Hoskins to make a play to beat UT in 07 compared to how Wooly tried to use Martin (essentually on his own) in 06 to make a play against Baylor.

After the Duke game I saw the coach from Virginia Tech was in his 8th year. He has led his teams to 4 NIT trips and 1 NCAA. With the win over Duke on Saturday they might get into the NCAA again, and if they do they will have in his 8 years:
50% NIT
25% NCAA
25% Nothing
Virginia Tech is a football school but they have a little more basketball tradition than us.
After year five Doc will be at 60% NIT and 40% Nothing. Because of what and when he inherited it and because Tom Osborne and I think he can coach, he gets three more years. (I know that pains you to read but he ain't goin' nowhere soon)
After that full 8 years I would expect at a minimum 25% NCAA, 50% NIT and 25% Nothing. Which means (assuming NIT this year) he needs two NCAA births in the next three years. I still think he is going to get there.

Nope. Have never seen a functioning CU board. I like them already.
I think the big 12 is going to be exposed in the ncaa tourney this year. It's top teams are not that good. There are some lesser teams that could knock some folks off, but I don't see a big 12 team in the final four. In fact, I'm pretty sure CU will be the only representative of the big 12 in the elite 8.
