Again, Coffman with the 5th best passing efficiency in K-State history. Plus Thomas one of the best backs in K-State history. Amazing offense combined with pathetic defense.

Only if I can get a meager percentage of what the "elite" mods make around here. I've heard of your fancy suits, amazing vehicles, and sizable houses. Its no secret among the masses around here, and even a humble mod like myself.

@dennisdoddcbs: Just looked it up. This is destined to be the second highest scoring season in history (28.08 pts per game per team going into bowls)
FWIW.

this highflying kstate offense lead by ccq was partly responsible for this. go cats.

The offensive numbers are surprising regardless. Nobody (nobody) would've ever predicted Coffman would end up with a passing efficiency of 143.07.

Let's make it happen for _fan. Tax havens, Mods? ==--MODS--==??!?!?!

Post the full rankings for the more unbelievable stats. I want to see the quarterbacks/teams that were worse than Queso, Affliction, etc.

I inserted charts of the stats I used into the blog. Each chart has 4 sections; rushing, passing, total yards, and points. Each section is sorted by yards or points per play. The chart shows the Top 25 (or in case of defense the Bottom 25) seasons sorted per play for each section. Hope that explanation makes sense.

Serious question for _FAN and any similarly situated inviduals (_FAN has some good connections to the staff).
Is it possible that LHC Bill Snyder is unaware of just HOW bad the defense is? Seriously, is he one of those guys who refuses to look at "the numbers" in that way? Just grasping for anything at all here that might help explain something that seems so amazingly appalling....

No, he knows its bad. Not sure he has these numbers, but he has similar numbers. The guy looks at everything. Plus, he has mentioned it over and over in press conferences and after games. He pretty much said the defense didn't show any improvement from the season to the bowl game as well.
However, he may have a big enough ego to believe he can coach up the staff/players to get them over the corner. Or coach up a few recruits to get there. I hope not and I hope he sees that there needs to be coaching changes, but his track record is of being loyal and thinking that somehow changes can come from within from year to year. This failed him his last two years before he retired, I hope it doesn't fail him now. There is good in that there is already an opening on the staff, so there is at least one spot to be filled.

In your opinion, based on the folks you interact with, is there a forum or method in which you could envision a "message" reaching him on that topic that would be effective? Personally, I think it's Currie. I think Currie gets this. At least I think that Currie WILL get this, and understand what is at stake.....whether Bill responds is another matter I suppose.

Our defense was so bad that I could not appreciate how good our offense was.

No truer words have ever been posted in the entire history of all Internet BBSes.

not to burst anyone's "bill's the smartest offensive person ever" bubble, but the years 2007 and 2008 were in the top ten offensive stats alot. (same for defensive stats). granted, bill didn't have a pro-qb, but that's bill's fault. he also had, this year, a pro RB and a WR corp that is probably the most athletic he's ever had.
-
_FAN, any chance of adjusting those stats for tempo?

That's why I sorted on a per play basis for each category. You can look at the other numbers around to compare, but per play seemed the most logical to compare year to year.
Also, I think Prince's offense was solid, but not relying on the run put more pressure on the defense than Snyder's scheme did.
And frankly, I really don't care about Prince vs Snyder comparisons. That's a goemawtard talking point that has little bearing on the future, and is just a fun gripe about Snyder talking point. I get it, but it's not for me.
-
so you're just randomly putting up stats with no "point" to them? my point is that bill isn't some goddamned offensive genius. those stats point that out.

OH I see you did. My bad eyes didn't see your last second to last column.
This years offense was pretty remarkably efficient. The improvement from last year to this year is staggering. These numbers also highlight the lost year that was 2002. That team was amazing, but underachieved.
-

I think these stats DO point out that Bill is an offensive genius. The relevant stat (IMHO) is the PPP (Points Per Play, which is another way to calculate offensive efficiency).

so Ron is a genius as well?

His offense was good. Prince's 07/08 offenses were good. I think Snyder's were better because he made an effort to manage TOP in our favor, nearly a 3 min per game swing compared to 07/08. But all three seasons had good enough offense to win games, but bad defenses turned the teams into mediocre .500-ish teams.

He was a better offensive mind than people gave him credit for.

Prince's offense had great aspects. But it relied too much on Freeman and his zone running scheme was too easy to stop, especially in the redzone. When your defense is that bad, you've got to find a way to compensate to stay in games and he never did that.
-
Prince was a good offensive coach, he just was a terrible game manager and had terrible defenses. Snyder is a great offensive coach and a very good game manager. They had similarly horrible defenses (OB's even worse) but their game management is why OB can take a historically bad D and still win seven games, and Prince was a failure. Of course, we know OB's weaknesses.

OB has been a colossal failure since 2003.

More like infuriatingly mediocre. Which is almost worse, bbs-wise.

Confirms my suspicions that QB Rating is a stat with very little worth.

Prince won 7 games once in 3 years. Snyder has won 7 games once in 4 years.
But yeah, one of those is a collossal failure and one is not.
-
Prince's offenses put up big numbers with Freems at the helm. This year's offense had CCQ/Klein at the helm with Brod and Tremaine being injured for much of the season. eff, we had that kid from MHK getting quite a few snaps at WR the last 5 or 6 games, it's not like our WR corps was that stacked once Brod and Tremaine were removed.
-
Only a tremendous Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) (zacker) would even attempt to downplay OB's offensive prowess. You give him a quality DC and some recruiters and you have a DoD type of team. Left to his own devices and you have a 7 win type of team. Also, we played ball control offense like crazy this year and still scored 28 per. Explain that, catjackasser.

if you gave ron the same things you want to give snyder, they'd get the same results.
-
You mean give Ron a future NFL HC to coach his defense and the future Vandy HC to coach his offense?

but he was saddled by Snyder's crappy recruits, and still made a bowl game.
-
Yeah, once Prince got rid of Snyder's retards and got the entire NEO team signed, it was smooth sailing.
-
similar to snyder's failings, prince's failings only point to the need/requirement for better assistants.

Yep. Prince was screwed when the assistant exodus of 2007 took place.
