if there was one between all of the kstate beat writers who would win? i honestly do not know. help me out here. thx.
-
seriously though. manbeck has reach but he is lanky at best and i just don't see the killer instinct. can d scott be considered a beat writer? maybe him. meek? i'm absolutely at a loss.
-
they would all lose. wimps the evil lot of them
-
Kellis. Manbeck and meek couldn't beat themselves out of a wet paper sack

man. i just don't think so. kellis "real age" has to be approaching 50. he just does not have the stamina imo. throw a punch or two and then he's done. he's just done.

Great thread. First, let's start with a list of beat writers:
Austin Meek (Cap-J), Kellis Robinett (Star/Eagle), D Scott Fritchen (GPC), Tim Fitzgerald (GPC), Rob Cassidy (GPC), Cole Manbeck (The Mercury), Josh Kinder (The Mercury), Arne Green (Salina Journal), Ashley Dunkak (Collegian).
Heavy weights: D. Scott, Fitz, Cassidy, Kinder.
Middle weights: Meek, Kellis, Manbeck, Green, Dunkak.
Cassidy is a huge fan of professional wrestling and has a Bam Bam Bigelow type of build. If weapons are at his disposal, I could see him "playing with fire" and doing some serious damage. He would throw acid in your eyes and then kick you in the groin. Probably great with a folding chair. I think he'd win against anyone on the list.
Fitzgerald is a monster but probably out of shape. Not a real threat despite having more size than anyone on the beat.
D. Scott is the nicest person in the world, but if you disrespect him, he will get pissed and rip your face off. He's like the Undertaker. I would say he is a serious contender.
Kinder has dropped a ton of weight and I know for a fact that he has been working out and eating right. He would easily stand toe to toe with Cassidy, but I don't think he'd be ready for Cassidy going Mr. Socko (Mankind) on him before putting him in a figure four leg lock.
Meek is good at everything. Everything. He is a great writer, he would excel at radio if he tried, he is a phenomenal singer and plays a mean acoustic guitar. Also had a 3.95 GPA in college. His best talent is his ability to hide his talents. He reveals nothing about himself. I would not be the least bit surprised if he was an all-state wrestler in high school and if he takes kick boxing lessons in his free time. A serious, serious threat.
Kellis isn’t scaring anybody. His only weapon is Jayhawk cookies, and I didn’t see too many on the baking sheet last time I looked.
Manbeck has the same build as Danny Tanner on Full House. Someone like Austin (Joey Gladstone) would put him in a headlock and he’d be done.
Green has probably covered a lot of high school wrestling, so I’m sure he’s got some moves he’d be willing to try. But he’s not quick enough and is not a threat to anyone on this list, not even to …
Dunkak, who would pulverize Manbeck*, my Twitter rival, in a cage match!

Manbeck. Just on intensity.

jrake,
if you were to put yourself in the mix, where would you stand? also really starting to lean towards meek based on what you said and a few things that are in my head about him. man oh man though, still up for grabs huh? i get what you are saying about cassidy but i just think meek would be in it for the long hall and would wear. him. out.

Surface is key. I'm great on ice and snow.
Also, if someone hits me, they better hope I get knocked out with that first punch. :fatty:

It would be easy to distract Manbeck. Just point at a tape of some official blowing his whistle during a KU game.
-
Fitz has kung-fu grip. Slow and lumbering as he is, he get his hands on anyone to choke em, its light out. Kinda like E. Honda from Street Fighter or that fat guy from Blood Sport.
-
Holy crap, amazing thread (and great analysis by Rake).
-
I think Meek and D. Scott are the favorites with Dunkak being the dark horse.

Only thing that worries me about Dunkak is her inexperience. I could see her trying to interview her opponent before the fight, and next thing you know—whack!—Cassidy knocks her upside the head with a folding chair and then throws her through a table.
I would really enjoy a tag team match of Cassidy/D. Scott vs. Manbeck/Kinder. Of course, it might be difficult to schedule because the Mercury still has an afternoon press deadline.
Last thing: Upon further thought, I overrated Meek in my original analysis. But I do think he would be great in a Royal Rumble, since he's friends with everybody. I can tell you that if getting sent over the rope meant you're off the beat, everybody in that ring would want to keep Kellis until the end.

Can we include photographers?

I'm also from NY. On a scale of 1-to-10, Rob is only about a 6.
Strikes me as more of an Oklahoman. :D

His family owns a NY deli right by Citi Field. Hard to get more NY than that imo.

He doesn't speak like a New Yorker. He's lucky to be above a 5.

How do you speak? Give examples using phonetic spellings and NY'y phrases.

don't know any of these losers but they all suck at covering k-state. lets' put them all into a big vat of strong battery acid or another strong type and just start over because they all suck at covering k-state.
sorry bros, tweets don't count.
