Title: So since we know the NCAA is all about fainess
Post by: KSUBrian on December 22, 2010, 09:13:17 AM
Josh Selby got a nine game suspension for taking around $5,000 in improper benefits.  That works out to approx $550 per game.  Since Jake is getting 3 games so he must have gotten something worth $1,650.  We have heard the store employee was a woman.  So either Jake went on one hell of a shopping spree or the NCAA now has a way to value "friends with benefits".

I would love if the NCAA actually assigned a value to poon.

Also, to make this comparo, wouldn't KSU have to pay for the clothes now that Jake was caught?

Jake would have to pay for them. The university could cover the cost and then take a reimbursement from Pullen's scholarship, but in the end, that's still Pullen paying for the clothes.

Couldn't this easily be avoided by having the same chick sleep with random non-athlete guys?  Than it's not an impermissible benefit, it's just a slut.

That is an outstanding question dmartin.

But sadly in order for this situation to NOT be an "improper benefit" the chick in question would not only have to sleep with the entire K-State campus, but she and the store would have to offer the exact same "discounts" to the entire campus as well.  (well, mainly just the part about the "discounts")

By NCAA rule, any benefit that is given to a student athlete is considered an improper benefit if it is provided by a person/entity representing K-State's athletic interests only to a student athlete.   For it not to be considered an improper benefit the same thing would have to be provided to all K-State students.

the key term is provided.  I thought it was more like "available".  She wouldn't have to sleep with everyone, just be willing to.  She would literally, "be taking it for the team"

and i was only discussing the poon.

i think 9 games = over 1k, 3 games = under 1 k.

not positive, but i think those are the guidelines for improps suspensions.
