Title: Arthur Brown
Post by: EMAWmeister on December 15, 2010, 02:29:11 PM
"I believe the best linebacker in the Big 12 is on our scout team right now." ~ K-State senior Zach Kendall on Arthur Brown (Per DScott)

:users:  (but secretly :woot: to myself)

Sam Lamur was impressive for the scout team last year. Poty if I remember right

Phew! I was worried since Cosh was staying and all, but it sounds like we'll be alright!

S Lamur wasn't one of the top high school players in the country.  Hearing this news about Arthur certainly carries more weight and believability.

Tards make everyone out to be superman in the off season.  Gotta assume this is what is happening until we actually see it.

Poor bastards spend months getting wound up over our players, months denying what their actual abilities are, months justifying why we have the players we do, then start all over again.  Vicious cycle.

Consider the source.  D Scott.

I mean, this gullible doofus didn't have the professional judgement to not run a Zach Kendall player quote this summer stating our offense being as unstoppable as "techmo bowl" (sic).  It's amazing how much credence he continues, after all the years, to put into the stupid statements of 19 year old kids.

I hate D Scott hate much as the next guy but all he did was relay (presumably) direct quote from a player.  I would assume Kendall has some idea of what a quality Big 12 LB looks like.  Obviously players tend to speak highly of their own teammates.  But pretending this is some tard fodder cooked up by D Scott is equally as tarded.

I don't think this is d_scott cooking.  It is tard cooking.  It happens every year.

Of course all he did was relay a quote.  This is just D_Scott being a jersey chasing fan boy.  The difference is a good journalist like J-Mart just rolls their eyes at this sort of silly BS and it never sees the light of day.

Ya Im sure Zach Kendall Has no clue what a good LB looks like. Except for the fact that he had to block them every game this year. And In case any of you are clueless about who a guard blocks on many plays....its the linebackers

Says who? Are you an expert? Maybe you coached him? Im sure you know that because you watched him on every play in every game right? I mean k-state only averaged 33.6 points per game. Maybe if he wasn't in it would be 40. Idk. Enlighten me.

Did Kendall end up on any postseason teams?  I thought the dude did a decent job.  A few penalties but our entire team averaged very penalties so I don't imagine the number of penalties Kendall accumulated was some horrile amount.

The second part of the quote was left out, unfortunately....

Quote
Ya, he's dominant.  Like when Carsy calls his own number on the zone read, Carsy can never beat Arthur around the edge.  I mean it's the same play that we chews the 1's up with on regular basis and we can't even run it against the scout team.  Watching Arthur is like playing NFL Blitz.

Who knows if Brown will be worth a crap as a LB for us, but to assume he is not more athletic and faster than any other candidate on our squad is rather narrow minded IMO.  He may be Marvin Simmons revision 2 for all we know but can't we hope that might not be the case?

Not being facetious...

Brown + Walker + Garrett at LB/S hybrid isn't a bad lineup at all.  That's serviceable talent at the very least.

If Burns is a decent player as a transfer safety, and Zimmerman gets better, those are five solid starters.

Everything on the edge, and the subsequent depth behind them, is frightening, but that's a solid starting five there.

Thought Garrett was a senior?  Also- Slaughter and Childs both looked solid at times this year.  Burns is a quality safety.  Corners will be fine but the DL is still a huge question.  Boyd and Meshak and ????

Assuming his back is fine, my guess is that he'll play WDE to Harold as the SDE.  Meshak will play in obvious passing situations.

Unless Williams picks up 15-20 in the off season, I don't think he's going to be an every down player.  He's going to be like Von Miller in his impact as a hands down lineman.

Yes.  I never said that the defense would be good, but talent at the linebacker position (and maybe safety) should not be an excuse for people to cling to.
