Title: The less fortunate
Post by: j rake on December 13, 2010, 01:36:01 PM
I can't stand seeing them around the holidays.

Makes me feel just ... awful.

Agree.

When I worked down town, there were a couple a year that would be found frozen to death in dumpsters near our building(we worked near some of the missions and shelters).

Very topical post.

Here's a tip!  Get the sunday paper, then carry around the Best Buy circular with you all week.  If you see one of those types, just lift your Best Buy circular to obstruct the view of them and browse for delightful consumer products at the EXACT SAME TIME!  Two birds is what I am saying here.

The only thing that makes me feel less sad is walking past the Salvation Army bell ringers. They are incredibly arrogant and give rude looks to people that do not give them change. Look bitch, I understand that you are sitting outside of the grocery store in the freezing cold. However, I also realize that you could technically just move inside and do the same exact thing. So no, I don't feel guilty, and the nasty looks you give me will do nothing to change the fact that I often don't carry cash on me.

Get a credit card machine and stop dinging that damn bell.  :curse:

What about those guys with the Tootsie Rolls?

Surely you feel different about them?

One of these days, when that guy who clearly isn't homeless up on KCs Plaza asks me if I can help him put a down payment on a cheeseburger, I'm going to rough ridin' shove a burger down his rough ridin' throat in the single greatest face-to-face charitable EMAW donation of all time.

Knights of Columbus.  Same general idea as the bell ringers, only they push tootsie rolls.

Was @ a Dillons today and the Salvation Army thing was not only inside but had a card payment deal.  Pretty big time.

eff the homeless. eff the less fortunate. eff them all in the ass. there was a time where they looked at Mc Donalds and said, "eff you golden arches - I'm too good for you!" I have no patience for that crap. there are programs for people who are strung out, there are MANY programs for Veterans (more than you might think). I will just hug my kids and kiss my wife and think happy thoughts about EMAWnation.
