Tried a cookie/cake thing like this yesterday. Took chocolate cake, crumbled it, mixed it with choc frosting then formed it into little balls. Dipped balls in chocolate and let them harden. Pretty damn good, although not sure it would qualify as a "cookie," but rather a cakeball.

so now oreos aren't cookies huh? well eff me then. i mean next thing you're going to tell me is that potato chips aren't potato chips or the bed that i'm laying in currently is actually an airplane made out of poop. well guess what? it's not. it's a bed and those god damn oreo balls are 90% oreos which are so totally cookies that they should change they're name to oreookies.
bad person.

Russell Stovers just down the street from me in Fairway has quality oreo balls. 99¢ ea you guys should do it. BTW, these oreo balls are so great, the word balls should rename itself to oreos and oreos could just be whatever somebody thinks up that sounds delicious.

clams-
.99/ball is highway robbery. i am willing to sell them at 85/ball and free shipping on purchases of twenty balls or more. pm me 4 the whole 411.
-
well, i only need a handful of balls because i've already arranged to make my own balls tomorrow night.
oh, lmao, don't worry because i'll be using peppermint oreos. but i do need a few balls to get me through tomorrow day and that russell stover opens early for coffee and i can just stop by first thing in the am. don't worry, lmao. don't even think about worrying because tomorrow night ill be making my own oreo balls. did you think you can really sell me 20 @ 85/ball? seems like highway robbery but maybe it's a great deal because your balls are pretty good? i don't know- it's not like i can google your recipe and get reviews of the actual oreo balls that you made. if i could i probably wouldn't even worry about it since i am not going to get ripped off @ 85/ball w/ free shipping. love to subsidize your holiday shopping list with my ball money but oh wait no i wouldn't gmafb, seriously? go cats but no thanks, go cats.

If you go to the 'Stove (:dunno:, might catch on) don't be discouraged if they only have like two on their display plate, this is typical. They have the rest locked in a fridge in their basement happy vault, fully-secured in tupperware. Be sure to also observe the local college sports assorted candy sections.

Now one of my favorite holiday cookies...
Spiced Pumpkin-Oatmeal Cookies
http://www.chow.com/recipes/30456-spiced-pumpkin-oatmeal-cookies (http://www.chow.com/recipes/30456-spiced-pumpkin-oatmeal-cookies)
For the cookies:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups rolled oats (not instant)
1 1/4 teaspoons baking chowder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon fine salt
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 sticks (8 ounces) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin purée (not pie filling; about 1 3/4 cups)
For the glaze:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon milk (not nonfat), plus more as needed
2 tablespoons maple syrup
INSTRUCTIONS
For the cookies:
1. Heat the oven to 350°F and arrange the racks to divide the oven into thirds. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper; set aside.
2. Whisk the flour, oats, baking chowder, cinnamon, ginger, salt, and nutmeg in a medium bowl to aerate and break up any lumps; set aside.
3. Place the butter and sugars in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and beat on medium speed until lightened in color and fluffy, about 5 minutes. Stop the mixer and scrape down the paddle and the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula.
4. Add the egg and vanilla, return the mixer to medium speed, and beat until incorporated, about 30 seconds. Stop the mixer and scrape down the paddle and the sides of the bowl.
5. With the mixer on low speed, add half of the reserved flour mixture and mix until just incorporated. Add half of the pumpkin and mix until just incorporated. Repeat with the remaining flour mixture and pumpkin.
6. Drop 8 dough rounds per baking sheet by the scant 1/4 cup, staggering them 2 inches apart on the prepared sheets.
7. Place both sheets in the oven and bake for 12 minutes. Rotate the pans from top to bottom and front to back and continue baking until the cookies are golden brown on the bottom and around the edges, about 12 minutes more.
8. Place the baking sheets on wire racks and let the cookies cool on the sheets for 3 minutes. Using a flat spatula, transfer the cookies to the wire racks to cool completely. Let the baking sheets cool to room temperature and then repeat with the remaining dough (you can use the same parchment paper). When all of the cookies are baked, set the pieces of parchment paper aside.
For the glaze:
1. Place all of the ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk until evenly combined. (You may need to add more milk by the 1/2 teaspoon if the glaze is too thick to drizzle.)
2. Place all of the cooled cookies on the reserved parchment sheets. Dip a fork into the glaze and drizzle it over the cookies in a zigzag pattern. Let the cookies sit at room temperature until the glaze has set, about 20 minutes.

Let the cookies sit at room temperature until the glaze has set, about 20 minutes.
sounds great. I have all of these ingredients. May try this week.

1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin purée (not pie filling; about 1 3/4 cups)
I have all of these ingredients.
Seems like a strange one to just keep on hand to me.

cookies need to be baked. that's all i'm saying. not saying that thing doesn't taste good or whatever, but there's a line that needs to be drawn somewhere.
sounds pretty intolerant.
when was the last time you had no-bake meatloaf?

At minimum, a cookie needs to be cooked. Otherwise you are just eating cookie dough.
-
They are called cookies, Clams, not bakies.

I will spend the upcoming week perfecting a cooked but not baked meatloaf and get back to you.

Well then they should be called bakies and not cookies. Everyone knows no-bake cookies are in fact cookies.

is an oreo a cookie?
I'm sure at some point in the oreo making process, baking is involved.

No, it's THE cookie. Only double stuffed, though. Regular stuffed Oreos are more pud that steve dave.

great thing about cookies isn't it, jakesie60? that an old fashioned guy like me can hate double stuffs, and a young buck like yourself can love them, and yet we can sit down together and enjoy an ice cold brew and shoot the crap like bros?
-
I'm not sure I could enjoy a beer with anyone who didn't think no-bake cookies were actually cookies.
Unless that person was EMAW, then I could.

The double/regular stuf oreo debate depends on milk, imo.

so an oreo is a cookie, but a crushed up oreo with cream cheese and more chocolate added to it isn't? give me a break folks. unless you have an oven that can unbake something (you don't), then those oreo ball things are cookies. good night, don't let the bed bugs bite.
-
Saw the dipper in action today. Great day to be a Wildcat folks. Really special.
-

-

the possibilities are endless.
Their greatness only makes other desserts greater.
-
I'm not a big sweets or cookie person but I got the Girl Scout cookies I ordered today. Gonna put the caramel delites in the freezer when I get home and man oh man that's a great cookie.
-
Did they get re-renamed to Samoas or is that only for the foreign market?
-
Nope they are still just caramel delites

i think that the mystery flavor oreo is fruit loops
-
I heard fruity pebbles but I have not tasted them myself
-
ya that’s what a lot of people guess but they already did fruity pebbles last year and these taste similar but maybe a little different

Are those Schwetty balls?
-
Looks great.
I love eating pfefferneuse around Christmas.
-
When I was young we would go to family reunions and ppl always brought food items for a potluck. These kinds of cookies were always on the dessert table. It has been many years since I ate these cookies but IIRC they were good and very rich.
-
My dad always makes chocolate-covered peanut butter balls (approx 2cm ball of pb, rice krispies and powdered sugar coated w/ milk chocolate) around Christmas. Still my favorite Christmas goodie.
-
Those are great. I've recently had issues with thinking about people rolling those with their hands and I get grossed out. Normally power through and eat them anyway because they are so good.
