* Ken Pomeroy thinks Syracuse is overrated.
* Ken Pomeroy thinks Kansas State is overrated "They are winning their games, but they are winning their games closely against bad teams."

I'm not saying that we probably aren't overrated, but in their eight victories, KSU has averaged nearly 18 point victories, and only two have been less than ten digits.

I'm just saying...that's kind of a dumbass reason to consider us overrated.  Sloppy play?  Okay.  Bad free throw shooting team causing you concern?  Sure.

Only beating your opponents by 18 points a game?  That's only something a true stat geek would cling to.

He pointed more to the Duke game coupled with our close wins.  I think a lot can be explained away by Frank ball but I also think our ft rate means we are not going to be as good and are going to take some bad losses because of 3 pt/ft shooting.

He's just trying to keep us where we were this time last year....hovering around the top 25. He figures if the pollsters aren't going to put the chip on our shoulder, he will do his best to do so.

See, I'm with mcmw.  We haven't been sufficiently angry this year.  It's like we've arrived, and we're just happy to sit back and be spoiled by the JYC success.

Well, dammit, I'm not going to do that any more.  Ken Pom can go eff himself.  Stupid meteorologist.  What in the eff does he know?  Weather?  Pfffft.  Weathermen can't predict crap, so why should I believe he can predict a basketball game?

The anger last year was so organic though. I don't know if it can be faked. I'm going to have to do some thinking about this.

Yeah.  I don't think we will be as angry this year.  Pretty much impossible.  However, I do think we will be completely inappropriate and angry when conference season rolls around.  I mean when the media is fellating your favorite bball team it is kind of hard to build up the angries.

If they don't tear some ass up in these next three noncons the media will be fileting our favorite basketball team.

If the naysayers are correct, then after the next 3 games, there will be plenty of anger to go around.

Love KenPom.  I thought everyone knew he was a meteorologist.  Kind of surprised he gambles on CBB, for some reason.

I don't think KSU has had more than one close game against a "bad" team.  If you lead by 30+ in the second half, is it really "close"?  :dunno:

This. I dont think I can explain in words how livid I will be when we play Okie Lite. I think we will activate full JYC mode in conference.

I love kenpom, but if someone used the "close wins over bad teams" talking point on this board as the reason that we were overrated, they would (or at least should) be PI'd mercilessly.

no they wouldn't.  that's exactly what people have been posting for the last 3 weeks (that and the corollary, not-so-close loss to a good team), and pretty much everyone has agreed.

There's been that, but there's also been a lot of "this is the time of year Frank fucks around and creates drama so as to motivate the team later", and a lot of "who the eff knows?". I'd probably argue about a hundred other reasons why we may be overrated before I'd hang my hat on non-con win/loss margins.

Ok Ken. I'll leave you to your excel spreadsheets, because nothing is more important than pure numbers a month before we even play a conference game.
