I am an angler.

Cabelas/Dicks Sporting Goods type places are best.

Yeah, I would say that for a true "one stop", wide selection and halfway decent prices it's hard to beat either Cabella's or Bass Pro Shop.  Dick's has a fairly decent selection as well.

You need to PM "wellsculptedeyebrows".  He's THE authority on all things angling related.  I can assure you nobody on this board takes angling more seriously.

Steve, have you seen the movie "A river runs through it?"  I cannot fish as good as Brad Pitt in that movie, so if that's what you are looking for, I am NOT your guy.

However, if you are interested in putting pieces of hot dog on hook, just sort of chucking it out there, and then getting black-out drunk while you stare at the bobber, then I have quite a bit of knowledge to share with you.

I'm not master angler, but even wal-mart stuff isn't too bad.  They have lots of stuff and really fish don't care what they bite, it's all in how you flick it.
And also I'm a master-bater.     :frown:

Hardest thing I ever reeled in:  Stingray - about 20" wide at midpoint

The guy on the dock called it a "kite".  Don't know if that is a type of stingray like fish, or if he was  :drink:.

I once caught a bullhead catfish and it swallowed the hook and I had to cut the line and throw it back in the lake to it's almost certain death.  pretty sad day for little sd.

I was in Mississippi.  I have no doubt the local on the dock was  :opcat:, so very possible.

One time I thought my hook got stuck on a log or something and I had to reel as hard as I could to get it to shore.  When it got there what was on the end of the line?  You guessed it.  A turtle.

I'm a neophyte angler, but I can only catch catfish.  I'm not good at catching anything else. My favorite moments in fishing is when I catch a catfish and get the hook out (really quick), I turn the fishes face towards my wife and say "IT'S A TRAP!" in my best Admiral Ackbar voice.

I really like it when anglers use the word "mess" to describe a really good day of angling.

"We caught a mess of channel cat the other day at Old Charlie's Pond. Must have been 13 on the stringer."

The best part of fishing is when open a fresh case of explosives, or when you get the old phone generator cleaned up reel nice.

one time sdbro and I put a fishing net on the bottom of a lake and held onto the long handle and then dumped an entire bag of popcorn into the water over it and it was, like, sunny city right there above the net.  Then we yanked up on the net and guess how many we caught?  You guessed, 3.

Haven't gotten to do much of it the last few years, just a couple times a year.  Just bought a boat, though (purple with powercats--KState0 in a cheap kind of way), so I'll be doing a good deal more of it by spring.

I grew up on the Ninnescah river and used to set Trot lines all the time.  The Ninnescah is pretty small so I only had 5 - 6 hooks on each set.  One time I had a channelcat on every hook.  Another time I caught 2 softshell turtles on the same line snagged them in the back leg.  Stupid turtles.

i have a fish costume that i put on sometimes and go to the lake and swim under water then wait until anglers come.  then i hook myself on their line and let them pull me in to their boat.  when they get me in the boat and try to hold me up to take a picture with me, i get out of the fish costume and yell pranked.  works every time.  dumbasses.

I get down with torturing fish.  Sometimes a put them in a cooler until they are like paralyzed and then I feed them to a turtle.   Also, one time I cut off a fish's fin and fed it to the same fish.  Fish are dumb.

One time I little sd and little sdbros were in Colorado with the parents and we wanted to stay and fish at some lake but dad sd said it was time to go.  Hadn't caught a fish all day but he said that if we caught a fish in the next 5 minutes we could stay for another hour.  What happened next?  You guessed it, sd brings home the bacon in the form of a beautiful tiny little rainbow trout at about the 4 minute mark.   :emawkid:

I used to fish on a golf course lake that had tons of largemouth bass in it.  Every once in a while one of the course marshalls would come by and tell us kids to get off his course.  Fun game of cat and mouse with that course marshall those summers.  Almost seems like the fishing was secondary now that I think about it.

I used to fish in my uncle's pond.

One day I broke a 50 pound test line...twice!  :horrorsurprise:

Other than that, I once went fly fishing in Canada. Awesome, still have the fishing license.  :gocho:

The small mouth bass is second only to the large mouth bass in mouth size

Was out trolling at Milford when I was about 12.  Snagged a 28 lb carp in the tail.  Being in the tail, it had pretty much full strength to swim away.  Jumped out of the water twice completely while we were reeling it in.  It was a yard long.  Unless I ever make it to the ocean, I doubt I'll ever catch anything bigger.
