1. Why doesn't Frank love 'Tay? Really good D, handles the point well enough, shooting well this year, looks like P. Diddy.
2. Why is our press so atrocious? We're practically tailor-made to be a pressing team (not that we should be pressing all the time or anything), but we suck horrifically at pressing. Looks to be a design thing, because our press for whatever reason grants teams the entire middle of the court. Just not something we practice, and therefore are not good at, or is it something deeper?

1) what makes you think he doesn't? he's the only high-major coach that offered him a 'ship, that has to count for something. and he's not that great defensively.
-
define love in Frank terms.
-
always wondered about our press too. I wonder if sprilla fucks it up?

I think he's pretty damn good defensively. And by "love" I mean more PT. It might just be part of Frank's "mess with lineups in the non-con" I guess.
-
1) He's still on the team, he's not getting the Nick Russell treatment...I'm pretty sure that qualifies as "love" from Frank. As for his D, he's not perfect, but better than Nick, Doc, or Canada. Feeds the post well, Frank likes that.
-
I think Martin loves Tay and Judge. I think both have been legitimately sick and Tay legitimately hurt. While sick/hurt, they probably haven't been able to practice at the level he expects. He's not mad at them, but he's not going to play guys that haven't practiced at a high level or prepared or specific opponents. I believe Frank probably thinks Sprads is a slightly better pg at this point.
You only have time to practice certain things. Frank's main focus is half court man, rotations, rebounding, etc. Then probably half court offense and transition. Then inbounds, etc. Then zone defense, full court pressure. Just guesses, but for the way we play, probably something like that. Our full court pressure is mainly token stuff, change of pace, to mess with opponent's tempo, rhythm, etc. We'll throw it out for real only when we really need it. Same with our zone, mainly in the last 5 minutes of a half or game and mainly a change of pace.

for a big 12 guard, he's pretty average. he was better than a typical freshman as a freshman.

I disagree. :dunno:

Tays handle is not really point guard caliber, we essentially have all 2 guards other than Canada.

They're good enough. As good as Spradler's.

Good enough to dribble up the court and pass the ball to a wing player? Or good enough to handle an aggressive man to man defense / press? Because I am pretty sure we have no one that can handle the latter.
-
question: did kougs ask these questions so that he could answer them?
answer: yes

I was fairly sure I knew what the answer to #2 was (_FAN confirmed), but I still don't know the answer to #1, so no.

the canadian's defense is awful. the rest of the guards' defense is average . i don't think tay's defense is any better than any of the non-canadian guards. if take a drink every time our guards get beat you'll be hammered within 5 minutes of any ksu game.

I'm ignoring your basketball posts (after this one) until February, since you're being such a FP, TC, etc.

my biggest problem with the maple leaf is the size of his head. it's inexplainbly small. other than that he seems ok to me, other than his head and he's canadian. although justin beiber is canadian too and he's the shiznit. so, maybe it's just his small melon that i take issue with.

Its plausible Beiber's head is small, but he makes up for it with his hair. If Myles had normal Canadian hair (like Beiber) there wouldn't be a problem.

I've always had the impression that the full court pressure's main purpose is to drain 10 seconds off the shot clock so that our pressure half-court D has less time to cover. If we get a TO, it's a bonus.

yeah. i have to just lol at all the people who think he's good looking. ummmm, maybe in the world of abnormally large heads he is, but in manhattan, kansas, usa? no. not so much.

Exactly, that's part of disrupting an opponent's offense. It will often speed up an opponent when they get into the halfcourt offense. Its definitely not for the same purpose as Missouri's pressure.

sounds like one-size-fits-all caps don't exactly fit everybody.

His head is fine. So fine.

Based on the other teams I've seen this year, I certainly don't think it's below average, and I definitely think 'Tay's D is above average at least.
-
tay is a good defensive guard. He has really good footwork. Does a really good job of retreating when someone drives on him.
IMO, his ball handling skills are OK. Sprads is more of a true PG. Tay really never looks that comfortable pushing the ball in transistion.
In most important games, we are gonna have 2 of the 3 (jake sprads tay) on the court for majority of the game. Russel isn't playing well right now and hard telling how many minutes he gets when conf time gets here. So even if Sprads and Jake are handling the ball most of the time, we are gonna have 2 guys that have some PG ability in there for a good portion of the game

How would anyone know if Russell was playing well right now? He only gets 3 minutes a game.

If you start ( and your name is not Colon) and you get under 10 min/g consistently as of late AND
Then you lose your starting job ...........
pretty good indication that you are not playing well
