Title: All Conference
Post by: jtksu on December 01, 2010, 07:19:29 PM
(Coaches)
Powell 1st team
DT, Zimms, and Kendall 2nd team.
Which one of you dumbfucks guaranteed Zimmerman would never make 1st or 2nd team?  Or did you just mean he would make it this year but never again after that?

I'm a little surprised no one from our defensive front 7 made the all conference team.

DT being second team is just mean.  He's better than Murray and Hunter (assuming they're first team) he just had to run through 9 man fronts to accumulate the same yardage.

Zimmerman definitely is not one of the top 4 safeties in the conference. None of our defensive players deserve to be any where near the all Big XII list.

Guess you and the coaches of the conference will just have to agree to disagree.

You mean the intern who actually fills the thing out?

If this was a preseason compilation you would be accurate.  The postseason awards carry much more weight and possible monetary value.

Agreed. Also, most other teams had other offensive options, when queso was in there it wasn't hard to figure out where the ball was going.

I can't believe we make up stuff to disregard our better players.  I know pessimism is the norm when it comes to football, especially defense, but this just gets stupid after a while.

I'm so confused.

Why was he voted 2nd team if he isn't 2nd team?  Sympathy votes? An intern filled out the sheet? Our defense sucked so we can't have a good player? And b/c Marcus Watts and other safeties at K-State ended up not being very good, he's automatically not very good?

The only reason any of this is being said is b/c he's a white greyshirt from Kansas.

To be honest I think that everyone knew that if he was not on the team our defense would have looked even worse.  He made some great plays and was everywhere and probably the only reason that we played as close to OSU as we did.

The reason Marcus Watts regressed his last two years was entirely due to injury and not because his awesome year in 2005 was some kind of fluke.  The dude had a major hip injury at the end of the season and I remember him having to be carted off the field after a play in the end zone.  It should come as no surprise he was slower than he was before after his recovery.  I would expect any safety to regress under such circumstances if they recovered well enough to play again at all.

Because anyone who watched our games saw that true freshman grayshirt kid making a touchdown saving tackle about six times a game.

I'll openly admit that one of the things I'm worst at is grading offensive linemen, but one thing that I don't get is the Kendall love.

Maybe I focus on the bad stuff too much and don't notice the good stuff.  But it seems like he got destroyed in some of the bigger games, and Aldon Smith and nameless freshmen from UCF just clowned him.

Someone help me out here and tell me the really nuanced things that I'm just not noticing because I wasn't an offensive lineman.

no you are right, he was awful. whenever we needed a key false start to kill any hope of a drive though he was there.

Don't get the Powell hate from the media. He led the entire nation in kick return average. It wasn't like he put up good numbers one game and got hurt.  :dunno:

I don't think Zimmerman is one of the better safeties in the league.  I think its possible that he had one of the better seasons for safeties in the league and should get credit for that tho.

I just think some people are looking at overall talent and not necessarily what they accomplished on the field.
