Based on the 2 exhibition games, some observations:
Mcgruder is long and can hit the outside shot, but inconsistent.
Irving may be the best option defensively, but has marginal ball handling and offensive skills.
Spradling has the most intensity and is decent all around, but not great in any one area. May lack the speed to defend elite guards.
Russel is the best in transition, but has defensive lapses.
Williams is quick and can hit the outside shot, unsure about the other stuff.
Peterson is ?
Southwell is long and very athletic
Myles is...Canadian.
Out of that group..who should get the majority of the minutes opposite Pullen?
(btw HOLY crap WE ARE DEEP )
I'd lean towards Mcgruder right now for three reasons:
1) He's one of the most experienced guys in the group mentioned above
2) His length
3) We need a guard opposite Pullen who can shoot it from deep

jamar
all part of frank's plan

McGruder and Spradling have shown me the most so far. If Hot Rod can get his defense figured out, he will be 2nd team all big 12 this year.
-
spradling is a good player and is able to controle the point more. he still needs a lot of work, but feel that he has the most skill out of anyone. he is able to shoot from any where.
Irving has more speed then spradling, but not as good of a shooter.
I like russel because he is more like clemente in transition and if feel ksu needs more speed.
Mcgruder needs to stay at the 2 or 3 because of his shoot.
real want to see peterson play

95 waiting in the shadows :peek:

I like HotRod @ the 3. Guess whoever takes the lead out of Irv, Sprads, Russel, and DPete. Maybe it won't matter much and several players will all get decent minutes. It will be tough to defend us with all the different looks we can throw at teams in the front and back courts. PS, I think Sprads ends up with the most consistant minutes if he can consistanly hit the three. Frank seems to like his D and trusts him with the ball.

if we are looking at who will get the most minutes from the 2/3 spot it's going to be Irving/MacGruder with MacG getting the most consistent minutes - but not necessarily at the 2
outside of Pullen i see this team being balanced and who gets the minutes will depend on who is playing/practicing well and the match-ups they provide. but i think Southwell, Spradling, Irving, & MacG will join Pullen on the perimeter the majority of the time leaving Russell, Nino, and Peterson on the outside looking in.
(if 95 gets cleared to play soon then you'd think he has to be a factor) :dunno:
-
Irv at the 2
Rod at the 3, unless Jam's eye/vagina issue gets resolved via Daris' time machine.
-
McGruds
Spradling
Irving
Russell
But this will be an evolving deal throughout the OOC. We're going to see LOTS of combos at the 1/2 and even 1/2/3 spots.
-
I think it's going to depend more on how we see our opponents in film. If it looks like we can beat them in a half court game, then I think Sprads is at the 1 and Pullen at the two.
Then if it looks like the other team is slow, we push it with Russell, Mcgruds, DPete. I still think we have to be looking for someone capable of letting Pullen play at the 2.
-
I really like Russell. He's the only person so far this season that's shown the ability to really push the ball down the court and score in transition.
-
Man, I used to make fun of phog.net quite a bit for the constant "minutes" conversations.

agree that it will be matchup based. kinda like what we did with JHR at times last year. unless Dpete is all he's built up to be. then its him all the way.
