Title: Police Scanners...
Post by: Pett on October 21, 2010, 10:38:39 PM
Very underrated thing to just sit back and listen to the police scanner when going to bed or something IMHO. Anybody else a fan of this? Also, what are some cool things you have heard on there?

Mine: Black guy running down an alley in Chicago being chases by three different cops. They got him. :woot:

Listened to one the night that guy was loose in Blue Rapids earlier this year. Pretty cool stuff. Seems like that crap shouldn't be available to the public, ya know? I mean the hostage taker inside the house could have a scanner and could tell TBL was peeking into some high schoolers room.

Listened to first responders get lost in Chapman, Kansas, after the tornado. Most of the responders were from outside Chapman and didn't have any reference points (street signs) to use. Was very weird.

Just like Greensburg. Total moonscape.

I have one sitting on my desk and always turn it on when I hear sirens, and occasionally on weekend nights just to hear the crazy stuff going on in Aggieville.

My Grandparents live in Western Kansas and growing up they would have a scanner on all day in their house so it seems pretty normal to me.  I even have a printout that tells me what all the police codes mean  :horrorsurprise:

When I was younger and me and my friends were bored we'd hop in a car and drive around listening to it.  When we heard something interesting come out we'd see if we could beat the cops to the scene.  Seems pretty nerdy but we got to see some cool crap.

Now that I think of it, we still kind of do it.  Whenever there is a big storm or an emergency we'll go out sightseeing with the dispatcher telling us where to check out.

Always talked with my  friends in high school about going together to buy one of those so we could hear them on their way to Wildcat to bust up our parties, then split before they got there.  Never did.  Had lots of big dreams that involved underage drinking elite-style that never came to fruition.

My brother used to work at the casino, and they had a police scanner so they'd always give us a call if the cops were on their way.  One time a cop got a hold of my phone number after trying to break up the party only to find out we had left.  I answered, and he said, "You know, you're really starting to piss me off.  Do you guys have a scanner or something?"

Have an iPhone app that has a police scanner radio thing.  Not really exciting, never know what they are talking about.

AAAAAH!  Those are the kind of cop-swindling big dreams we always had but never executed!  Well done, well done.  Thank you, thank you.
:katpak: :katpak: :katpak: :katpak: :katpak: for you.

I'm more of a HAM radio type of guy, especially when you consider that police scanners are for rough ridin' pussies.
