you'd think the coaches would be able to defeat this, but 31-0? that's insane.
if it actually happens, it could conceivably be good for kstate (in the sense that it might be less of a negative for kstate than for some competitors), but it's still just idiocy.

Logic would say that a 31-0 vote would mean the commisioners had an awful lot of reasons to vote for cutting out the July recruiting periods. I can't really think of any. Cheaper, more productive, better policing, etc, etc, recruiting at those events. Plus, no time away from the teams. I'm sure they have their reasons... I mean, they have too, right?

Sounds bad.
But what do you do if you're the coach at Iowa State or Mississippi State or Kansas State? What do you do if you're not surrounded by prospects? The lack of a summer recruiting period would make it impossible to see groups of prospects at the same time, and your relatively rural location would make it difficult to evaluate during the high school season because it's not like you can just jump in a car and see kids after practice like Ben Howland can do at UCLA. More likely, you would have to take a flight. And who wants to fly across the country during the season to see one kid you may or may not ultimately sign when you could take a flight during the offseason, sit in one gym and see 150 prospects in a 48-hour period?

This affects everyone in the Big 12 not in Texas about equally. Like sys says, someone like Kansas probably has more to lose than we do.
Overall, though, it's just a terrible, terrible idea. There is not a single positive that can be derived from this.

it's like they want these kids having access to agents and runners but not college coaches. bunch of rough ridin' geniuses on that committee.

Well, sounds like we have a good month to kick off goEMAW.com premium services!

I'm not sure why i find this image so amazing...

This could potentially really hurt Coach Bumps at ku. Does he have any other kids playing AAU ball where he can pretend to be trying to find their court for 2 hours while walking by a recruit and his parents 12 times??
-
I'm about 99% certain I've heard Frank state that he wished they would remove the July recruiting period if it were up to him.

I forgot most schools only recruit in their backyard. :jerk:

"I'm not a big fan of (July)," he said. "It's not the traveling, it's the inability to work while you're traveling. You sit in the stands and watch games. It's part of our job, but you're not able build those relationships that are so important."
Doesn't like it, but didn't say he wants it removed.

that's in strict regards to the fact that it's a dead period (or is it a no-contact period?) where the coaches can watch but they can't talk to recruits (hence the infamous self-wall bump). he's not saying that he'd rather not go and see them at all, just that he'd like to be able to both see them and talk to them.

I have coffee every morning with Frank and he says he "rough ridin' hates it".

Can't be 31-0. KU guy at my office told me again last week that they were going to be way better this year than last year. If he is right, (all KU fans usually are) then we would have to be way...way better than last year to beat them. Sorry to tell you doodz this, but it looks like 29-2. Good thing they will get knocked out in the first or second round of the tornament (Frank) like usual before we play them.
He also said that Aldrich was not very good and really just ate up a bunch of space and cost them a lot of points last year. LOL.

I love listening to KU fans as the rationalize how their teams will be.
Very entertaining.

After all of these years dealing/listening to them, this may have been the most amazing thing I have heard. I laughed the first time he told me and he said, "no, I'm serious" and I lol'd even more.
I hope he isn't right though :ohno:

His bit on Cole is the dead give away.

"July gives players an unbelievable opportunity to be involved in something good. They can't go to summer school. So we're going to take away opportunities for them to be around structure? July does need reassessing on the rules that apply to it, how it's handled — all that needs to be revisited."

“It’s the biggest month of the summer, there’s no question,” Kansas State associate head coach Dalonte Hill said. “They take away April and now they want to take away July? It sounds like you’ve got to hire a recruiting coach now instead of an assistant.
“When else are you supposed to evaluate? Most people think you’re evaluating talent, but the reality is that you know who can play -- you’re just trying to see if they can play for you. That takes time because you’re evaluating personalities. July is the best month to do that.”

Uhh....Dalonte? That 400k salary isn't because you're an awesome assistant coach.

You missed his point. If you don't see these kids in July you need to devote a lot more time in season for evaluation. Despite your simple pun all coaches, Delonte included, have plenty of responsibilities with their current teams, like opponent scouting and game planning, to have to spend a great deal of time on the road.
