3. Ames, Iowa just might not be the spot.
A 5-19 record at Iowa State was the root cause of the hysteria, but most failed to recognize one critical factor—his awful two-year mark occurred in Ames, where coaching careers have historically gone to die.

Your asking me to pretend ISU has a history of good football?? Coaching football is really rough ridin' hard in Ames. There, I said it.

Chizik still blows, but he can recruit to where he blows now. W/o Newton they are a .500 team.

You know, I've kinda wondered about the concept of ISTATEO. Does it exist? How pervasive is it? How well embraced is the ISTATEO culture? interesting questos, i think

Great point here. Would love to know as well.

They didn't fire him, and he was absolutely terrible at ISU. This was a win-win for both the school and coach, and it's the only instance I can think of where that was ever the case.
*edit Did you mean McCarney? if so, I guess I could agree with that, though Rhodes looks like he may be able to have as much success at ISU as McCarney did.

McCarney was asked to resign a year after our program was ranked and had ABC Primetime Games vs Nebraska.... on Saturdays... Yea, Havs didn't like that move too much.
-
McCarney had some damn good teams at ISU. I guess it's possible for Rhodes to get to that level eventually but I doubt he will. Schools don't give coaches much time anymore to build a program. If you ain't winning by year 3, GTFO.

Yes and no, Jamie Pollard doesn't play by any other rules except Jamie Pollard's.
If Gene Smith or oscar VanDeVelde hired you, he will have zero patience for you. (McCarney, Morgan, even Bill Fennelly until he took ISU to Elite 8)
If he hired you, he is way too patient and will give you a contract extension basically if you ask for it (Chizik, McDermott)
I personally don't think ISU will be truly successful, in football, ever, in the current Big 12 round robin setup. Lets hope for two, four, or six additions to the league.

ISU's schedule should be easier next year than it is this year.

You mean with all our 'winnable' games now on the road and our unwinnable games at home? Not really lol.
Instead of having Missouri, Kansas, and Texas Tech at home; we now have to go to Columbia, Lawrence and Lubbock. Texas and OU come to Ames, along with the Hawkeyes, which could actually be a competitive game next year since Iowa is a senior-heavy team. ISU fans are in a state of apathy at the moment and will be ready to start supporting again once things turn around, if they ever do.
-
You won't lose to KU in Lawrence. Buck up there, Havs, and tell me about ISTATEO.
-
I forgot about the schedule changes for the Big 12. Here's Iowa State's 2011 slate.
Sat, Sep 03 Northern Iowa Ames, Iowa TBA
Sat, Sep 10 Iowa Ames, Iowa TBA
Sat, Sep 17 Connecticut at Storrs, Conn. TBA
Sat, Oct 01 Texas Ames, Iowa TBA
Sat, Oct 08 Baylor * at Waco, Texas TBA
Sat, Oct 15 Missouri * at Columbia, Mo. TBA
Sat, Oct 22 Texas A&M (HC) * Ames, Iowa TBA
Sat, Oct 29 Texas Tech * at Lubbock, Texas TBA
Sat, Nov 05 Kansas * Ames, Iowa TBA
Sat, Nov 12 Oklahoma * at Norman, Okla. TBA

At least basketball will be good by then. :excited:

I honestly have no clue what the eff you are talking about. However, I dont think he's a cereal guy...
Rhoads then tossed out another fact that borders on superstition:
“I’m going to have pancakes (today),” he offered without prodding. “I had pancakes the last two Tuesdays, and I’m going to do it again.”

No Utah. No Nebraska. Texas A&M and Texas Tech are both terrible this year and probably won't be much better next year. Baylor is winnable, even on the road. :dunno:

UCONN is pretty decent. :dunno:

Yes, scheduling them was stupid, but they are not as good as Utah.

Tech will be amazing next year. Prob win the B12(-2).

At best, Tech will be as good as K-State is this year.

You know KSTATEO? Apply that to ISU. BOOM! ISTATEO! Don't be shy with me in your description, now. :gocho:
-
Havs, you think McCarney's success was his own doing or based on Seneca Wallace? Can't remember ISU doing anything except his season. Either way, I think Rhoads is in the top half of Big 12 coaches

Sage Rosenfels was good for them, too. And those 2 brothers, RBs... Davis maybe? Those dudes were badass.

I just wanted you to come out of hiding Havs. :shy:

ESPNU College Town on facebook took up a large portion of my time; I can only be in so many places at once.

Yeah, can somebody tell me why our KSU is the only big 12 school not on there?

Our attendence numbers suck. Its not like this is a game everyone wants to watch on tv anyway.

“We’ve had all our games on television this year, so I don’t think the Kansas game not being televised matters,” Pollard said.
Jeezuscrist, I'd fire the guy on the spot for this comment. From his perspective, though, televising two of the worst BCS football programs probably hurts recruiting. The iron curtain.
