Title: oh how times have changed
Post by: pissclams on October 15, 2010, 12:52:42 PM
2007
KU has Lew Perkins making the University $$ money hand over fist.  Mangino goes to the Orange Bowl, the football team goes 7-1 in conference and dominates V Tech in Miami.  The basketball team wins the National Championship and is stacked.  New basketball and football facilities were built.  Mangino was their football coach and named Coach of the Year.  Bill Self won the B12 regular season and conference.

K-State lost its AD Tim Weiser and in June 2008 hired Bob Krause, who had no AD experience at any level.  K-State's 2007 football team finished it's 2nd season with Ron Prince, going 5-7 (3-5 in conference) and lost its last 4 games, including a 45-29 loss to Fresno State.  Despite that, Krause- who everyone viewed as Wefald's lackey, extended Prince for an additional 5 years- through 2012.

Huggins left.  In what many viewed as an act of desperation, Wefald and Weiser hire Frank Martin and Te 400k.  K-State was mocked for selling out just to keep the commitments of Beasley and Walker.  Martin had never been head coach in college, at any level.  Dalonte Hill was 27 years old and entering his 5th year in college coaching.  K-State made him the highest paid Assistant Coach in the game.  K-State had no basketball practice facilities or plans for them, or donations for them and was mired in buyouts from Prince, the Krause fall-out, Wefald, etc.

Now
KU football is 2-4 and won't win another game for the next 4 seasons.  Their athletic department is under FBI investigation and they don't have an Athletic Director.  Their new Chancellor is an academic who values books over balls.  Their basketball team's season is depending upon a kid gaining eligibility (we're 2 weeks out from the first game) and who, despite being in high school, is best friends with Carmelo Anthony's agent.

K-State hires AD Currie (young stud) and our football team is 5-1 (2-1) with our only loss to the eventual National Champion team, just drilled KU 59-7 in a game that wasn't even that close and  has construction on the state of the art stadium expansion set to begin in 1Q11.

K-State basketball team finished 2nd in the B12, made an elite eight appearance, has two preseason all-conference picks, has the preseason player of the year, is the preseason pick to win the conference, and is just months away from breaking ground on a new practice facility that will rival any in the country.  Watch it all on ESPN tonight.  KU's Late Night will be featured on Metro Sports Time Warner, in KC.

Summary
How KU managed to eff up this badly is beyond me.

ku now . . . 1-9 in their last 10 conference games.    Last night was their 9th consecutive conference loss.

Thanks Lew Perkins . . . thanks for having such a huge ego that you couldn't tolerate Mark Mangino taking credit for the Orange Bowl.  So you launched a witch hunt and got every FP on the ku football team to come forward with their horror stories.

I think goEMAW should set of a crisis phone line center for KU fans that just want someone to talk to.    :bawl: We could reassure them and crap, saying we have been there and come through it.  Seems like the brotherly  thing to do.  amirite?

Also a big thanks Lew Perkins (BITB in terms of personal financial gain BTW) for putting a massive buyout in Gill's contract . . . for every year left on Gill's contract it will cost ku $2 million dollars to buy him out.   So that number currently sits at $8 million.

But it was worth it right?  They won the Orange bowl and Bball Nat'l Championship.  The upcoming years they'll have of being a complete laughing stock and generating little revenue in football was totally worth that right?  Right?

That's the best part of all. For god knows what reason KU gave Gill basically the most ridiculous contract ever. He owes them nothing if he walks and they owe him the whole 10 million for five years no matter what.

Lew of course didn't give a crap anymore by that point and thanks to his gigantic hard-on for Gill he basically handed him the winning lottery ticket.

I had no clue... WOW, that makes the Prince debocle seem like peanuts (kinda expensive dry roasted gourmet peanuts) but WOW.

 :surprised:

I thought Lew was a shark, and sharks don't get taken with contract provisions like that.

ku has a psychologist on staff right now that is ready to say that lack of sex after 10 p.m. is emotional abuse and is worse than anything Mangino ever did. Trust me I am abused in this way every day of my life :jerk:

Lew didn't get taken in that contract negotiation- he didn't give a eff.  It ain't his money anymore.  And this might be the worst time ever to return to sucking at football if Conference Armageddon ever takes place.
