Baylor coach Scott Drew and the Bears men’s basketball program are being investigated by the NCAA for their involvement in the recruitment of a high school player from Colombia, sources have told FOXSports.com.

Attorney Jim Darnell, who also represented former USC and current UTEP coach Tim Floyd in dealings with the NCAA, confirmed to FOXSports.com he was hired by Drew in September.

FOXSports.com has also confirmed through sources that the NCAA is expected to be in Waco later this month to interview Drew and members of the Bears coaching staff. NCAA representatives did not respond to requests for comment.

Hey, extortion isn't included in the Ten Commandments, is it?  :dunno:

Will Parea be the recruit who, unwittingly, will be remembered in infamy as the prospect who took Baylor down in flames? Sorta like Chris Washburn - NC St, Chris Mills - Kentucky, Mayo - USC, etc

sys will probably want to weigh in on this, but to the best of my knowledge, we've never been involved with him. For a '12 kid, he cut his list to 2(Indiana and Baylor) pretty early and it's stayed that way for the last few months.

kstate was never involved.  i tried to find something on him, since he seemed like a natural target.  only thing i saw were some people saying he was a complete lock to sign with an adidas team.

Quote from: http://www.sbcbaptistpress.org/bpnews.asp?id=32566
To help accomplish his spiritual mission at Baylor, Drew joined with his pastor, Mark Wible at Highland Baptist Church in Waco, in a partnership of faith and fellowship.

Do read the article, it's a laff riot. Drew is such an angel and paragon of morality. He's guided by GOD, so he couldn't possibly have done anything wrong. Hey NCAA, take your satan-spawned investigation elsewhere!

I'm with sys. I hate Drew and Baylor and want them to fail miserably. So this, along with the Dunn incident, is great news.  :pbj:

Just amazing the powers recruiters have these days. We should have had them on the Border Patrol all along:

Quote
Morefield also sent a text to LaLumiere coach Alan Huss, which was obtained by FOXSports.com, saying that if Perea didn’t go to Baylor, he wouldn’t be back in the United States.

"I guarantee u if he does [commit to another school] he will be in Colombia for the spring and summer and next year. Don’t forget it,” the text said.

Who cares if the NCAA is against coaches texting recruits if this was a case of "Sexting" anyway?!

Morefield was just trying to get his boner rubbed while on vacation.

baylor brought him to the us, so it's not so far fetched that they could jeopardize his stay in the country.

Drew cut Morefield loose back in July when he saw thsi coming... You don't really think Baylor will "self  report" these infractions if Drew didn't have all his bases covered. (see hiring all star Defense attorney last month)

Rumor has it Jared Sullinger went for 40ish on Perry Jones in the OSU/Baylor silent scrimmage.

we'll just go ahead and make this the "bad things happen, are rumored to have happened, or may happen to baylor" thread.

My rants all but ensure that we will not get curb stomped by our upcoming (much tougher than last year) early season schedule.

If we go the usual route, where we cling to all of our issues until mid January as if they were newborn babies . . . we are going to get bent in November and December.

I asked Bob Chipman if he saw anything he could take advantage of in the upcoming contest.  He smiled and said "a few things."  take that FWIW.

Knight became characteristically animated on Tuesday when a reporter asked about his relationship with Oral Roberts coach Scott Sutton. Sutton and Knight have known each other since childhood, and Knight wanted to convey that what really stinks about scheduling a game against a good friend is that someone has to lose.

He said he’d much rather beat a coach who lies and cheats than one who he respects. He never named names.

The tension between Tech and Baylor reached a head a few years ago when Baylor sent out a recruiting mailer pointing out that Bob Knight had not recruited a McDonald’s All-American but Drew did. Throughout my time covering the Big 12 I have also heard coaches in the league say something seems off about how quickly Drew built up the Baylor basketball team, landing some of the most coveted recruits in the country so soon after the program faced weighty NCAA sanctions.

Never knew about the mailer, always wondered what they meant by "negative recruiting"

Hav's is still carrying a grudge because she likely clowned Flood Zone U. multiple times.

With that said . . . if Baylor gets busted again, and they should, they will likely get as Beems often says, "Hammered by the NCAA".
