I really like those new jerseys, they look good. the red striping around the letters/numbers and on the seams is

It's hard for me to imagine that someone named Selby will be any good. Sounds much more like the name of a bust.

It's the "new" Adidas Revolution 30 uniforms just like all the NBA teams are now using. Adidas is absolute garbage.

why is adidas garbage?

why is adidas garbage?
it's a nazi company that supports gehy u. Also, we are Nike ELITE (possibly Jordan :crossfingers:) in bball. When it comes to bball it goes...school, shoe company, state, conference. Shoe company allegiance can also play a role in recruiting.
As far as personal wardrobe goes, by all the Adidas you want. But, please don't be a brand mixer (ie wearing adidas shoes w/ nike socks and an ua shirt ) especially at a katz hoops event.

Self said a lot of nothing on this recently. Basically, that he is confident the decision is coming soon and that he'll play, but he has no rough ridin' clue what the NCAA will decide. Very diplomatic say nothing crap. Also, he mentioned he is looking for the Morris twins to be the leaders of the team this season which nearly made me spit up coffee all over my computer. If by leaders he means woman beating, ignorant bastards then he's right on.
As for Selby (and other investigations) - Why in the hell is the NCAA investigating these matters, they are the one's getting direct financial benefits from these players being eligible. Conflict of interest, they need an independent investigative team. I nominate Bob Knight, the ghost of John Wooden, and Ralph Nader.

the ncaa doesn't benefit in any direct way from a couple of high profile freshmen being eligible or not.
dumbass.

Correct, Josh Selby is not going to push the bottom line of the NCAA in any direction. But, in the aggregate they do benefit from high caliber players being admitted to universities and wearing the jerseys of NCAA institutions, etc.. If guys like Selby, Beasley, Carmelo, we could name many one and done guys, were funneled to the NBA D-league (for example) the NCAA would be affected.
The point I'm making in the previous post is that if the NCAA gave a damn about recruiting violations they would eliminate this obvious conflict of interest. If the NCAA gave a damn about athletic departments following the rules on the books they would completely change the way they investigate and the "punishments" they dole out.
In reality, the NCAA runs an entertainment industry, but hides behind the guise of amateurism to exploit the athletes that produce all the revenue. The NCAA could give 2 shits about any of their athletes as students no matter what ideological bullshit they spew. It is just all too hypocritical.
Getting back to Selby, why the hell would he not be talking with an agent/friend of the family (or whatever he claims it is)? He'd be an idiot not to. Selby cares nothing about being a student. IMO, guys like that belong in the d-league.
If college athletes (at least those in revenue producing sports) were treated as they should be (as employees not students) the NCAA would be breaking labor laws left and right. Instead, they claim to be dealing with "amateurs" allowing them to skirt all of these labor laws and to present a public image that makes it seem like it genuinely cares about these athletes. They don't - scholarships are not guaranteed.
-
Kobe Belby? Nope.
-
So, what is Selby date on this chicken anyway?
-
Correct, Josh Selby is not going to push the bottom line of the NCAA in any direction...
i don't agree with your thesis. i think most college fans are essentially partisan, and their interest is not terribly effected by the quality of play - just by the relative success of their team(s). to be perfectly honest, i doubt if many fans could even accurately assess the level of play they're observing.
even if my contention regarding quality of play is incorrect, i don't think that losing the handful of players that make an impact as freshmen would lower the overall level of play appreciably.
finally, i'd counter than the ncaa has more to gain in terms of fan interest, by maintaining the appearance to a level recruiting field and the veneer of amateur competition than they might gain through higher quality of play.
empirically, i doubt if ncaa bball tv numbers were down during the "straight-to-the-pros" era compared to either before or after. i'd be interested to see the data though.

I'd agree that even if the NCAA revamped the way big time college sports were organized - say, start paying players, getting rid of minimum age requirements to go pro (this would of course be a policy change at the pro level), and using a more legitimate (independent) arm to investigate violations that includes punitive action that might actually deter some of the cheating - we'd see little change in popularity (although I'd be interested to see any data suggesting this would be the case, as you mentioned). Which makes me even more perplexed as to why some of these measures aren't enacted. There will still be money to be made - similar to my confusion as to why there is no fball playoff as lots of $$ would be made in that situation as well.
There are some provocative ideas for reforming the NCAA in a book titled "Beer and Circus: How Big Time College Sports is Crippling Undergraduate Education" by Murray Sperber who is (I think) a prof at Indiana. Also a chapter by Stanley Eitzen "The Contradicitons of Big Time College Sport" that presents an alternative model. The Sperber book is more about running athletic departments in the context of diminishing funding for higher ed and, IMO, he comes off more as a whiny intellectual rather than a fair evaluator. He does take Wefald to task in several parts of the book. The Eitzen chapter is more reasonable, probably because he admits being an academic that is a huge sports fan so it doesn't become only a holier than thou from the ivory tower rant.

I'd be shocked if he didn't. This will (at worst) turn out to be a suspension for the first 4-6 games I'd guess.
