We had a similar deal for UCLA. Who was not our super bowl. Which was a sell out.

Well, the track kind of keeps you away from the action, in all fairness.

I always felt that way back in high school.  The track kind of acted as a buffer between the players and fans.

I guess Memorial Stadium is really no different from every other like high school stadium.  Except most of them aren't nice enough to put their Trinitrons on file cabinets.

Dude, all someone has to do is pull their truck up by the endzone, put a couch in it, and voila, there you go.

Talked to a friend yesterday.  He had more than one person offering him free tickets to the game on Thursday.  Apparently those KU fans had bought season tickets and had determined it wasn't worth going to the game after all (or pretty much any game from here on out).

Someone initially bought the tickets and then gave them away for free.  The tickets are being redistributed... KU's athletic department isn't giving away free tickets.  Surprised you don't understand that.

so someone bought the tickets with the intention of reselling for a profit, or because they felt like rough ridin' santa himself  by giving away free tickets?

There was a lot no doubt, but looked worse than what it was.  Red sticks out like a sore thumb in a stadium of purple.  10-15% seems right.

IFFF someone bought them, and you have no way of confirming that anyone did.   They bought them for pennies on the dollar.    Kind of sad if that's the case . . . K-State being ku's super bowl and all.

You don't have any way of confirming that KU's athletic department just gave the tickets away for free, either.  Seems a lot more likely to me that someone bought them in quantity and decided to get rid of the ones that they couldn't sell at the last minute.

What do you think is more likely?  That someone bought a whole bunch of tickets and decided to just give them away, or the KU athletic department decided to throw some free, unsold tickets around to try and get some asses in the seats?   I know, right now we can't confirm KU is giving them away any more than you can confirm your theory, but which of those scenarios is the more likely??
Title: Re: Really surprised to hear about the number of tickets available . . .

How many Nebraska fans would you guys say were at the game last Thursday?  10,000 or so?

Even if there were, and there weren't, those seats were sold at $75 a pop.  That doesn't include the countless $5.00 lemonades, $4.00 sodas, and $20.00 trips to the concession stand that they bought.

If that were the case, and 10K Nebraska fans did buy tickets, the estimated revenue from their attendence alone would be roughly $750K dollards and probably at least $50-100K more in parking and concessions.

And that's face value.  If you took scalped values (which the AD doesn't see the margin), it would be way over a million.

In this scenario, Nebraska fans probably made, roughly, an $800K-$1M donation on their way out of Manhattan.  I will venture to guess, since KU is essentially giving tickets away, that KSU fans, who will most definitely exceed 10K fans, won't even come close to dropping that much money.

Therefore, when we overrun your stadium, we do it at a discount.  When NU fans invaded ours, we made them pay for it.

Aren't we required to give NU an allotment?  It's not like a KSU fan pulled a Santa Clause and gave the NEbraska fans, who all sat in the same sections, a bunch of free tickets.

The bottom line is . . . really surprised that the ku football super fans haven't locked down all the tickets.

I now return you to:  Jedi Mind Tricks-with Beems.

Free tickets are free tickets . . . this isn't hard.

The "free" tickets at the beginning of the season are complimentary tickets that are included with the student sports package.

You have to buy a sports package to get the complimentary ticket, though.

Are there more options to get free tickets to ku football games than there are to buy them? Looks that way.

Aren't we required to give NU an allotment?  It's not like a KSU fan pulled a Santa Clause and gave the NEbraska fans, who all sat in the same sections, a bunch of free tickets.

Well, they definitely exceeded their allotment.  My guess is a bunch of them camped out and bought single game tickets or scalped them one way or another.

Regardless, every seat in that stadium was sold out, red or purple.  Someone paid $75 to sit in a seat or on a hill.

For the announced attendance of 51,115, if you take that times $75, KSU made $3,833,625 from gate receipts alone.  That doesn't include parking or concessions.  If I were a betting man, KSU made over $4 million that night, alone.

K-State took 30,000+ fans to ku's stadium back in 2002.  Even now, K-State will still take 8,000+ fans.  There were only about 3,000 ku fans in Manhattan last year.  Pretty crazy the difference between the two fan bases.

Again, really is surprising to see so  many "complimentary" tickets given ku football super fan status.

It probably won't be, either.

A lot of KU fans don't want to see them lose to KSU, and a lot of KSU fans don't want to be there to watch KU win.

Neither side thinks they're going to win, so both fan bases are avoiding a very uncomfortable situation.  Especially since it's on a Thursday night.

This is what happens when both teams get demolished the game preceding this one.

OUTSTANDING!

At work today, all the KU fans at lunch were wondering whether they would lose by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

One of my co-workers, played at ku but went on to Michigan, asked me for 60 points to bet.

Why do they hate their team so much?  Seems like they aren't that bad and definitely doing things the right way.  What's not to be proud of?

College buddy of mine is a social worker in Lawrence.  Just called and told me ku athletics dropped off close to a thousand tickets on the door steps of the local soup kitchens and now they're just blowing around on the streets and the vagrants are using them to start fires in trash cans.  It's pretty cold and windy today.

Stack of sutdent tickets were used to steady a wobbly table at the Filling Station Coffee Shop this morning.  Thanks ku, my americano was not spilled.

Have you tried those crazy looking muffins with bacon on top?  I look at them everyday, get my mind blown, and lose the nerve to order them.

I heard a rumor that thousands of Nebraska fans flooded Old Balls Family Stadium last week.  Also heard that they beat a kid with a stick and left him lying dead in a ditch.
