Isn't Japanese the one where you just replace the L's with an R? If so I am fluent. Check this out:
Herro Pisscrams, how are you? My name is Brock Randers.
Anybody feel free to PM if you need a translation

did you know that both the "l" and "r" sounds are not part of the japanese phonetic alphabet. people who grew up surrounded by nothing but japanese never hear those sounds and loose their ability to distinguish between the two as they are actually two very similar sounds. example- you could say the words "lap" and "rap" or "lip" and "rip" and someone that was raised with nothing but japanese being spoken around them would not be able to tell the difference between the words. they would think that you were just saying the same word twice.

furthermore, did you know that sounds like b/p, g/k, v/f are the exact same sounds produced the exact same way with the only difference being the onset of voicing (amount of time between release of air and vibration of vocal folds)? i mean, wow huh? great thread topic OP.

So...Japanese people are stupid?

So...Japanese people are stupid?
if by stupid you mean that all human brains appear to be prewired in a way that allows neural auditory connections to be formed and shaped during a critical period and which, if not established during that period, cannot be simply overcome by any amount of practice or training, then yes they are stupid.

this thread has gotten way off of its intended course. my family moved to the US from Japan when I was 10 years old and i love my home country of japan.
i thought this video was funny in the way that it portrayed the american pot hippies, that is all. sorry to mod this thread but mods pls don't let topics stray OT like this. tia.

hey, quick question. it's gonna be a hard one, but if someone put a gun to your head and made you pick a favorite affricate...which would you pick? no thinking about it, just a quick "gut decision". i know mine but will hold off as to not have any influence. great thread btw, OP.

So, if I haven't heard a particular sound by this point in my life, I am simply unable to hear it, ever? I hear sounds for the first time all the time. I think I'll stick with my original hypothesis.

On a Radiolab podcast (see awesome podcast thread), they talked about how cultures that speak a language that is driven by tone and pitch leads to more people per capita with "perfect pitch" musically.
