Title: Rodney McGruder.
Post by: kstatefreak42 on October 10, 2010, 01:51:18 AM
will he ever develop into a good half court scorer? Example, like jake, can he create his own shot and drive etc. I just didnt think he was as agressive offensivley as he couldve been last year.  :dunno:

Deni mentioned that everyone on the team had a partner to work out with.  Rodney was his.

You talking about Cartier?  I never thought of him as a spot up shooter.

I think Rodney will prove he can drive and score. No need for him to do it last year with Jake and Denis dominating the ball - he just needed to spot up and score which he did well. His defense also improved as the year went on. Rodney is going to surprise some people this year.

Yep, serious.  Seems like Cartier could create his own shots.  When I think of spot up shooters I think of the dudes that just run to one of the corners and wait for someone to pass them.  Like Reid has been for KU.

Actually the opposite of the truth.  No one on that squad was particularly great at creating shots, except Hoskins and Bill before he went down.  Even Hugging said so.  Cartier's mo was taking set 3's.

Cartier was the definition of spot up shooter.  He was not quick or all that fast.

I must not have been watching the same Cartier.  The dude had average speed, quickness, and ball handling skills.  I don't really remember any dribble penetration.  What he did do exceptionally well was stroke the long ball and open js.  Certainly didn't create his own shots, though.

Before Cartier had the knee injuries he was explosive, but that was very early in his KSU career. When Huggins coached him he was a spot up guy for sure.

i remember seeing CMart do some things before the injury that never happened after like dunking.  but never remember seeing him create off the dribble or anything like that.

i always  thought that cartier martin was great at creating off the dribble off a double screen.  both before knee and after knee.

One non-Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) in this whole thread?  Also-  you guys do know that they were playing baksetball at KSU before Huggins coached there, right?

It would be a minor miracle if McGruber developed into a slasher.  He can barely dribble (God bless his little heart).

Wasn't this supposed to be the best part of his game?

Probably should have settled for "more" explosive. He was never Walker like athletic, but he lost some quickness and jumping ability for sure. Never a creative player with the ball in his hands because his handles were pretty average to below average. My all time Cartier Martin moment remains...

nope.  martin was not the first player in the history of organized bball to lose his athleticism after a high ankle sprain.  didn't lose it when he cut his finger either.

dumbass.
