Title: Fleeced by dirty cop? (BSAC)?
Post by: michigancat on October 05, 2010, 12:23:43 PM
So, I got a speeding ticket in BFE, Louisiana a while back.  72 in a 50.  It was bullshit, an obvious speed trap.  It's on a lot of speed trap websites - basically the guy just targets out-of-staters and clocks them before the speed zone changes.  The ticket didn't have a fine amount, just a court date, so I called him up, got the fine amount and paid it by credit card ($295, seemed pretty goddam high, but whatev).

Then he's like, "OK, now you need to send a letter to this fax number asking not to put this on your record."  WTF is this crap?  Did he get me to pay for a diversion or something?  Just seems like some dirty cop crap.

It's quite obvious he needs to die.

I am not an Internet lawyer, but the closest thing I could find was a schedule for speeding tickets in New Orleans for $241 for 15-20 over the limit. I'm assuming this is a local municipality that probably has court costs jacked up due to said speed trap.

There are speed trap websites?

There are speed trap websites?

There is even an app for your phone.  I have an HTC HD2, and have Trapster on my phone.  Basically everyone reports where they see them and it alerts you when you are approaching one.

Post/pm/e-mail a copy of the ticket and whatever other info you gathered.

This is it...pretty much the same thing happened to me...asked me to get out of the car, didn't ask for insurance or anything.  The ticket looked legit.  I will still scan and share.

In my experience it's best to just take your beatings in LA and try to never return.

crap.  that sheriff should have rung you up for a lot more than $300 and if i were the sheriff then I would have impounded your vehicle and put it  up for auction and sent you packing just like they did Rambo and his rucksack when the Sheriff kicked him out of Hope, Washington.  don't try to eat in my town.

Further evidence that Rusty just rubs everyone the wrong way.  He was probably just gonna give you a warning but you went all Rusty on him and he had to fight the strong urge to beat you with his flashlight until you crap your pants.

My BSA just got a ticket dismissed for me, 18 over . . . cost me just $5 more than court and fines would have been.
