Patriots add RB to roster — 1:21 p.m.
With veteran Fred Taylor dealing with a toe injury, the New England Patriots decided to sign running back Thomas Clayton off their practice squad on Thursday. To make from for Clayton, the Patriots released offensive lineman Quinn Ojinnaka.
Clayton was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth-round of the 2007 draft out of Kansas State. He spent 2007 and most of 2008 on the practice squad before being signed to the active roster for the final two games of 2008. He spent the next season on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL during the preseason. Clayton — who's 5-foot-11 222 pounds — is known in scouting circles for his speed.
