Tuggle high school highlights.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl2gQoSo7Gw (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wl2gQoSo7Gw)

Dude looks pretty smooth.  He's been a gamer at Blinn.  I haven't been able to hyperanalyze track and field stats on this kid yet, but to me, he looks better than Alan Webb.

If we can somehow hold onto Sams, this would be a pretty sick haul.

Why on earth is anyone worried about Sams? He'll be here and he'll get his chance in a couple years, when he's ready.

This is great news.

Or, at least, it's about time.

not according to the stats.  you bit HARD on jtksu's "non-starter" line of bullshit and painted yourself into a corner.  first it was pease who was going to be a much better QB, now it's tuggle.  GMAFB.

From now on, i will compare every QB to carson. Therefore, this is a good pickup. He is better than CCQ.

Sams could be an unstoppable monster in 2 years.

I want them both, but for next year having a better option than cosh or pease is superb.  I'm  :ksu: about this.Plus I think it balances the offense.  We now have serviceable to good players in all skill positions for next year's offense.

I never "bit hard" to anything. In fact, i didnt even know jtksu said it to begin with. I just knew he didnt start. And Yes, IMO i think Pease would be a nice qb NEXT YEAR over SAMS. He's played at the College level, sams wouldnt be able to do much. In the long term aspect, sams would develop into a serviceable QB with some nice running capabilities. Tuggle just committed, and yes he's better than all of them IMO. So no, i will not give you a break you f*cking powerespect. Go post at ksufans.com.

that's rich.  if i was a powerespect, i wouldn't care about sams, i'd be yelling at OB to "put in the white kid".  you also haven't addressed the facts that tuggle has very mediocre passing stats.  (i understand why you have neglected to touch on this).  he should be absolutely tearing up the jucos he's playing against.  i'll say it again: 8 TDs and 7 (seven!) interceptions.  50% completions and 160 YPG passing.  AT THE rough ridin' JUCO LEVEL.  that being said, he's probably still better than klein and lamur.  i'm not so convinced he'll be better offensive weapon than sams or cosh.  sorry.

but, hey, he's a full-time starter.

Actually, four or five years ago they handed out stars to Juco players like they were candy.  Then, they really clamped down on that and seem to under-rate the Juco...Crabby has even talked about this.  Not sure what the situation is now, but last I heard was that it was fairly tough to get a fourth star for Jucos.  :dunno:

Here's the thing to remember about Tuggle....he really IS the type of guy that typically goes to other schools and we are like "Why can't we just get a guy like Tuggle."  Well, we got one.

At no point have I ever said that I don't want Sams on the team or that Sams will never be a good QB for us.  I just really don't see Sams being ready to be a good QB for us next year so I really wanted Tuggle.  Best case scenerio-  Tuggle is good for 2 years and then Sams takes over.  Plus, we'll still have Pease on the roster.  Our QBs are going to be much better hext years, that's for sure.  Oh, and we'll have the Browns, too.  :woot:

He's 2 to play 2. Not that it matters. Redshirted at BC.

Those fake headline things we sometimes do are going to go over real well with Tuggle.  Don't be tempted to do any now, but start thinking about it.

from someone who saw every snap he took in high school.

My son was on the same high school team with Justin. Justin Tuggle is a great young man from a great family and is an exceptional athlete. He never played quarterback until his sophmore year in high school, however he started at QB every game he played from his sophmore year on. Unfortunately, the school he played for was new at the time with few athletes, and pushed, due to its size, into the state's highest classification (5A), and we were forced to into a region that included the strongest teams in one of the strongest states in the country in terms of high school football quality. Therefore, our record (around .500) kept Justin off the radar of many of the country's football powerhouses. He did receive, however, offers from a bunch of schools, including Mississippi State in the SEC and, of course Boston College.

Strengths: As I said, Justin is an incredible athlete. He could be playing college ball at many different positions, including cornerback, safety, linebacker, wide receiver or tailback. He chose quarterback because it is the only position he ever played that he truly loved to play. In fact, he had considered quitting football in high school because he just was not enjoying it, until he started playing QB, and fell in love with the position.

What he brings to a team is an inate abilty to keep a play alive by eluding the rush until he either spots a receiver, or decides to run. In fact, he is more dangerous when a play breaks down than he is in a straight pitch and catch situation. He makes as many, if not more, plays with his feet, than he does with his arm. But don't discout his arm. He is very strong and can throw the ball accurately 50 yards down field with just the flick of his wrist.

Of course, you know the story of his career at Boston College. He was recruited by Coach Jagodinski because he wanted an elusive quarterback who could make plays with his feet, and Justin was the perfect quarterback for that kind of offense. However, Coach Jags got fired during Justin's redshirt year for interviewing with the NY Giants for their head coaching position. He was replaced by Coach Spaziani, who runs a pro-style, straight drop back in the pocket type of offense. At this point, Justin's career as BC quarterback was sealed.

Weaknesses: Justin is not great as a pocket passer. I have never been able to figure this out. He sometimes misses the open receiver simply because he has too much time to think about making the perfect throw. Pressure him, however, and his throw is almost always on the money. This is what sealed his fate at BC.

He also is not a great option quarterback, unless he keeps the ball himself, then good things tend to happen. It just seems he has never been able to get the timing of the pitch down. I have always felt that coaching would cure this ill, however I listened to his first game at Blinn, and on his first option play, the threw the ball behind the pitch man, out of bounds, for a 14 yard loss (on the next play, however, he threw a bomb which hit the receiver in stride for a long TD).

He also tends to be streaky. When he is having a bad game, he has a REALLY bad game. Fortunately, these are pretty rare.

There you have it; the good and the bad of Justin Tuggle as I know it. Like I said, he is a great kid and is a great asset to any school lucky enough to get him. He will win you some games with his feet and arm, but he might lose you one too with the same appendages.

I put this report in a seperate post from the long one on Justin because I thought most of you would like to read about him from someone with first-hand experience in watching his career advance.

Sounds amazing.  Sounds like two diff guys.

1. an elusive runner who can hit a good pass when needed

then

2. a guy who can't pitch on the option, and can't hit receivers when he is well protected

A lot of retards around here like it when a QB plays real bad, but then hits a receiver in stride for a TD.

Gonna fit right in.

That said, our O Line may suck the next two years.  He may receive all the pressure he needs to make him "not think too much".

This is exactly the type of quarterback our fans would complain about not signing.  IMO this is a really good pick up and I'm glad he'll be here in the fall.  Bill's best QB commit since Nick Patton, or Zach Robinson if you count him.

Guys, Tuggle sounds exactly like "Sunshine" from Remember the Titans. Great arm, can't make a pitch to save his life. Sound eerily similar.
How about this as well I noticed Tuggles dreads had blonde tipped highlights.  :surprised: Now we may not have the Rev. to show him the way but we do have the professor.

Agreed on the Sunshine note.

If similar, they guy prolly just needs a hug and racial unity and he will do some things.

You think Tugs will ever ask the lineman to "just let him through."

I am happy with this development.  If Bill can teach Carson the proper reads in an option, he can teach Tuggs.
