Title: The Drive
Post by: DQ12 on September 26, 2010, 11:41:34 AM
So that was pretty fun, huh?  Remember the throwback to the Mcdonald.  Can you say 1997 the Fiesta Bowl TE throwback?  How about that third and four play from the 15?  Look at the tape, it was the exact same play we ran against UCLA late in the game.  It was vintage K-State, and it was beautiful.

Good call.  That freakin' throwback was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

  at the playcall!

The only thing that made it better were the two-dozen "Guess we're not saving that for Nebraska!" posts that immediately followed it.

Or Tejas 02 and Okie State 03. Both were 4th downs as well (maybe 3rd).... and in those instances we didn't have white retards throwing the ball.

It was nice, but it wasn't Beasley vs Washington in San Diego...

It was very fun though.

It reminded me of Freeman's drive against okie state in '07.  Even ended with coffman making the dive into the endzone.

Mentioned that to my bro after the game.

I was at that game. One of the most aggravating losses I can remember.    :bang:

Some great play calls in this thing by Snyder.  And the boot pass to Smith for the first down on 3rd and 3 was really an amazing play by Coffman.  I also love the sideline look of the scoring play, you can really see Coffman's eyes as he makes the reads from the shovel, to bubble, then to run for the score.

In the replay, the first thing I noticed was that he resisted the urge to throw to Smith right away, when he was open but well short of the sticks.

That whole drive felt surreal. Even the throw to Thompson.

The first throw to Thompson off play action was a great throw by Coffman.  Just a tough catch to make laid out like that, but still a great throw where only Thompson could catch it with pretty solid coverage.

Even the ball to Tramaine was put somewhere only the WR could get it. The throwback to McDonald was just in time. Normally CC takes that sack like it's his job and the game is over. In this case, he had perfect timing for when to release it. CC's reads not just on the TD run or the throw to Brod were good. On his rollout 5 yard pass to McDonald you can see him looking toward the sideline with a defender in his face and then looking inside to find his next option right in stride. Even the pitch to DT was perfectly timed.

There really was magic in the air in those 5 minutes. Hopefully that's not the best we see out of Carsy, but not sure how he can do much better.

Quarles didn't quite get his guy to the ground, but if he whiffs on that block, CCQ doesn't score IMO.  The guy was instrumental in both TDs on Saturday.

Yes, that was a key block, even though the guy got off of it.  It gave Coffman just enough of a window to get to the goalline.

I will say Coffman's decision to bounce it on the lead draw on 3rd and 2 was a poor decision.  Had he just stayed with Thomas' lead block he would've gotten the first down easily.  And Coffman should never try to bounce a run to the outside anyway.

not a great throw if your receiver has to make an incredible catch for the completion.  it's good he didn't throw it where the receiver could intercept it i guess.

after that play Carsy was nearly perfect on the the drive  ... so props

It was too a great throw. He put it in a good spot when there wasn't much of a window and the defender had great coverage.

if the coverage was that great then he shouldn't have thrown it.  and if you want to define a great pass as any pass thrown that can't be intercepted and requires an incredible play by the receiver then you are dumbing-down the word 'great'.

hate the cliche - great play by the QB: he threw it in the only place the defender couldn't get it.  well then maybe he shouldn't have made the throw  :dunno:

Was noticing how nice the throwback play design was. The thing that really stood out was that even McDonald was blocking the near side for a minute, and then he allowed the defender to get through, so he could break away for the pass. Bet that guy felt like an idiot afterward. Anyway, really nice play design -- especially against a speed team that can be trapped into over-pursuit.  :lynchmob:

Maybe he shouldn't have made the throw, but CCQ zipped a pass 30 yards through zone coverage and hit Thompson in the hands.

not in the hands / not a great throw
