Selby's name is turing up in the Tenn. investigation of Pearl, and Selby and his family are one of the three families that are being investigated for getting "extra long stays" while visiting Tenn. "Extra benefits."
Tenn is docking Pearl's salary by 1.5 Million ($300K less per year) and preventing him from recruiting on the road for a year....so what the hell must have Pearl REALLY done to warrant such a huge self imposed penalty.
-
It's an interesting question that we will probably never get an answer to. I'm not sure why it would infuriate KU fans.

Well, that's just about KU fans interpreting BITB's coverage of this as some sort of slight against them.

Pearl may have felt pressure from the bidding war with other schools.
But not to worry, the memo about tougher enforcement sent out by the new NCAA pres hasn't reached the NCAA enforcement department yet, it won't for about 3 months, and they'll have to break off from the donuts and coffee long enough to get it, so make it 4 months.

Rumor is that Pearl had Selby and another recruit over to his house for dinner during a no-contact period.

I don't think that is a rumor anymore. They had a picture of it.
-
Pearl's "bump" comes with food.
Self should take notes.

It won't have any impact on Selby's eligibility, though.

Selby would have had to stay the night, would he not? I mean, he doesn't live there, does he?

Recruits aren't liable for a coach's wrongdoing.

So if a coach gave a player a bunch of money then the recruit would be good to go?
-
What if it was a very nice/expensive meal? :ohno:

Do NOT underestimate him.

I understand this argument when it comes to things like answering phone calls during the no-contact period.
However, if you go on "extra visits" or stay "extra long," or get "extra meals" that are paid for by another party who has wants you to attend their institution (whether that be a booster or the coach himself), then you got "extra benefits" and "extra benefits" are the type of things that can impact your amateur status.

It would only have an impact on the player if he were playing for the program that committed the violations.

Props to Beem, he's channeling his anger into fighting hard . . . but sadly, he's becoming the resident ku explainer. Thus, he is now our own Moosehawk.

What program was Deion Sanders affiliated with when he had Dez Bryant over for dinner?

Tennessee announced Friday that Pearl will lose $1.5 million in salary over the next five years and be banned from off-campus recruiting from Sept. 24, 2010, to Sept. 23, 2011, as part of self-imposed penalties. Still, the NCAA has yet to file a notice of allegations against UT. So it's unclear if Pearl or his staff will receive further punishment at a later date.
Selby and Craft would not be facing any NCAA punishment at their new schools for attending a function at Pearl’s house. The coach and UT program, however, could face discipline by the NCAA.

Bryant wouldn't have gotten in trouble for that. He got in trouble for lying.

Did not Shelby's folks say that they could not have broken any rules because they had someone to tell them if it was okay or not, Or something like that. Well guess that dumbass did not know this was not okay. More to come me think.
