I thought this news deserved its own discussion.
@robcassidy22: Word is #KState coaches Brad Underwood and Frank Martin will be in Wichita this wednesday to take in Perry Ellis' open gym session.
So, I don't think we've ever gotten a local recruit KU also wanted. We have landed recruits outside the area that decent programs want.
So why does the staff seemingly give up so easily on guys like Cook and Harrison, yet hopelessly pull out all the stops with a guy like Ellis? Please help me understand. Please.

almost had reid and that rat eyed kid that quit the team, think he went Meige
-
When he commits to ku will we ask for transcripts??
-
We are KSTATEO? :dunno:
-

Not directly. Frank will just tip off the media. Duh.
-
Don't think ku can afford Perry after the state Sweet Lew left them in

I hope to God we're talking up our new $20 million dollar practice facility.

never had a chance with cook. never. there's a chance with ellis. even if it's as low as say 10% (i think it's a little higher), why not recruit him? you only have 2 maybe 1 spot to fill barring defections, so it's not like you don't have the time.
not sure what went on with harrison. on the face of it, seemed like a recruit the staff would have had a shot at. but the staff's been pretty good on knowing when they don't have chance and quitting on those players.
-
Hmm, maybe they're just worse recruiters than I think they are. I would have guessed PE is more like 5%, and they could get to like 15% with other elites if they didn't stick their tails between their legs when Marquette or OSU started calling.
-
Have to think we are gathering necessary info to leak to the local media in the event he ends up at another program

yeah, it's hard to know. just have a feeling he is going to end up local. 50:50 with ou if he doesn't go to ku.

Damn . . . sorry I forgot the procedure.
-
Would love to have all five of those stars

Doesn't seem like it's too much of a waste. Local kid doesn't cost us anything to recruit, a little gas money for a 2 hour drive. Probably a weekend they didn't have much going on anyway so they thought hey lets go see what's up with Perry Ellis, see if he can make me a new suit.

IMO Perry is far from a Frank type player. His rep of "high skill level" seems like a nice way of saying "lacks elite athleticism" and his drop in the rankings seems to reflect that. So color me puzzled why a coach who seems to values athleticism over skill would devote the resources. Are there more high major recruits in the 'ta?

unfortunately, we would be blessed to have him

No, I think we should. I think we should also recruit the best high school basketball players outside the state of Kansas, even if Scott Drew offers.

we shouldn't waste our time with players that won't come to ksu, regardless of their location. the fact that he's the best in KS is irrelevant.

well, you have to. there aren't any good hs players that drew doesn't offer. hardly any average ones.
-
our recruiting strategy: act like we're interested and offer the high level kansas 'cruits just so we don't get the rep that we "don't care" about kansas kids, that way we can pick up the in-state scraps with little to no work and go after high-level guys in other places :dunno:

i guess the bmw ku recruiting thread got unpinned. so, i'll put this here. nice quote re. paige to go with turner committing to ua. prolly nothing would be better for kstate's chances at ellis than ku taking a couple of elite big wings or stepout 4s in 2011.
Really nothing has rattled him. It is kind of the epitome of his game. Stuff doesn’t get to him. I figured if Kansas squeezed him, I didn’t know what he would do. After today, I don’t think they can get an answer out of him.
