Title: KBOR Meeting Agenda 9/15-9/16 Capital Improvement Projects:
Post by: sonofdaxjones on September 14, 2010, 10:45:55 AM
-Kansas State University requests approval to modify its FY 2011 and FY 2012 Capital
Improvements Plans. Snyder Family Stadium Improvements, a $50 million project funded by bonds
to be repaid by Athletic revenues, is part of K-State’s FY 2012 Capital Improvement Plan. The
program statement, currently being finalized, includes a timeline that calls for construction to begin
immediately following the 2011 football season so design needs to start soon
. K-State plans to use
the Kansas Board of Regents State Educational Institution Project Delivery Construction
Procurement Act Procedures for this project. An architect will be selected this fall so design can be
completed by next summer.

The article made is sound like $50M are to be spent on BSFS. Surely that really should be BB practice facility mainly and a little to BSFS, right? And are we really spending that much? I thought it was going to be ~$20M for the practice and then a little extra for football.

I hear the BTF (Basketball Training Facility) will be paid for with private funds . . . so yes, all $50 million (and maybe more) on BSFS.

Currie said when he was hired.   Private funds for non revenue generating projects . . . bonds if needed for revenue generating projects.

So I assume the $50M will be for a new press box/suites/ and possibly additional seating?

There has to be at least suites added to the box if it's a loan and revenue generating like dax implied.

Despite the tough economic times, there is still supposedly a waiting list for suites.   There has been for a long time.   Timid Timmy Weiser was afraid of the project, and when he even discussed it he wanted to do absurd things on the cheap like outdoor loge boxes.    The people on the waiting list, want suites, like the ones we already have, if not better, not outdoor half ass loge boxes.

Pole dance emporium = revenue generating.  I'm on board with that.

Don't worry.

If the architect is worth two shits, it'll find a way to integrate the current architectural detail (ala metal bleachers, beige stuco, chainlink fence, cinderblock) into the new design.  Perhaps the metal bleachers could be affixed a stack of cinderblocks above the south endzone.   :dunno:

yeah they'll probably upgrade the bathrooms, pour some reinforcing concrete beams, maybe some marble counter tops for the concession stands, new handicap seating (almost a given after currie's glad handing of the the 'dicaps at the last game) and other "infrastructure" crap that will lay a solid foundation for improvements 25 years down the line when we have an AD who's afraid to spend money

SERIOUS THOUGHT

If they have to build bathrooms up above, does this mean that they're going to have to enclose the East Side?  There will have to be infrastructure built for plumbing, electrical, etc.  I'm wondering if they'll end up doing something to enclose that side of the stadium to make it nicer looking as well?  Maybe make it match the Virginia Tech style press box we'll be building on the West side?   :crossfingers:
