The "School Basics" page is interesting. I never realized that K-State rejects 44% of all applicants.

Can I be denied admission?
Yes. K-State may deny admission if your academic work does not meet the Qualified Admissions requirements. In addition, you will be denied admission if you are currently incarcerated. K-State reserves the right to deny admission on an individual case basis.

I think the acceptance rate is more like 83%

This is more in line with what I was expecting. Either a ton of dumbasses who have no business applying to any 4 year college are trying to get into K-State or Kirk Schultz is lying his ass off to Newsweek. Hopefully, it's the latter.

I'm waiting for the Omaha Herald to release a similar piece about UNL's ranking. UNL is no more selective than K-State. That's for sure. Just more reason to put zero stock in rankings like this. What an awful article.

I thought "public" universities were created to serve the "public?"   :dunno:

We would be more "desirable" if we only served the top half of the "public" that applies?  Bizarre logic.  This ranking was probably created by an idiot from one of the elitist Big 10 schools like Michigan.

K-State should just take a cue from this and continue to lie their ass off to any publication that asks. They also never should have come out and admitted the truth.

Next year we should tell Newsweek that our average student scored a 30 on the ACT, that the high temperature in August is 85, and that the low in January is 60. 93% of all accepted students chose to enroll, but only 42% of applicants got accepted.

Yeah, I've never seen rankings that take into account job placement rate, average starting salary, or where applicable, standardized test scores (FE, GRE, etc.). It seems to me that these should be important factors in determining a school.

They don't even consider the number of Truman, Rhodes, and Goldwater scholars

the good students at KSU (the 10% that do score 30+ on the ACT...there are a ton of them here) have their degree looked down upon simply because KSU accepts EVERYONE. Meanwhile, private schools look amazing because they are so exclusive.

private schools = free market theory at work.

yet students at KSU vote republican.

Toss out the freshman that the KBOR forces K-State to take, and the average ACT score for incoming Freshman at K-State which is already nearly 25, probably goes to 26.   Which is pretty strong for a land grant public university.

Next year, K-State should just have another misunderstanding with Newsweek and give them the average ACT score of people who actually graduate.
