Post by: CNS on September 07, 2010, 02:44:10 PM
Favorite thing to cook of all time.

Shrimp, Crab, & Andouille sausage.

Delicious.   :lick:

Thoughts?

Made a huge pot yesterday.  Currently in the freezer getting ready to be awesome at a future date.

Pretty standard gumbo ingredient.  If you can't stand the gumbo, I guess you can thicken it with just file.    :barf:

I use okra, but I cook it down like crazy.  The end product has no visible okra in it.

it's delicious, harder than Red Beans and Rice.  The roux takes a long time of boring-ass stirring to get right.

As long as you don't get tough shrimp, the stuff here in KC works just fine.

Price Chopper has surprisingly OK andouille.

Ya McGonigles has some shrimp I love but they run $15 a pound.  I've not come across any andouille in KC that resembles anything you'd find in Nola.

I know I shouldn't like okra, but I absolutely love fried okra. The secret is to dip it in cocktail sauce.

I just use the Zataran's mix and I still find it to be really enjoyable to eat.

Trim watch in amazement Saturday night as I nearly orgasm'd eating Hibachi Hut gumbo....but he could have been looking that way because he was rough ridin' hammered.  Either way, he was looking that way.

You dudes make your own that is not from a mix?  Very impressive, if so.

Henhouse had a sale this weekend on shrimp for 6.99/lb.  Were smaller but were de-veined and split down the back which made peeling easy.  Had a boil using Zataran's spice, potatoes. corn on the cob and sausage.  Was  :lick: :lick:

There's a saying about gumbo, something about you can add anything that swims, flies, crawls, hops, or slithers.  Something like that anyway.  Basically, anything goes.

I used to bang a chick that worked at Texas Star.  Loved when she would bring home food from there all the time and I would be all drunk and eat it in like 4 minutes.

Tell him to keep the fish out of the gumbo.

Then tell him I said "your welcome".
