Title: Stats from the game to think about
Post by: CHONGS on September 05, 2010, 10:03:00 PM
Last year
Off Eff = 25.28 (I have a better formula now so it looks a bit different than before.  This is now points scored per 75 offensive possessions)
Def Eff = 27.69
Ratio (DE/OE) = 1.07 (This is a mediocre team with a predicted record of ~.500)

So far this year
Off Eff = 32.75
Def Deff = 26.19
Ratio = 0.80 (this is a 7-8 win team!)

So, what we needed to happen has happened.  Bill, Carson, and Daniel have improved the efficiency of the offense by 30%! The defense is slightly improved, but the improvement in offense is exciting :ksu:

I do.  Good catch (sorry I still have a lot of the bball stat machinery in my mind!)

I'll be interested to see how this shakes out as the season progresses.  I'm guessing we will see a spike after the MSU game, then a level off.  What are your goals for Off eff/Def eff this year Chingon?

Do you think we can keep up the current trend?

If we can keep the DE/OE to 0.8 and under that would be fantastic.  Can we keep it? :dunno:  The defense still looked shaky to me yesterday and concerns me far more than our offense.

Definitely, we were very fortunate that UCLA couldn't complete a pass all game or we would have been toast.  Also, their pistol was churning up yards against our D.  There were two drives midway through the game where they were just cruising down the field and we were lucky that they managed to stub their own tow before getting in scoring range.

Let's not forget that the only time OBz would call a time out was when we were marching down the field and their D was on their toes. Can't call one when the situation is reversed.  :curse:
