Re: The OFFICIAL KU vs. NDSU Gamethread.. A New Era Dawns Post Rating (2 votes)
So this is the best that Perkins could find for $2million/yr (5th highest paid FB coach in Big12) - damn well prepared and well coached squad, wouldn't you say?

When several big time coaches were basically asking for the job, Gill is the minority hire specifically selected by Perkins in order to get himself in the good graces of our minority Chancellor just precisely at the same time the multi-felony/multi-million dollar ticket scandal he had presided over was going to hit the newspapers.

And It worked for him like a charm.  Not only did Grey-Little not fire him she went before the Regents and defended that fat f__k to the limit, and then to top it all off she allowed him to stay another year and let him write his on golden parachute "retirement " package.

Lew Perkins will be long gone and working at another high dollar job and drawing full retirement benefits from KU while we're stuck with this guy for another 3-4 years!

A new coach who doesn't seem to be as prepared as he should have been.

Offensive and Defensive coordinators who seemed to be at the same level.

Quarterbacks who looked okay at times, but largely were unimpressive.

Two critical fumbles and an even worse interception.

Two missed field goals by a veteran kicker.

Playing a school that actually has an excellent football history (think "trap" game).

This game is on the level of the SMU debacle but I've actually seen worse.  The loss of Reesing, Meier and Briscoe obviously left an enormous hole in the offense.

Gill has a mountain in front of him.  Last year was a nightmare and I'd hoped for a .500% season.   I'm pessimistic at this point.

What I love the most about this is that Gill is a nice guy therefore he will have what I like to call the "Woolridge effect."  This should keep him employed for an extra few years, on top of that there is always a huge outcry when a black coach gets fired as well.  YES!!!  That should buy them a good six years with this worthless feces.

There's a difference.

I won't say anything about ku because it happens.  But I always laugh at the "so and so looked mediocre" . . . yes Missouri and K-State did look mediocre.   Missouri and K-State were playing teams from BCS conferences, with BCS conference athletes, teams with coordinators getting paid more than the entire NDSU coaching staff combined gets paid.

There's a difference.

Anybody heard of Norm Chow over there in Tardville??

It happens?

It doesn't happen all that often (FCS beating a BCS team).

Michigan vs. App State is the only one I can think of.
Jack. St beat Ole Miss today.

1 - NDSU scored 6 points, 3 of which were the direct result of a turnover.  They finished the game with fewer than 170 total yards.  They averaged 2.3 ypc and 12-22 passing.  They did get 10 first downs, so maybe that is why people think the d-line got dominated.  They ran the ball 32 times, so when they had the ball the clock was running and thus they led in time of possession.

2 - All but one player from an offensive line that dominated Nebraska 11 months ago is still on this team.  There is talent in the offensive line corps, but it wasn't used properly tonight.

3 - There were open receivers all night but once Pick lost his confidence he had tunnel vision.  It happens, sadly it happened tonight against a FCS team.

So yes, I say this KU team has more physical talent than last year's K-State team.  You could clearly see it on the field, but neither the execution nor the play calling were there to capitalize.  If the coaching staff pulls that together, as K-State did in 2009, this team can win 4 conference games.

Anyone who didn't see the talent on the field tonight is blinded by the loss.

Maybe one of the best things I've ever seen.  They're trying to find a way to convince themselves that our 6-6 season last year is the new benchmark

I personally witnessed K-State lose to several D1AA teams.    LHC Bill Snyder lost to Northern Iowa.   In 1992 K-State needed to stop an Indiana State PAT and run it back for 2 to win that game.

Of course the major difference is . . . K-State wasn't 3 years removed from the Orange Bowl, and was during part of the period the worst program in the country.

ku has now lost 8 straight games.   It will likely be 9 after next weekend.

In 2 consecutive games, KU has lost to Northern Iowa and NDSU. Amazing.

KU is the Missouri Valley's bitch.

During the post game analysis they said the beakers had over half their total rushing yards (96) on a single play of 51 yards, and if you took that play away -- they averaged just over a yard per carry.  Put that run back in the stats, and they were only 3 yards per carry.

Shouldn't be too hard to get tickets when we go to Low-rents, know what I mean?  Let's take that town over like we used to!

Re: Turner Gill = Ron Prince?
Nice guys generally have teams with no discipline.....Hard ass coaches teams generally have discipline. Its that simple. We are going back to the Terry Allen basement era.

I don't care so much that we lost to NDSU......what shows me that we have an inept coaching staff is the fact they only put up 3 freaking points. 3! That fact, coupled w/ ZERO display of any discipline whatsoever.....tells me we are going Terry Allen for the next three years.....before they have to bring in a hard ass to clean up this debacle up under a new A.D.

Lew went out and hired the male version of Bonnie Hendrickson.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

noticing a fair amount of pining for Mangino and also some Lew bashing...

havent even gotten into the game thread i bet that thing is amazing.

Love their optimism that Gill will only be around 3 years.  The fact that we took a ton of crap for firing Prince after 3 years means that they pretty much have to stick with Gill for 4+ before axing him.

Just another program that KSU is burning to the ground.

That being said . . . if Mark Mangino is on the sidelines, while ku many have struggled a bit with the new personnel at some spots, ku wins a sleeper 27-6.

jallen18ku (9/1/2010 at 5:15 PM) Report Violation you guys have got to be joking. you are an fcs team that went 3-8 last year and lost most of your key players, on the road at an FBS school. you are going to get beat bad. inexperienced FCS teams dont beat FBS teams, especially BCS conference teams. sometimes experienced FCS teams play very well and catch an FBS group off guard, and by the way, APP State was a dominant FCS team, not a 3-8 group. same with Richmond last year. Ive got no ill will against you guys and hope you have a successful season in FCS, but lets get real here kids. This one will be a blowout. I will go 42-7
DJKyRo (9/2/2010 at 12:43 AM) Report Violation Really looking forward to the game! NDSU has a lot to prove this year and Kansas is ripe for an upset! Go Bison!
jallen18ku (9/2/2010 at 11:28 AM) Report Violation wow, just wow. you guys are delusional. KU is not ripe for an upset, and even if they are, it won't come from a 3-8 FCS team from last year that lost most of its key players. you guys don't realize just how good of a coach Turner Gill is. He has these guys in fine form and ready to play. you guys better be ready for a major blowout, because that is what is coming your way.
DJKyRo (9/2/2010 at 5:18 PM) Report Violation If you're banking on a 3-8 record do a little research - half those losses were by less than a touchdown. Turner Gill is 20-30 all-time as a head coach. Speaking of "key players," sounds like Kansas didn't keep a whole heck of a lot either. Any given Saturday, big guy.
jallen18ku (9/2/2010 at 6:02 PM) Report Violation YOU ARENT EVEN IN THE SAME NCAA DIVISION AS US! We return every starter from our offensive line, and TG wsa 20-30 taking over a program that had won 5 games in 4 yrs. when he got there. 3-8 is 3-8, it was against FCS competition. Blowout. Big. I will be the one on here after the game making sure you all know about it.

This stuff never gets old.

The LJW had an article about how NDSU expected to win the game, but one of the opening paragraphs had a line:

"N.D. State — a Football Championship Subdivision school (formerly known as Div. I-AA) — had just knocked off Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A) giant Kansas University, 6-3"

Wow, we have FBS giant right down I-70....how lucky for K-State.

Bison fans, I just wanted to say that KU doesn't represent the rest of the Big 12, nor do their fans represent the entire state of Kansas. KU fans are a small step below Red Sox fans in the braggadocio before a game, and their disconnect with reality during and after the game. K-State fans have to put up with this every freaking year, you only had to put up with it this week.
================== ====
KU is right under the Red Sox fans in the braggadocio? You are an absolute moron. K State fans are some of the biggest two faced people I have ever met in my life. All fans (including KU fans) talk trash, and I personally hate those that do, but if you seriously believe that KU fans are the only ones that brag, or think their #### don't stink, you need to look at your fans.. Some of the biggest trash talkers/morons in the Big XII.

================== =====
The Bison defense is the reason why NDSU is going to possibly win out the MVC. They are returning a lot of their players this year, and KU lost a majority of their players to the draft, thus NDSU was the more experienced team. Also, I give credit to NDSU's coach.. What an incredible coach to have. All in all, best of luck to NDSU the rest of the year, and all teams that have to play them.

I been saying this for years.

Eventually the rest of our fanbase will realize this. KSU has no business being a BCS level school. If Missouri State is a non BCS school in a state with twice the population of Kansas. How in the hell did KSU get admitted into being a BCS level school? I'm not saying without a second BCS school in KS, KU would be an absolute college football power. However,  I believe things would be easier for the KU football program competing in a stadium with a capacity of 70k, as the lone BCS school in a sparsely populated state. ( think Arkansas) What I'm saying is, The population in KS is small for one BCS school, let alone two.

Without KSU,  I believe instate recruiting and support would be to KU what it is to a school like Arkansas with a similiar state population to KS. Everybody in Arkansas gets behind the Razorbacks and most instate recruits want to play there. They play in a 70k stadium, not 50k like KU. KU football doesn't have that kind of impact in Kansas, because people have another BCS school to cheer for. I long for the day when KU becomes the lone BCS school in KS, like they already should be. It would make a big difference for KU football instate recruiting. We may not get every top instate recruit, but atleast we're not having to split it up with another instate BCS school.
