LAWRENCE, Kan. - The retiring police chief in Lawrence begins work next month as director of security for the University of Kansas athletics department.
Ron Olin, who retires Sept. 1, will work under Kansas Athletic Director Lew Perkins as head of security for the university's athletic department.
The Lawrence Journal World reports that in the newly created position, Olin's duties will include evaluating a wide range of internal controls, policies and procedures and suggesting improvements.
Jim Marchiony, a Kansas associate athletics director, said Perkins had been talking to Olin about a possible position for about two years.
Olin has been Lawrence's police chief since December 1987. He'll make $115,000 a year in his new position, slightly more than his city salary of $112,863

Considering the criminal elements on the men's sports teams at university of Kansas, pretty good move to hire a former cop.  $120k seems a little high but Lew doesn't scrimp when it's ku's borrowed money.

You can't put a price on an inside connection for getting arrest reports of ku athletes vetted at the athletic dept. before the DA's office.

Don't go and diss one of the truly elite athletic programs in the country, with all that money they have and all.
