More like cone of suck-ass journalism! Kind of amazing that so many people buy into this way overblown urban legend/myth.

It's a great day ... no, make that a great week! ... to be a Wildcat!
The cone of silence is deafening, isn't it? As someone else pointed out, you might wonder whether there really is a football team. In over 40 years of following K-State, I cannot remember another preseason that matches this one for the absolute silence that pervades Vanier.
The silence makes some fans uncomfortable, some angry and some just plain exasperated, but - and I mean this - it makes me smile. It tells me some things - Coach has his young men 'bought in' to his philosophy, there are no distractions, no glory-seekers. 'Optimized intensity' might be a good term for that state Coach also seeks and may finally have instilled.
Yep. It makes me smile. It should make opponents nervous.
If you're planning a K-State football/holiday weekend, you might want to think about adding a few stops to your trip home to Manhattan. On both Thursday and Friday nights, Purple Power Play on Poyntz, a very nice family event, reappears for its 22nd annual celebration. On Friday, the 13th annual Bob Regier Golf Tournament tees off with a shotgun start at 11. Friday also marks the start of the Varney's K-State Invitational tips off with the volleyball squad hosting Loyola Marymount at 12:30, Oral Roberts at 7:30 and then, Saturday, Georgia Tech at 7:00, all in Ahearn. Over at the Beach Museum, four special exhibits might lure some for a more-sedate break before the game, while those arriving Thursday or Friday might want to treat themselves to the delicious ice cream over at Call Hall. If you have younger Wildcats in your party, the K-State Insect Zoo always elicits squeals of delight.
Whenever your come home this week and whatever you do, take a moment to celebrate all that K-State has meant to you and the promise it holds for this and future generations. Our Kansas State University is a very special place.
Remember ... Make K-State Proud of You Today!
Later...

So many of them think it's still 1997.

It's easier to appear silent when nobody gives a crap what you have to say.

Just something else to make him sick and tired.

The way journalism works is you always take three months off for summer vacation. Always. It's like the first thing they teach you.

Having to pull yourself away from the bar and go over to the KMAN studios every Monday evening can be a real chore . . . that 3 months is needed for rest and relaxation, recharge the old batteries.

Summertime is for naps. Lots of them. They even come before the biggest news stories to affect K-State in decades. Doctor's orders.

Nothing can make a publication that claims to be "The Source" of K-State athletic information more sick and tired than a story that could alter the course of K-State athletics and the university forever. Best to just saddle up at So Long and ride it out there, avoiding the issue altogether or simply regurgitating what another source says.

do u guys think kstates sports is an autoimmune disease and it's making fitz sick? has anyone heard of this? that'd be sad if true. it'd be like a professional horse jockey becoming allergic to horses or something.

The only things Fitz is allergic to is hard work and exercise.

Fitz is more of a tv personality now. FWIW.

Former OSU fball coach Pat Jones was talking on his radio show yesterday about the eerie silence from Manhattan and how that usually means that Old Ballz has a few tricks up his sleeve/players that are exceeding expectations.
I think it's BS, but at least we have that going for us. :ksu:

909 is good for at least two fitz stalking threads a week over here.
-
They act like they're trying to break rough ridin' Watergate over there. Not that I give a crap about much else besides recruiting stuff, but it's incredible how fast they all buy that cone of silence business every year.

That's a conservative estimate, Mister!
