Was striking within a mile or so while I was bbs'ing earlier but just struck within prob 50-100 ft. of my place 15 min ago. Have never been THAT close to a strike. Noise was deafening, light was intense, all electrical appliances blanked out momentarily. But everything works. My chest hurts, I didn't get shocked but definitely 'felt' it. Net was down for a few minutes (panic set in) but back up now, albeit really slow. :runaway:
Anyone else have an intimate experience with millions of volts of electricity from the sky? :ohno:

Might check things really close. I bet you now have some uber cool super powers.

Was on top of the mountain where Carlsbad Caverns is in New Mexico and had one bomb us pretty close. Was super :runaway:
It hit probably 25 yards from us. We were outside the building at the cave entrance. It was raining like crazy. A young couple came sprinting across the parking lot, so our eyes were focused in that direction when it hit. Our ears were ringing for several hours after that.

I was super close to multiple strikes in the same place. Ended up being aliens and I had to kill Nuke Laloosh in his basement. All I'm saying is you should head to Boston asap.

Had a dream/sighting about this during the .00001 seconds of the strike, thanks for the verification.
The only damage I can deduce at this time is that it threw the breaker for my microwave and somehow jacked my garage door opener. Have tried to reset it but to no avail. Still has juice running to it and will receive signals but won't do anything. That and my schlong is now as tiny as Delaware. :jerk:

I was standing outside on my deck 2 years ago when my neighbors tree (about 40 feet away) was hit. It knocked me off of my feet.

When I was a little kid I was sitting on a picnic table at the lake when lightning struck a tree right next to the table and knocked me onto the ground. The tree split up one side and was on fire. Pretty awesome.

mine hit a squirrel next and blew those little frackers all over my yard.

You should have made a baseball bat out of the wood and then became one of the best hitter in all baseball history.

Was walking next to a power pole when all my hair stood straight up, then heard a bzzzz w/ snapping sounds, then ka-bam it nailed the transformer on the pole. Have since learned that I was on the lightnings list of very encouraging things to hit.

Had it strike about 30 ft away from me across the street from my house as I was on the front porch. I pooped a little.

Lightning struck the 80 ft Norway Spruce in my front yard on Saturday night, then jumped to my house blowing up my entire chimney and erupted through the walls of our bedroom, showering myself, my wife and our four-week-old son with plaster and sparking fragments of lathe.
Woke up with my ears ringing to a battery-powered-night-light-lit hellscape with no idea what was going on or what to do. Assessed the situation quickly, was fairly certain the shake shingle roof was on fire, evacuated wife and baby, called 911. FD arrived inspected the house, no fire (the "smoke" was actually just plaster dust) but the roof is gouged and covered in brick, all sorts of ceiling and wall damage, and there are multiple widow-makers dangling from the tree.
It was super :sdeek: / :bawl: when I was able to go back upstairs. There was all sorts of debris in my son's crib and a couple of burn marks on his crib sheet and on his swaddle. He's fine. There was a huge singe in the carpet next to my wife's side of the bed and a chunk of metal in the sheets where I was sleeping.
Any tips regarding home-owners insurance claims and tree removal services would be greatly appreciated.
Also, feel free to submit non-baseball-bat ideas for the lumber. I was thinking of a sea plane, but what about whittling out a college basketball coach? THE SPRUCE oscar!!!

I would be telling that story over and over for the rest of my life. Glad you & your family are ok. I would make a table out of that tree.

I'm torn between wondering if this event will lead him to having super powers, of if he already has said powers and caused it .... or if something was trying to kill him before he could grow up and master it.
Here are some pics of the carnage.

This is why the other day when my kids were super scared of the thunder I told them the thing they really should be scared of is the lightning, it's what can kill you or burn your house down, the thunder is just a noise.
