TITLETOWN - A Decade Long Celebration Of The Greatest Achievement In College Athletics History => Kansas State Football => Topic started by: MadCat on August 05, 2010, 02:38:51 PM

The Penguins, who lost most of their top players from last year’s 6-5 squad, were picked to finish seventh in the nine-team MVFC. It was their lowest ranking since they joined the league in 1997 — and a long way from the ’90s, when now-Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel led YSU to four Division I-AA national titles.
“It’s embarrassing to the whole community and embarrassing to Youngstown State,” Wolford, a Kansas State alum who spent the past 16 seasons as a position coach at eight schools, told reporters this week. “It’s disrespect. In some parts of this world we live in, if you disrespect someone, you may lose your life. Right or wrong. I don’t handle disrespect very well. I’m sure my players won’t either.”

HCIW
(not kidding)
-
HCIW
(not kidding)
Should be in the Top 5 on OB's list of replacements.
-
HCIW
(not kidding)
He'll undoubtedly be on the list.
He's a great recruiter, he's coached under Spurrier, Snyder, Leavitt, and he's not even 40. After a few years of cutting his teeth in Youngstown, he's probably be ready for an interview.
Will he be the first choice? Dunno. But if I had a guess, he'll be pretty far up the list.
-
i want to warm this thread back up with along with the discussion of Sean.
YSU just beat Valpo 59-0 after beating Pitt last week. the Wolford train is picking up steam, imho.
-
Maybe Currie would let Bill hire him as DC with a HCIW designation. :dunno:
-
Do want!!

fwiw, they didn't finish 7th this year. they finished 9th.
he's got a losing record at YSU :frown:
-
still want

This guy could end up being the next Turner Gill. I'd rather have him than some proven loser, but let's just see who is available when Bill decides to retire.
-
If Currie is still here to make the hire, he won't get anyone with EMAW background
-
If Currie is still here to make the hire, he won't get anyone with EMAW background
I don't think Currie is going to have any parameters.

well, he's not hiring anyone from the current staff (even though he should consider it). that's a parameter.

The dude he gave $40K to will.

Sorry. When JC conducts a coaching search there are no predetermined parameters. I repeat: NO PREDETERMINED PARAMETERS. That's just the way he rolls.

This is probably true. One thing is for sure, and that is that Currie will be very busy in Dallas. He won't even have time to tell his daughter good bye because he's going to consider every possibility.
-
He'll find the one person about which no one person had anything bad to say.

Wolf was my position coach for a brief period of time, what's been said about him is correct. He's bright, high energy and can recruit. I really liked the guy and would love to see him on the sidelines at KSU someday--he'll get his DI shot, no doubt.

He coached at Illinois under Zook when Zook had his best season (9-4) in 2007. The first season he was gone we went 3-9. :surprised:

Watch these guys go beat NDSU.
-
We'd be stupid not to consider him at all.
Mangino is on his staff. If we're lucky, maybe he'll come as OC.
-
after spending time around him in MHK, it's hard for me to believe that eric wolford can be successful at anything.

people would've said the same things about a young limestone or young rick daris, fwiw. but just look at us now... global moderators for the second most popular kansas state university sports bbs in the entire world!

point taken. hey eric wolford, get your cabbage patch cauliflowered head to MHK on the ASAP, son!!

Don't care if the data backs it up, BCS coordinator is always going to be > Lower Tier HC for me.

I would definitely take him over whatever retread loser that John Currie is probably going to hire. He's learned from some of the best coaches in America, he's recruiting his ass off, and he's winning games.
-
You guys want to hire another Prince? What makes this guy qualified up to this point?
-

I'm not sure I'd hire Wofford, and I'm not sure of his binder situation, but he does have head coaching experience. He would be more qualified than Prince. But Prince did coach D'Brick.

Yeah, more qualified. Sad to say, but in 2006 when we hired Prince, Wolford arguably would have been a more experinced hire at that time. Wolford had more years of D-IA coaching experience under his belt than Prince: In 2006 Prince had 5 years experience in D-IA/3 as coordinator -- while Wolford already had 9 years experience in D-IA/0 as coordinator, and was at Arizona at the time. NOW in 2013, Wolford has an additional four years as an assistant at top FBS schools and four years as head coach, where he has posted an improved record every year (7-1 currently in 2013).
Is Wolford ready for KSU now? Maybe, maybe not.
Was Prince the most infuriatingly insipid hire ever by any athletic department? Probably so.
-
Would hiring RP back now be a smarter move, since now he has NCAA D1 head coaching experience?
-
Would hiring RP back now be a smarter move, since now he has NCAA D1 head coaching experience?
Well, he's a proven idiot, so no. But I'd suppose Prince might still be a bit better at coaching in 2013 than he was in 2006.
-
Well, rhetorical question tho.
-
hiring prince back would be so great. then we can him again in three years and hire back snyder for a third time. like they're tag team partners. snyder just caught a couple of elbows and a back slam and barely makes it to the ropes to tag in prince. prince comes in all crazy with the prince stuff and the crowd goes wild but he eventually gets drop kicked and ddt'd and meanwhile snyder is over in the corner clapping his hands and pacing up and down just waiting to get back into the squared circle.
-
symbiotic coaching relationship

Pretty spot on analogy, rd.
-
we currently have a 74 year old version of ron prince coaching our team. i find it odd that no one has made the connection.

:nono: Nope. Prince was fun to watch, not so much his teams. Snyder not fun to watch, more fun to watch his teams.

symbiotic coaching relationship
Woah! My mind is blown. Snyder & Prince = the yin and yang of college football coaching. :surprised:
Seriously though, about the future, we should all chip in on some really nice Hire Eric Wolford banners.

Those Prince teams were very fun to watch. GMAFB. Freeman to Jordy. Lamark Brown at running back. Logan Dold at running back.

My standards are vulgar, I like watching the Wildcats win.

Would take a Wolf, with Mangino combo as our next HC/OC combo in a heart beat

We should write up the contract and send it to Currie, maybe get a hot girl to put on some lipstick and give the ole contract a smooch and spray some perfume on it or something for good measure.
-
I'm telling you guys, the OC from Florida State. We NEED him.

Does he do things The Right Way? Famous Jameis seems like a real hot dog who needs a review in sportsmanship if you ask this olde fella. :don'tcare:

Isn't Jimbo the OC? Not sure we're getting him...

Dammit, I was thinking of James Coley who I didn't realize went to Miami this season.

I am not willing to look elsewhere until we are told no by Tressel(sp).

Would he follow in the footsteps of Snyder? I think he'd say "no."

I think tressel would come in a heart beat.

Bills success rolled into tressel's cheating would be ideal imo

Bo Pelini is replacing him at YSU
