Yesterday, I stopped into one of my favorite restaurants that I never seem to remember to go to — Zaytun, a delicious “IndoPak bistro” at 2020 N. Woodlawn, and as always, I had an interesting chat with owner Syed Quettawaala.

Will be going there asap.  In laws don't like ethnic food so I'll have to be sneaky.

Perhaps WichitaPizzaCat can make arrangements for us and Wichita Pak'rs to have the finest table in the house for an AvivoPak.  Also, there's a series of sculptures that have been installed throughout downtown and Old Town which should make for good things to :combofan: in front of should the other pak'rs be boring us with whatever they're talking about.

Knollas.

I've still never been there and now I don't know where to go if I wanted to.  I think a few of them were franchised or something and there was a dispute and now those have been re-named.  So I don't know if the knollas I'd always hear about is something else now or what.

I've been there once, it was solid, had the pizza con olive.  Didn't like ordering/paying first.  Pizza is different from Knollas, hard to compare.

Dined at WichitaPizzaCat's Avivo last night for wine Wednesday.  Was amazing.  I had the Johnny Wichita Avivo Deluxe as did JWBro.  JWWife had the regular Johnny Wichita Avivo pizza.

Also, SD if you are coming in the 14th I have a great surprise for everyone involved.  Great possibilities of a epic pak of mass proportions and atypical setting.

I've only been there twice and once was lunch.  I was superpak'd when I was there for dinner a few years ago.  Was there with the family of the company I'd just started with.  When the owner's husband heard that I drank keystone, he arranged for one of the waiters to go get us a 30-pak.  Within a few minutes, we had the box sitting there on our fancy table.  I think it was pretty good even aside from all that.

The 14th is my wife's birthday will be taking her to Dave Matthews that night, any Old Town activities would work out well for us.

BTW Avivo is better than il vicino IMO.  il tries too hard, love the panini's at avivo too.

Knollas blows, their 13th & West locale is very close to my office.  They gave us cold pizza once, never again.

Yia-Yia's as reported isn't bad at all.

Went to pickup my tix this afternoon, if you plan on going there aren't many seats left.  Just the section next to the stage, some GA SROs on the floor, and some in the upper deck far from the stage.

Use Marriott points to stay at the Courtyard in Old Town.  If you can't, probably just go ahead and spend the money to stay there.  Everyone I know stays there when here and has no complaints.

You could look at the "Hotel in Old Town" to see if there's a deal.  Don't think they're affiliated with any points-based chain though.

Hyatt and Holiday Inn downtown aren't too far from stuff.

Hamptons are all in the middle of nowhere.

I bussed tables there when I was in high school. The food's pretty good.

Also, a couple years ago two teachers from one of the Wichita private schools--Independent, I think--were fired after a cell phone video of them boning in the Yia Yia's bathroom was posted online. So the restaurant has that going for it.

The wife and I will be kickin it around Old Town all night. After the concert we are thinking about going to a wine bar we saw tonight but had not previously seen.  Some place called Mike's Wine Dive.  It is at NW corner of Douglas & Oliver.  Looked trendy, any of you dudes familiar with this place?  If it's worth the trip we'll check it out after DMB, if not we'll stick to OT.  Maybe a chance to meet the wives of Gooch & JW?

Mike's Wine Dive.

I haven't been.  Have heard mixed reviews.  Eagle reviewed it recently: http://www.kansas.com/2010/07/23/1415776/wine-dive-pleasant-surprise.html

Hit that some other night when you won't have to drive away from a madhouse and back into it after a little bit.  You can park for the concert in my spot if you want.

JW gets first crack at sketching out pak plans for that day.

It's a bit busy/loud still, but a nice addition to the area.  jt - is Vin Zant any relation to the ones who run the pool service company in College Hill?
