Title: Midsummer golfing update thread.
Post by: slimz on July 29, 2010, 08:49:08 PM
Anybody been hitting the links much this summer?

_FAN and I played Lake Shawnee last month. All that golfing during K-State games has really payed off for _FAN...guy's got skillz.  :gocho:

I've been playing some sunrise rounds before work.  Nice to be one of the first around the course.  Can get through in ~2.5 hours.  Been using Painted Hills a lot to lower my handicap.

Still waiting on the goEMAW tournament...maybe to benefit Trim's BBBS?

Used to be the first on the tee every day during the summer.

Miss those days

Memorial? I've heard it's a nice course. Haven't played it yet. There are like 3 different courses in Swope Park. Decent little 9-hole at Heart of America Golf Academy that I've played...really well maintained, but the fairways are frackin narrow.

I need to get over to more of the Missouri courses in general.

On Monday I played Echo Hills here in Wichita.  I picked Echo because I can walk 18 and finish in about 2hrs30min.  Anyway I misjudged the heat/humidity and about stroked out.  Got dizzy and started seeing double on the 9th green.  Took a 20 minute break and rode the back 9.  Shot well, still having side effects 3 days later.  Won't be playing again until September.

I play Painted Hills quite a bit due to price, location, and my mediocre skills (around a 20 handicap  :shy:).  Also played Lake Shawnee in Topeka for the first time 2 weeks ago, was a fun course.

Word on the street is that SuperG golfed his ass off during a trip to lake ppl country.

I haven't had a chance to get out much this year but a friend just announced we will be getting free golf at this place very soon:

Painted's a great place for that handicap neighborhood.   :peek:   Trick is to know when to leave the driver in the bag.

Don't worry about it.  We'll need people to caddy.

Season-wise.  Not schoolyear-wise.

Just played Dub's Dread for the first time yesterday.  That is a pretty tough course.

Little factoid here, Dub was one hell of a golfer, finished second to Ben Hogan (or one of the biggies) like 30 times.   Did you happen to check out the length of that place from the tips?  Something like 8,300 yards.   He also shot under his age in a US Open (might have been senior, don't remember if it was a tour yet).  If you go back, grab my 7 iron, it's in that little pond on a par 3, #3 maybe?  tia

Kicked Swope Memorial's ass this weekend.  Prolly the best I've played in awhile.  Had a lot to do with the course being very straight and the fairways being wide.  Course was also very relaxed but we played at a good pace.  Kind of fun to play at a course that has no housing surrounding it.

When I played golf, Swope was my favorite course in town.  Cheap, fun, not difficult.  Used to see former KC Monarch Buck O'Neil up there a lot.  Interesting hole layout, course is usually in decent shape, etc.

Summer is winding down, so I'm getting my golf in.  63 holes at Wildcat Creek in the last 4 days to get the week started.

We are going to try to get a tee time at Colbert the friday before UCLA MOAP.  If anyone is interested in skipping work to go or in meeting later on for kicking off MOAP a day early let me know.
