Title: Cigars
Post by: steve dave on July 23, 2010, 04:41:00 PM
Kind of starting to like them.  Used to hate them because I don't smoke and most of them that would be given to me were cheap and tasted like dog crap and made me smell like dogshit and made me taste dogshit the next day.  Then, somehow, someone gave me a good one and I realized how awesome they can be.  Any advice?  Recommendos? Etc.?

agreed with the romeo y julieta but the petite dos is a little short for me.

Romeo Y Julieta 1875 Exhibicion #3 is my fav, they used to sell them @ the Capital Grill here in KC before smoking cigars became illegal in bars.

TRUE SD STORY:  One of the cowboys that worked for sddad rolled his own smokes with that stuff.  I was driving his truck to the other side of sddad's ranch or something at the age of about 12 and he had a big pouch of that stuff in the seat.  Anyway, I put a huge pinch of it in my mouth to see if it was awesome or something....it wasn't.

Just smoked a cigar.  No idea but it was dominican.  Was mild not spicy.  Paired it with a super expensive cognac that I have no clue about either.  I spilled some of the cognac and got a stink eye.  Tried to repent with a "hey this is really good cognac."

Worked out pretty well.

Don't really pretend to know about cigars/tobacco but I do know that Acid Cigars are declious. I think they're pretty common; the shitty Street Corner News store in the mall has them. Other cigars I've had that I enjoyed were Cohibas and Macanudos. Everything else I've had has sucked. Agreed that pipe tobacco is way more badass but nobody under the age of 80 seems to smoke it. Typically, I smoke Turkish Royals.

Also why you can't bring them into the country if they have no identifying marks. You have to switch the wrappers. Or accept the fact that most Cuban cigars are mostly marketing since the biggest families and some of the very best rollers fled Cuba when Castro came to power. That doesn't mean there aren't good Cuban cigars out there, they're just not the ones that will show up in the duty free or hotel shops where people buy their cigars when traveling.

Look for pre-embargo Cubans, which are still legal and not really much more expensive. Also, the best cigar in the world today is the Fuente Opus X, the only 100 percent Dominican cigar and it's production is limited to ensure quality. You can find them on the Internet, but can only find them in shops east of the Mississippi.

Start off by saying the brown bag special from cigarsinternational.com is a great deal.  10 random, fine quality cigars at a great price of $20.

Also, becoming a huge fan of 5 Vegas

Also thinking about purchasing a second humidor.

If you begin to smoke cigars on a regular basis (lets say one every week or two), do NOT buy from a local cigar shop.  You can get twice the amount of quality cigars for the same or lower price online.  I bought a 50 capacity humidor and 40 cigars under $140.00 including shipping at cigarsinternational.com.  This goes for most online cigar websites.

There are a few cigar shops in KC that are legit to smoke at.  Thing is you have to buy one there and smoke it.  Can't bring your own (which is understandable).  I think the one on Metcalf and 151st-ish is BYOB.  They provide mixers.

The (west side) Humidor is at 21st and Tyler but it's not a bar.  They do tend to have "private parties" where the have a free keg of beer or something but no liquor by the drink or anything like that.
