Killed four in my house so far this year. Never had a problem before. I'm thinking I should get some traps and bomb the house. Also, time to move the cat back in. Anyone else dealing with these bastards?
-
Those things scare the crap out of me. I smash all spiders. Except the big ones. Those get relocated to my porch lights to eat all those annoying rough ridin' mosquitos, junebugs, and moths that come around at night.
-
I had a fly in my house the other day. It was pissing me off flying around and whatnot.

easy to joke when you don't live in recluse territory sd.

Do we not have them here? True story: I have no idea what one is. Also, I wasn't joking, that fly was pissing me off.

I totally flipped a june bug on his back on the way out the door this morning...just to teach him and his friends a lesson on messing with the 1/64th household. :nono:

Looks like you might be just on the cusp of the range, depending on range expansion.

Was this taken at UNO or UNL? Could be critical for steve dave.

SWEET. So TX has brown recluses along w/tarantulas, fire ants, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, giant centipedes and scorpions. Love this state

 Leave it to a Nebraska entomologist to think a spider is an insect.

Go ahead and add the Black Widow spider to the list. Had a couple that lived in my garage when I domiciled in Flower Mound. Couldn't stand fire ants. At all. Much hate.

Elite reminder, purplewood. I've seen a few as well :eye:

This guys scientific method.
1. Capture brown recluse
2. Put brown recluse in mason jar
3. Introduce other spiders until one kills the brown recluse
LOVE IT

Looks like a brat that was left too long on one side.

only a small # of bites have that type of reaction.

Spiders are gross.

Fighting these bastards has become my favorite spring sport. IMHO sprays do very little to spiders unless it's directly applied, so I use nine raid fumigators (as opposed to foggers) throughout the house and bring the fight to them. This seems to be the best method so far. Worried about lung cancer? Most hardware stores sell glue traps specifically made for the BR.
-
Have been bitten twice by fiddlebacks (brown recluse). As long as you notice the bite early and go to the doctor and get antibiotics, you won't see that type of reaction. The spot turned a little brown and was kinda uncomfortable (bit on the wrist/forearm both times).

I have been bit 3 times (twice in the barn and once in the attic). All you need to do is make a paste from ashes and cover the wound for three days.

Yea, reading this thread makes me paranoid. I killed a lot at my old apartment off Seth Child. I could appreciate the white walls and cream colored carpet. Those little assholes couldn't hide from my flipflops very well. I decorated the walls with smashed spider guts and Nike shoe prints until I moved. Now, Chicats basement laundry room is the only place I've killed some...not near as many as I thought I would. That's good. Chicat keeps the house around 60 degrees all the time. Spiders probably hate that.

this is all wrong. antibiotics only are used for secondary infections that may develop related to the necrosis that occurs from the spider venom. the venom isn't effected by antibiotics.

I live in harmony with spiders.

Those aren't Brown Recluse spiders you've killed, just normal ones. I keep all the brown recluse spiders in the smaller closet off the stairs.

Now I'm not saying that what you are saying doesn't work. But I DO wonder if you ever have anything normal to say, ever.

I think I saw Tannoudji when I was leaving beer goggles (or whatever the one on Kimball/tuttle creek is). He was standing outside on his ancient cell phone by his pickup and was staring at me funny, now I assume its because I had one of _FAN's shirts on. Wouldn't of guessed until I saw a weird paranoid thread on here. He pretty much looks exactly like you would think. Def one of those older dudes that goes to 2A basketball games to root for some team he has no affiliation with and questions all the coaching decisions.

Ha! Watched this movie for the first time tonight. Figured it was the perfect time. Too bad I have already seen twister. Would love to be able to crack that one open after my house is demolished by a tornado.

Bad thing about the glue traps is when you go to replace them and see all the spiders and bugs that were running around your house without you knowing. At that point, you can't even pretend like there weren't any around. You go from blissful ignorance to knowing that you're going to wake up with a hand that looks like the one earlier in the thread. It's only a matter of time.

good job, pete.

Whenever possible I catch spiders on fire and listen to their bodies crackle and pop. Smells like burnt hot dogs.

Reading the Texas A&M article linked in the link was deflating. May need to step it up.

Magnifying glass in bright sunlight?

just wait until your napping on the floor and you see a wolf spider the size of your fist crawl by. The local KSU extension office said it was the biggest wolf spider they had ever seen. the thing survived in a ziplock bag for 2 weeks before it finally died.
small spiders are nothing now.
also spray adhesive and lighters are great fun for spiders. spray them and watch them slowly come to a halt, then light them up

Had a lot of grasshoppers my first few years at my current house.
After year two, started seeing one of these about the size of a softball in my flowers.

Spiders like this and Wolf Spiders dont bother me. It is the ones that make your skin rot off that have my attention.

My parent's have these on their front porch. I used to shoot them with beebee guns when I was little. Anyhoo, I read this thread yesterday before I went home. Then as I'm watching Wheel of Fortune ( :gocho: ) a BR (I think) comes running out from under the couch out into the middle of the floor. My wife obliterates it with a nearby flip flop before I have time to properly identify the species. In my post-mortem examination, which was limited due to the 7-10 flip flop beatings this spider took, I'm 75% sure this was a BR. I'm picking up some glue traps on my way home. Also I had a dream that a BR was on my leg while I was sleeping. :ohno:
-
Friend of mine has pretty bad arachnophobia because he woke up gagging on a huge ass wolf spider running out of his mouth. That and the whole huge spots of skin rotting off bother me about spiders, but unless i think a spider that I see is a BR then I just let it go*.
*Harmless-looking spiders that are located somewhere inconvenient will still fall victim to my wrath.
-
I kill anything that comes into my house uninvited, whether that be spider, fly, or hooker. If they're outside, they're free to live, unless they annoy me, ala mosquitoes.
-
One of these dudes finally got me. Last two days were rough. Only put the pieces together this afternoon that it was likely a recluse bite.
-
Could be meth. Apparently meth users sometimes blame their sores on brown recluse bites.

It hurts my heart that you’d even consider such a possibility.
