EZ mojito
Bacardi limon
Simple syrup
Fresh lime juice
Mint leaves
Soda water
Pour the rum, syrup, lime juice and leaves into a shaker w/ ice and shake vigorously.  (Tear the leaves up a bit right before you add to shaker)
Top off with soda water and pour into glass.
Garnish with lime and some mint leaves.

I left the ratios up to you to tinker around with, no real recipe you have to rigidly follow.

Also, don't even think about a premade mix, never had one that was anywhere near as good as handmade.  And don't substitute tonic for soda water, too bitter.

Chicks dig belinis.  Just add some peach nector or raspberry concentrate, etc to a glass of champagne.  Tastes great so they'll pound 'em and you get to pound her later.

I'm thinking about making stone tonight. Our local organic market if course has a wide selection of ginger beer and it's a hot day by the Bay, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Any recipes/tips/fun facts you'd like to share?
Title: Re: summer cocktails
Post by: pissclams on May 10, 2012, 07:39:25 PM
i have a recipe i love, it includes pyrat rum, maine root ginger beer (it's kinda important that you get a spicy ginger beer and not a sweet one, this only comes from trial and error of different brands).  target brand is good in a pinch.  i use maine root ginger beer, $7 a 4 pack.  cruzan black strap rum is a staple.  a wedge of lime and a couple of diced jalapeno.

that's how i do it.

if you tell me the brands of ginger beer you're dealing with i can tell you which are good, suck, etc.

i don't think it sucks.  if you don't like spicy ginger drinks then you might not like it.  remember y-l-a, taste is very subjective.

yes serious, it's an actual drink that a bartender made for me last winter.

i was asking him for tips and tricks for drinks to use my bottle of st germain in.  i originally bought it because i was mixing it with champagne and something else can't remember.  anyway, stopped that after the bartender made me the hendricks, lemon, champ, st g which is really good.  esp this time of year.

well that's very understandable, rick daris.  because m-deuces are a far inferior cocktail, than the D&S.

I know cilantro is a very contentious subject around here, but...

Blueberry Cilantro Margarita
Sauza blue, elderflower liquer, lime juice, fresh blueberries
& cilantro, up or on the rocks

I'm no marg expert, but they are pretty delicious. I'm sure an actual marg expert would call them at least serviceable.

Lime-a-ritas?  Yeah, we got duped into trying them on Cinco De Mayo.  "Try these, only $2, and it's basically the same as a margarita!"

went camping w/ a guy that works in the liquor supply chain for a grocery store and always gets liquor samples. Tried cucumber vodka (not bad) and coconut vodka (gross) this weekend.

If you enjoy them spicy, I would recommend Zing Zang.  It definitely has a nice kick to it, but it's awesome.  Liquor is already in it (but I like to add a little bit extra since I'm a badass).  If you don't like them spicy, then   :dunno:
