Title: Big 12's Top 25 Players
Post by: Kermit on June 25, 2010, 07:16:15 PM
Where do you guys think DT will end up?

Ranking the Big 12's best: No. 7
June, 25, 2010
By David Ubben
Today is Day 19 of our countdown of the Big 12's 25 best players entering the 2010 season. The full results are locked in a vault in an undisclosed location, but we'll be revealing one player per day until we reach the top of the list.

We're inside the top 10 now, and I kind of expect discussion on this to get pretty heated. I feel pretty good about where I've slotted guys, but we'll see if we need to do a mega-mailbag at the end of all this so I can defend my order. You'll notice the list is intentionally weighted somewhat toward positions that have a greater amount of impact on a large percentage of the field.

Remember, this isn't a list of the top-25 NFL prospects in the league. It's heavily weighted toward players' actual accomplishments in their college careers, as well as their likely impact on their teams in the 2010 season.

No. 7: Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

2009 numbers: Intercepted three passes. Made 34 tackles, including two sacks and 4.5 for tackles for loss.

Most recent ranking: Williams was unranked in the past offseason's ranking of the conference's top 40 players.

Making the case for Williams: Don't worry about Williams' pedestrian numbers. He's the best cover corner in the conference, and though the Big 12 isn't as pass-happy as was last year or the year before, having a guy like him helps any defense look good. Williams is the third member of the Longhorns secondary to make the list, and each player makes the other look good, but Williams is the best out of the group. Last season was his first as starter, but he saved two of his best games for the biggest. He had five tackles and an interception against Nebraska, and made three tackles and broke up two passes against Alabama in the national championship game. His size (6-foot-1, 192 pounds) has caught the eye of NFL scouts, too, and should make him an early first-round pick in the 2011 draft.

The rest of the list:
No. 8: DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma
No. 9: Jared Crick, DT, Nebraska
No. 10: Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor
No. 11: Jeremy Beal, DE, Oklahoma
No. 12: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
No. 13: Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
No. 14: Alexander Robinson, RB, Iowa State
No. 15: Sam Acho, DE, Texas
No. 16: Roy Helu, Jr., RB, Nebraska
No. 17: Curtis Brown, CB, Texas
No. 18: Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri
No. 19: Kendall Hunter, RB, Oklahoma State
No. 20: Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M
No. 21: Tim Barnes, C, Missouri
No. 22: Brian Duncan, LB, Texas Tech
No. 23: Landry Jones, QB, Oklahoma
No. 24: Tanner Hawkinson, OT, Kansas
No. 25: Blake Gideon, S, Texas

Gotta be top 3, if not #1.  No bigtime qb at ut, ou, or ttu, like most years.  If Gabbert's bitch as is ahead of him, I'll be super pissed.

I'm assuming that's the reason they left off all Colorado players!

All the major running backs are already ranked. The only WR I don't see on the list is Broyles from OU. And you'd assume Johnson and Gabbert are the two QB's left on the list. I'd rank Thomas ahead of all three of those players, so he better be in the top-3.

He'll be on the list but like British people, KSU fans just naturally assume the worst.  We practically like bad things happening to us, it's who we are.

No. But it is very unnatural to walk away from any situation  without a KITN as a K-State fan.

I figured he could have been top 10.  I'd probably take him over all QB's right now except for maybe Griffin but i have my doubts about how effective he will be after his knee was jacked up.  I also think the talent is down in the big 12 this year a little compared to last year.

The best QB is Jarrod Johnson.  Look at his stats, athletic ability, and measurements.  It's really not debatable, he was the best QB last season as well*.

Von Miller is their version of Ian Campbell...get all the sacks against garbage competition.  The more i look at this list, UT and OU are going to destroy everyone this year.

Does anyone really even deserve #1 on the list?  It's kind of you are just a little bit better than avg, award?

Bradford played like 3 quarters last season mongoloid.  If he would have played like his frosh season obviously I would have put him at number 1    JJ was the best QB LAST SEASON, imo.

P.S.
Bradford is in the NFL and can't be the best QB THIS season.  Were you surprised when you didn't see Gerald McCoy on the list you f*cking imbecile.

Just because you say it doesn't make it true.  Here's the research dumbf*ck.

Sam
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=188934

JJ
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=191668

FYI, Shipley's Boyfriend
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/profile?playerId=175772

You could debate McCoy v. JJ in 2009, but not Bradford.  There's also no way you can say either he or Bradford should be on the Top 25 list this season (psssst they're in the NFL).

Feel free to get back on topic, loser.  I won't hold my breath waiting for your digital apology.  Question:  what do you drink with your Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) sammich?  My guess would be ovaltine.

OK Cat, you're in over your head as usual, keep fightin' the good fight man!

Not sure why you keep bringing up McCoy, I sure haven't.  And I acknowledged the fact that Bradforf was hurtr much of last year but that change the fact that he is and was a much better QB than JJ is, was, or will ever be.  Also, in between bites of your sandwich, you keep insinuating that I suggested Bradford and McCoy should be on the list, which I never did.  Looks like we got another Ben on our hands here boys.  Too consumed with his desire to be correct that he is forced to throw up a smokescreen and hope no one notices him furiously pulling his lever behind the curtains.

Well let me help you, in numerical order (assuming you can count) (also insults other than "Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) sandwich eater" were omitted).

1) I said JJ was the best QB this year.  I went on to say he was the best last year, unless you thought McCoy was.
2) You called me a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) sandwich eater and said Bradford was the best
3) I said you were a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) sandwich eater because Bradford didn't play last year
4) You called me Bentard
5) I put up stats showing why you were dumb
6) You posted this asinine comment talking about how you didn't know where McCoy fit in, and how Bradford is the awesome'est

The entire time the thread was about the Big 12's top 25 players THIS SEASON

:dunno:  I can keep arguing with you, but this is getting pretty ridiculous, so I'll just ask you:  would you like a tomato on your Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) sammich?

There's a huge difference between speculating that some scrub is going to be a diamond in the rough and pointing out that one of ESPN's two best Big 12 players for 2010 got absolutely lit up in Manhattan, KS last year by one of the worst defensive units in the conference. You can't be full of crap if it actually happened. Johnson really must have dominated against the other scrub teams he played to put up the kind of stat line that he did.

Our defense wasn't one of the worst in the conference, at least not statistically.  I'm not saying it was good, but it wasn't that bad.  Except against OU and TTU, it was that bad those games.

Yeah, well we used our offense to play defense by sitting on the ball. I'm sure if you look at yards allowed per play, they don't look nearly as good as if you look at total yardage allowed. I could be wrong, but I really didn't come away from any games other than Texas A&M last year impressed by our defense.

*edit: I just looked it up, and our defense finished 8th in the Big 12 last year at 5.4 yards allowed per play.

*edit: I just looked it up, and our defense finished 8th in the Big 12 last year at 5.4 yards allowed per play.

pfft.   scoring 62 pts by "sitting on the ball"   are you rough ridin' Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!)? I sure as crap don't remember any onside kicks after multiple touchdowns.

I was more thinking our points allowed/game probably was around the middle of the pack, comference wise.  Also, if you take out the 2 games I mentioned earlier, I would imagine our yards allowed/play would probably drop dramatically.  Regardless, our D wasn't good, but it wasn't as bad as some say it was.

You weren't even allowed in the bitch fight, which basically makes you the autistic kid that creeps in the corner to masturbate.  Keep peckin' away, you'll get this figured out.

Our defense wasn't one of the worst in the conference, at least not statistically.  I'm not saying it was good, but it wasn't that bad.  Except against OU and TTU, it was that bad those games.

Yes, our offense was just awesome last year. We totally lit up the scoreboard on everyone. We also ran a no huddle offense all the time like half the Big 12 did. LHC Bill Snyder made calls that make Mike Leach look like a pussy. It's amazing we ever lost a game considering our ability to hang 62 points on juggernauts like Texas A&M. :flush:

Boy, I sure hope Daniel Thomas gets picked #1 :crossfingers:
