-
Confirmed via KMAN...20 yr old man at 3am this morning...no cause of death given
-
A 20-year-old man who was attending the 15th annual Country Stampede music festival near Manhattan died early Thursday morning, authorities said.
Law enforcement officials were investigating circumstances surrounding the death on Thursday morning.
"We're certainly not making any determination at this time," said Pottawatomie County Sheriff Greg Riat, "but we're not suspecting foul play."
Riat said the man sought out security and Pottawatomie County sheriff's officers around 3 a.m. Thursday at the Stampede campground before he was placed in an ambulance.
The man died while en route to a Manhattan hospital, Riat said.
Additional details, including the man's name, weren't available Thursday morning.
The Country Stampede, an annual event at Tuttle Creek State Park near Manhattan, attracts thousands of spectators. Many spectators camp out during the four-day event, which starts Thursday and concludes on Sunday.
Country acts at this year's event include Darius Rucker, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban and Tracy Lawrence.
Awesome plug.

From the comments section....
All,
We weren't trying to use this story to promote the Country Stampede but to put into context what the event is for our readers who may not be familiar with it.
We apologize if anyone interpreted that effort as a plug for the event.

With news of a second death, do you guys belive Stampede will continue to go on??? Next year will for sure due to schedules and what not, but after that....I have my doubts.

Why the eff would they stop? Because someone randomly rolled an ATV and wasn't wearing a helmet. And another kid had a preexisting blood clot problem and probably passed out and fell too hard on the ground and bled out?
There are better reasons to cancel it, according to this board anyway.
If this starts happening year after year, yeah something will change.

That's what I meant (year after year) I have never seen any of those rangers out there wearing a helmet, you know how different that will look next year when they all have to, and I didn't know about the preexisiting condition w/ the kid......i figured it was that, cuz that was the best weather of the 4 days.

The first year some chick stabbed and killed her husband (maybe just bf) with a screwdriver. If that didn't kill stampede, nothing will. If anything, events like this make things more popular as it adds an element of risk to attendance.

good point, i def don't think it will detour ppl from coming, just did not know what you all would think about radical douches wanting it shut down.

I'd shut it down just because of the smell.

I sure hope other schools' fans don't catch wind of these deaths and use them to make fun of us like we do the bonfire. :ohno:

Yeah, we should find some cop message board and totally give those guys a hard time about not knowing how to follow standard safety procedures while driving ATV's.
Take that TBL!

I was there (yeah, I'm kind of a hick and listen to shitty music) and heard that some dude got stabbed to death. Guess that was just rumor. Friend's roommate got his ear torn to hell when some drunk ass yanked on it while they were trying to get him the hell out of their camp.
Was shocked how many rough ridin' Husker fans were there. Never noticed they rolled so deep to this thing.

I heard a rumor about a guy getting run over while passed out on the road. Figured it wasn't true because i hadn't seen it on the news yet...
There were NUB fans everywhere....jfc. Lots of fights as well.

money talks and a death or two at the stampede should be expected every year. its not going to shut down because of that.

They've always been very proud of their "Go Big Red" chant at Stampede. I wonder if they were chanting "Go Big Ten" this year.

Every 'Go Big Red' chant I heard was countered with a 'eff Big Red' chant (genius, I know) by any non-Husker in the area. Did overhear a Big 12 v. Big 10 argument, but never saw what happened with it.

I was in that procession. Almost two miles long. It was something to behold.
