And so far, it looks like a well-coached experienced team against same-old K-State.
-
not watching but we're for sure losing
-
Manning in for the Juco guy. But doesn't who is in the game, our offense has no flow.
-
Who saw this coming -- I mean besides everybody. Tang getting schooled.
-
Turnovers, that standard of a Tang team, continue.
-
A little life. Can we sustain it?
-
What's going on with the weird bump on the upper lip of the powercat on center court? Did someone lose a bet? Is someone getting a new tattoo?

No way that smarmy $!#* goes 100% for three in the second half.

with Rich in the doghouse i am happy to Mobi likes dunking even if they are not as spectacular
-
Should I have hope?
-
I'm not even going to allow myself to have hope because we do crap like that when we have a chance to put the pressure on.
-
16-4 ft disadvantage.
-
tonight’s rotations seem more effective, dunno
-
That insurance broker making 7 threes on us is ticking me off
-
This is the first game this season that I have had fun watching. And we were down 20 when I tuned in, so I'm glad I didn't just turn it off.
-
This free throw disparity will decide the game.
-
not watching but we're for sure losing
-
Worst last possession plan I have seen in a while. WTF. The whole plan predicated on Hausen’s defender helping on a screen that wasn’t a screen.
That was awful.
-
Annnnd, we didn't get a good shot. Imagine that. We got back going/driving inside and then quit doing it.
-
eff you, Hawkins, you weak MF'er.
-
Max Jones is anti-clutch.
-
Good game, I thought they were going to give up when they were down 20 in the first and they didn't.
-
dogshit game

That end of regulation play call was peak oscar Weber stuff. What happened to the staff calling lobs to seal a win? and the notebook full of sure fire inbound plays?
-
great game. i’ve long given up on the idea that this team is going to the tournament or win a bunch of games, but it was great to see them fight.
they seem to be (slowly) figuring things out
-
Had the game won and gave it away at the foul line and two turnovers for breakout layups late in regulation. And just to underline the problems, the continued to miss free throws in OT and made another TO for layup. JFC.
-
Who knew that my guy N'Guessan would be the only dude who can hit his free throws?

I mean we really lost it when we got down 29-9
-
We had the lead when we made the bad turnovers and missed FTs, so no.

should have had a bigger lead
-
They'd find a way to blow it. More volleyball out front, more bricks at the line.
-
This is gonna be a looooooooooooooong season, my friends.
-
The evening was not a total loss. My other alma mater, UMKC, beat Wichita State by 10 on the road.
Probably the only one on this site to have seen us lose in person to Drake in football (1981) and basketball (tonight)

Whoa, I basically sat right next to Tom last night. :emawkid:

heard "give the money back" multiple times in my section last night. :sdeek:

Hawkins was great last night
yeah, but he missed some free throws so he should give back the money they gave him Rusty.

Hausen is not a good basketball player

Yea he's our stud for sure. Seems like his conditioning has improved quite a bit.
-
Crowd pushed hard in the 2nd half.
Utterly clueless to start the game. Finally figured out that they had to stop two guys - almost got it done.
The 5 out is at times is a complete cluster - at times we're pushed clear out to mid court.
Gassed at the end - the guys the most gassed were the guy(s) on a podcast complaining about conditioning and "just getting a run in at home" earlier this year.
-
Hausen is not a good basketball player
I have LBBIQ, but I think he can be useful. he can get hot and he helps spread the floor out a bit since you can't leave him. I'm not sure he is in the top 5 of our problems, but I could be swayed either way.

Agree about the crowd. They were one D stop from really blowing the doors off. I swear like 3 times they would score and the crowd would get really loud and stand and then they would immediately give up a layup on the other side and everyone would sit down. It was almost hilarious to see people stand up and then immediately sit back down.

Yep, my group (sitting 2 rows behind a large portion of the 1977 Big 8 Championship team, which included a long time P5 high major assistant and high tier mid major head coach) were like an accordion.
Drake responded almost every single time

He is what I feared about Taryn Sides but she's the real deal. Yeah, he can shoot but I'm not sure he can do anything else. He can't get himself open, he can't guard anyone, he can't create. That last play call of regulation would have been a great play call with an actual more rounded offensive threat so it was easier to defend. In retrospect we should have run that ghost screen with Hawkins.
-
Hawkins was great last night
he had a good game, wouldn’t say great
i can’t understand why tang is running the offense through him twenty five feet from the basket. he shouldn’t be touching the ball out there and it’s slowing the team further down from getting into the offense. by the time the ball gets back to the wing, we’re at eighteen/nineteen seconds on the shot clock which then defaults the offense to max jones breaking down his defender or some version of a turnover/low percentage play.
i’d like to see him play iso in the high post or at least within the arc.
what our fans don’t realize is that he’s just as frustrated as they are. it was wild to watch/hear him getting into it with the fans around me last night. DURING THE GAME WHEN THE BALL WAS LIVE. he screamed at one of them that he’d be doing more if his teammates were getting him the ball more. yikes. he’s an emotional player, take the good with the bad. our guy DNG spent more of his time than he should trying to keep him focused last night.
he’s fun to watch and good at basketball.

The final play of regulation coming out of a timeout was a microcosm of this season and team.

That we're light on talent, yeah. Hausen isn't a top 3 option on any high major tournament team. We have the talent of a very good mid major.

This is the scene report I needed
-
The team looked really good from what I saw. They must have looked god awful before I started watching to get down by 20, though. Still, I'm optimistic that they start winning against teams with pulses soon.
-
the first 10 minutes last night were so bad i was searching up the box score of Wooly's Waterloo loss in Municipal to UMKC in 2003 (93-50 w/ 40-22 halftime) so it has been worse.

We have at least 3 guys that can get their own shot and Hausen isn't one of them. Designing a play for him to get a shot at the end was just poor coaching.

Agreed. I think that play should have been run with Dug and Hawkins, or run a play that isos Hawkins on the block or high post.
-
I argued with my brother last month that Hausen ideally was a 15-20 minute per game guy and that his all-around game was enough to justify the 32 minutes a game he was playing (he only played 22 last night). But then the Jones boys were MIA for a number of games and Hausen can be deadly when he gets the right matchup. The problem is as last night and the second half of St. John's proved, he is very guardable by better athletes and he's probably doing to see one every night in conference (except maybe Mayo). For sure, he should not have been on the floor defensively guarding Stirtz on the last play of OT.
Our portal failure was at small forward. We're not going to get a Johnson every year, but a Mark Smith is just what this team desperately needs.
