Hey, Cat Fans.
A friend of mine (Jack) is running across the country. Yes, for real. He's Forrest Gumping it and running 2,835 miles from Los Angeles to New York City, much of which will include him running across Kansas--along a roughly Garden-City-to-Emporia latitude.
This is where goEMAW comes in. I have offered to help my bud find hosts for his run across the great state of Kansas. I would love it if you would either:
-Host Jack! (more info about him here: https://jackrun.mmm.page/home (https://jackrun.mmm.page/home))
-PM and introduce me to someone who may be able to help (friend, family member, church, someone in a running club, etc) who can host Jack or connect me to people who can.
-Connecting us with a business that could offer support (food, gear, respite, a cold beer or two)
Jack is a University of Illinois grad--let's help him out in honor of @MrBread.
Here are the dates Jack will be passing through the Sunflower State:
8/22: Syracuse, KS
8/23: Garden City, KS
8/24: Jetmore, KS (30 miles N of Dodge City)
8/25: Larned, KS (23 miles W of Great Bend)
8/26: Lyons, KS (28 miles NW of Hutchinson)
8/27: Lehigh, KS (24 miles N of Newton or 20 miles W of McPherson)
8/28: Cottonwood Falls, KS (21 miles W of Emporia)
8/29: Waverly, KS (27 miles SW of Ottawa) <--host already found!
[Interlude]
9/3: Block, KS (8 miles SE of Paola or 20 miles S of Spring Hill)
Hosting Jack would typically involve:
-Coordinating with him to pick him up at the end of the day's run
-Driving him back to your home
-Enjoying a meal and (truly incredible) conversation together
-Providing him with a spot to lay his head semi-comfortably (extra bedroom, couch, a haystack in a barn)
-Enjoying an early, early morning breakfast and coffee together
-Driving him back to the previous night's stopping place early the next morning by ~5:45am
Thank you for considering this. Literally any name or information you can pass along would be truly appreciated.
Anyway, go Cats.

Why doesn’t he run to the place he’d be staying at in each town?
-
A/S/L?

A/S/L?
Normal guy. Early 40s. Once ran 320 miles by himself and ended his run at a Phish concert in Denver right as it was starting.

He is running 50 miles per day. When you run that many miles, another 5-15 per day adds a lot of unnecessary mileage.
-
I just looked at his route and saw the exactly 50 miles/day thing. I thought he could run to wherever at whatever pace he wanted and do and see good crap as he went.

No one can run basically two marathons every day. This is absurd

I bet this is like that one old timey Olympics where everyone blatantly cheated during the marathon by taking shortcuts and rat poison.
Jim probably has a buddy following him and when he gets tired after 8 miles he hits the super secret button on his belt then waits for his ride to take him the next 41 miles while they eat McDonald's and sonic and talk about how much easier it is this way.

I had to look it up cause it seemed absurd as well, but apparently the record is 72 miles/day to get from SF to NYC in just over 42 days, so it's possible. Just seems crazy.
-
i’d like to see him do it backwards
-
Does he carry a tent and camp in the desert and mountains when he's not near civilization?

Absolutely not

David Goggins thinks this guy might be going a little too hard
-
Yes, it's very impressive. And crazy.
Let me know if you know anyone in like Larned or Jetmore or whatever.
